I gave up on the Apple Watch

It's definitely not twenty seconds. I think it actually changes depending on watch face. The motion face displays for about 5 seconds.

Gonna have to go ahead and call BS on that. Just checked each watch face and they all are about 15-17 seconds from when the screen lit up after I tapped it to when it timed out. Even the motion face. Just because the jellyfish disappears doesn't mean the time isn't still displayed/the screen isn't active.

Really confused as to why you gave it up. I don't have one yet but it is a product made for microinteractions. 40 percent battery life at the end of the day is a problem? I'd get an apple watch to tell time, get notifications such as text messages, phone calls, sports scores, weather, apple pay, and to track my health. I'd know going into it though that it is a product meant to look at in very short intervals and not to be on all day trying to do things with it that i'd use my iphone for. It's a complement to the iPhone not a replacement. It is an extraordinary product but it is in fact a watch.

I guess I just don't see the point of a complement for my iPhone because my iPhone is already so easy to tote around and glance at. I'm also not sold on the looks. I have a small wrist and the Apple watch looks positively enormous on me.

I don't disagree with that statement at all. Wasn't trying to be rude at all I was just voicing my opinion. It really isn't trouble to just pull out your iPhone. I'm personally waiting to get one eventually. I'm in no rush. Sorry if I came across as argumentative that wasn't my intention in the slightest.

i returned my watch also, I don't wear a watch all day every day only when we go out

and normally as soon as I get indoors I remove my watch and place it on the bunker

Which means all those steps I could be gaining just aren't being recorded :(

I also received my phone replacement as it had a vibrating speaker, when I was without my phone for a few hours the watch just felt Soooo pointless! Anyone that has a watch, switch off their phone then try and use the watch

It's basically a mirror image of your phone which zaps both the batteries having Bluetooth on all the time

Maybe it's just me but £600 on a mirror just doesnt cut it with me, I would rather put the money to good use on something else, in the UK it's just shy of purchaing a nice iMac for the house at £899

The Mirror watch! What you can do on the watch you can do on the phone....why buy 2???

Since my apple watch arrived, I no longer carry my iPhone in my pocket around the house. I realized that always checking on my phone was a type of OCD and being afraid of missing notifications. Then, once the phone was in my hand, I might as well check up on my blogs and Facebook etc...Now? I hardly even look at my phone. Mission accomplished. The watch removed the crippling need for me to be constantly having my nose in my phone's screen. Of course, I am also a watch wearer, so wearing the watch doesn't seem odd and the health and fitness apps are an added benefit.

Best purchase ever.

It does a bad job at being a WATCH, let alone for anything else like fitness, etc. It's not on the whole time and it doesn't stay on long enough to read the time half the time.

It's an alpha/beta product at best.

Nothing like. It's a well designed and competent product - it's just not intended for the kind of uses some people seem to have been expecting it to be.

And please, it's time to get away from the 'it's not a proper watch, it's not on the whole time' nonsense. In the age before the wristwatch, people had watches in their pockets, had to fish them out, and often flip open a cover in order to see the time. I don't see any mention in even the most thorough of history books that these were not 'proper' watches. Generations later - though still many years ago - the first generation of digital watch had LED displays and only told the time when a button was pressed, and even then only for a second or two, yet not one person then thought to suggest they were not 'proper' watches.

By any sensible definition, a watch is a device that tells the user of it what time it is. I've been wearing my Apple watch since April 24th, and it has not failed to do that for me on one single occasion I wanted to know. It's a watch.

Same here! At work it's also been great for the same reasons. Even just a few seconds saved from having to always check my phone/email/etc helps a lot, or at least I can see who the message is from to determine urgency level.

Everyone's input is great. I'm very much on the fence about the watch and ordered one during a mania of DESIRE for a cool new Apple thingy. I should get it sometime next week and even though I'm honestly having my doubts about keeping it, I am looking forward to wearing it for a week or two just to see how it affects my life.

Actually, you're both right. If you tap the screen deliberately then it's about a 20 second window of on time. If you use the wrist movement to activate that becomes only 4 seconds.

This makes a lot of sense and indicates a degree of attention to detail that is impressive.

This watch (steel WSB) is the cheapest I have owned in 30 years, by a factor of five, yet I'm enjoying it as much as any of my high-end mechanicals. It's by no means a replacement for the aesthetics and appreciation of a high end automatic watch, but it does its intended tasks very well indeed, and is at least on par with a TAG, Longines or similar mid level watch in terms of fit and finish.

From what I hear any e-mails that show disappointment in customer service is answered. Keep us posted.

No answer as of today, but if I hear anything I will let everyone know the results. I went and ordered a new 42mm SS Classic Buckle yesterday evening with an estimated delivery of 26 Jun - 2 Jul.

Actually, I must have gotten someone's attention as my order has already been charged and changed to Preparing for Shipment. The dates have not changed but something is going on. They must have taken pity on me and gave my order priority and gave me the next one on the assembly line.

No offense, but how long does it take you to read the time on a clock? If it's more than the 10 seconds the watch face lights up, then the problem is not the Watch.

Really appreciate the replies.

Indeed this isn't about the battery life - which I've actually been impressed with - it's more about me using it less and less. A (bad) attempt at humour ;)

I do miss it on my arm, but at the same time it's nice to not worry about it getting bumped etc when with my son.

Also - I actually had no idea about the hey Siri to open an app. Annoyed that I missed that!

I'll probably be tempted again in a few weeks...
Oh, gosh, the "Hey Siri function is one of the things that makes the watch great ... I use it all the time ... I'm cooking "Hey Siri, set a timer for 30 minutes" .. "Hey Siri, set an alarm for 8:00 a.m. tomorrow", "Hey Siri how much time is left on my timer?" ... "Hey Siri what is the temperature right now" ... Just one of the many reasons thatI looooove my watch!

Now it is official, from order on 4 June to shipping notification on 6 June. Still never heard anything from anyone at Apple but I would have to think someone there had to had something to do with the quick turnaround.

I then learned that unlike the iPhone, I have to open Passbook before using Apple Pay. You don't have the fingerprint verification, so there has to be some manual input to keep from accidentally paying for stuff a lot.

You do not have to open Passbook. Hold your wrist to the reader and double click the button (not the crown). Apple Pay will activate.

So, I returned my second watch (a SS milanese, upgraded from a black Sport) and won't be getting another for now. Two reasons:

- I consistently had over 40% battery life at the end of the day (indicative of barely using it during the day). Obviously, this is just me, and I know others have different use cases. I have a very active, but ultimately office-based job.
- The number of interactions to accomplish basic things was pretty frustrating (click click click to get to Passbook). I often found reaching for my iPhone was much easier.

That said, I absolutely loveeeeed the watch overall, and my Timex just doesn't feel as good on my arm. Navigation was great, and I really like using it to board aircraft etc.

Semi-regretting it now of course. :) Perhaps 2nd gen?

PS. My son (5yo) took completely naturally to speak to his family through my wrist. Kids these days have no idea how futuristic things are!

For those that don't want to keep watch or find it not what they thought, why post to the forum?

I haven't really had to open passbook manually. Anything I use it for (Starbucks, Fandango tickets, etc.) has popped up automatically at the location I've needed it.

Can you have it open automatically on the watch? I've been messing with my wife's a bit before mine arrives. I was disappointed that you couldn't add a Passbook glance.

Maybe to help those who are on the fence. Once they hear the reasons some are returning, that will help them decide if the watch is for them or not. This may actually cut down on returns...maybe...
