I'm on day 4 with it and I have very mixed feelings about whether to keep it. I really keep swinging back and forth. While I like the ability to see and knock out a text very quickly, I'm also just as often getting annoyed that my arm is being tapped when I'm in the middle of talking to someone or focused on something. Seems kind of distracting. Not sure yet how to balance the desire to get texts/emails in a timely manner with not interrupting moments when I'm intentionally trying to focus on something other than my digital communications (like talking to someone, or counting, or some work-related fire to put out).
The other reason I'm on the fence and leaning towards returning are the first-gen issues. You can reply to a text but not to a Facebook message. Seems almost like an arbitrary limitation that will be lifted in the next go-round. Another issue is it's great that the watch won't go off when you have your phone open, but it WILL go off even when I'm working on my Macbook, which is tethered to my phone (Handoff and Continuity). So while I'm at work looking at my Macbook and even texting people via iMessage on the Macbook, or emailing, my watch still taps me every time the person replies even though I have the app actively open and am writing them. Just seems like one of those things that'll get figured out next gen also. It wouldn't be convenient to shut off my watch notifications every time I sit down at the computer.
While I've never been a watch-wearer, reading about the Apple watch has given me an appreciation for nice watches and I might find myself actually wanting to go pick up a nice mechanical watch after this experience, whether I keep the AW or not.
All that said, it is a marvel of engineering and I did very much enjoy using the workout app to go for a walk today. Like I said, I have a love-hate relationship with the notifications. Sometimes I find it really cool to have them, other times they're distracting when I'm in the middle of something. Haven't had any issues with Siri, seems really really accurate when dictating. So, I think there's something here and there's a future to this sort of device... just wondering if it's really truly ready for primetime for someone like me for whom the $700 was a substantial investment. Still have about a week and a half to decide.
