In other words--get over yourselves, it's a phone for christ's sake. There's a lot more important things going on in the world than what vibrates in your pocket or sends your "I'm on the couch, contemplating my navel" tweets to your closest 1000 friends on Twitter. Clearly if you had enough things to do in your own lives the least of them would be lamenting your iPhone's cellular reception, and Apple.

Someone needs a nappy. I think it's funny that a person with a holier then thou attitude is telling everyone else to get over themselves. Seriously, you are not that amazing. The best thing to do if you don't like these threads is not read them.

Wow, that was a fresh and innovative retort. Clearly I was right, thanks for the affirmation.

Grow up. There are much more important things to worry about than a cellphone. You people act like it's the end of the world.

It certainly is not the end of the world and there certainly are much more important things to concentrate on, however, when one pays $200.00 to $600.00 for a phone, it is not to much for them to expect the phone to actually work. Too many people let this kind of thing slide, which allows multi-billion dollar companies to simply continue to do the same thing.

The only way to stop companies from selling defective products is to complain, and complain loud and often. The more people who write letters to Apple complaining, return their Iphone 4s, and/or post their complaints on a forum, the more likely Apple will be forced to fix this hardware issue, which is all people want.

Omegaman

I don't get the bitterness and hostility in this thread--if you guys hate the phone (and Apple) so much, just return the thing. It's almost like you have this sick love affair with on-again-off-again girlfriend who won't bend to your every will or emotion. You call yourselves "Apple fans" yet you bash and kick Apple like they're Micro$oft's left nut.

I'd be embarrassed to say I'm a Mac or Apple anything if it meant I was akin to the incessant whining that you people seem to pride yourselves on. This "I need...I want....I deserve" crowd is repugnant, and the iPhone appears to be the lightening rod for this overwhelming abundance of it.

Oh, already returned the iPhone 4? Great! Still need something to lament and grieve about? Take a trip to the Gulf of Mexico and use your "clearly and obviously" defective iPhones to plug the leak. At least it would go to a ever so slightly more selfless cause than sitting in front of your computer, bellyaching over why your bars don't jump when you want them to.

Perhaps something with the calibre of "largest oil spill in recorded human history" is something more noble of despair than your own materialist deluge of dolefulness over a material item. Moreover, if you tire of breathing the oil fumes and they begin to make you sick, take a trip to Haiti, and hang out with the locals....show them your iPhone 4, lament about how the bars aren't moving the way you want them to... I'm sure that you'll have lots in common together.

That was refreshingly articulate. Thank you for your perspective.

Many of the more vocal folks here ARE tremendous Apple fans. You have to liken the response to that of a baseball fan watching their favorite player fall apart on the field. Only difference here is there is no backup in the bullpen and no coach to walk out onto the field and remedy the problem.

We're all paying attention. Hate to burst your bubble, but no one really cares. My phone works perfectly. I have no issues that are any worse than any other previous phone. In fact, I absolutely love my new iPhone. If I didn't, I would return it and be done. The small number of people who are freaking over this are immaterial in the big picture. Your well-written and sincere letter will likely never be read.

The whack jobs looking to sue Apple are clueless. What the hell are they suing for? Where has anyone been hurt or damaged? Apple has agreed to provide refunds for those who are not happy. 5 years from now, when this is finally litigated, what does anyone hope to gain? We'll be on IP 8 by then.

This is a mobile phone people...get a grip.

Very true..

All i have to say is "To each their own." Obviously everyone has a different opinion on the phone. Me personally, I love the phone. I don't and didn't have yellow spots. No proximity sensor issues. I do have the death grip, but i put a bumper on (which i personally like better than the naked phone. It feels more sturdy) and the problem is gone. So as long as my glass doesn't magically shatter or scratch like some people have reported, then i will continue to love this phone.

But, at the same time, I have no problem with people writing letters to apple, or Steve Jobs to voice their displeasure. They have a right since the paid good money for a product. Look at it this way, compare your phone to your car. I use my phone probably as much or more than my car. If you buy a brand new car, would you accept these types of problems? Yellow splotches? Your windshield shattering so easy with 1 little fender bender (1 drop)? Your car is to have OnStar, but when you need it most the signal doesn't go through? But the maker of the car comes out and says "hey, your driving the car wrong and just throw a few decals on and it will be fine." I don't think anyone would accept that.

Good find.

The latter of the two shows him starting with 4 bars, dropping it to one by bridging the gap. I'm going to take an educated guess that it has to do with detuning the antenna rather than shorting anything out. Going back to my CB Radio days... If you modify the length of any antenna, it's going to change the way it can send/receive signals. There's no electricity flowing through the antenna anyway so by using a metallic object to bridge two separate antennas together, the length of the antenna is going to change.

According to Apple, they're addressing the # of bars showing up and not the signal. Since he started with 4 bars, dropping it to one, the 3G signal probably was supposed to be 2 bars to begin with (following Apple's logic). If you are detuning the antenna by adding extra length (ie. bridging it with the bottom WiFi antenna), it's going to drop a little bit.

I wouldn't be too disheartened by this, it's only bars, and not an accurate representation of pure signal. Plus, if the radio is turned to SNR, the detuning of the antenna is going to be more severe. That's my guess anyway.

I can't tell you how many times I've found my data lagging if not freezing and looking down to see that despite having a bumper the connection has dropped to No Service.

That sounds exactly like my wife's iPhone 3G. What part of the country are you on? We are in Los Angeles, CA.

Btw... even with 5 full 3G bars in our place, the network chokes terribly. She leaves it in Edge b/c at times it is much faster than 3G (esp. latency).

What makes your whining about thier posts more acceptable then thier whining about a product they just spent alot of money on? At the very least they have a vested interest in thier whining.

You instead enter a thread with a title that obviously is going to complain about Apple and go "YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN! NO RIGHT AT ALL!".

How about when the call just drops? Can they be dishearted then? Or is that more problems with thier math?

Comparing people's problems with a phone to the Gulf oil spill is nothing but a Godwin-like straw man to quell discussion.

It's possible to have a problem that does not need to surpass the headline tragedy of the day.

[QUOTE) I fired off a letter to Apple about their iPhone 4 Response [/QUOTE]

Is that how you always talk? :D

Did you even read what I wrote, or did NCLB fail you too? You clearly didn't get the argument or the point I was making. Try reading it again and find the thesis, let me know when you find it.

You forgot the starving children in Africa. Can we feed them too?

The only point is that you're a defensive fanboy child who gets upset when someone complains that their expensive phone doesn't work the way it should. I guess apologists likes you are happy when a company releases a cell phone that shouldn't be held a certain way because of an obvious hardware flaw.

Give up your crusade to defend a massive corporation. They have plenty of people on their payroll to defend them. They don't need your free "services".

Ah, so you didn't read it. The point was a bit more specific than that, you clearly missed it. You're welcome to read it again until you get the point.

Don't worry, NCLB isn't your fault.

You don't like the phone, return it. Really is that simple.

Bitching and moaning(and posting letters you sent to Apple) in a forum is not going to magically fix the iPhone reception issue....

Uh...thanks Slippy for your insight. I returned the iPhone 4 and now have two pristine iPhone 3Gs'. Moving on...
