While I like the idea of the SE, I still have an use my "lowly" iPhone5 and with the cases and other gadgets I have for it I was happy Apple sort of brought it back so if I do decide to upgrade my lowly "5" I will have a better option than a refurb 5s for a little while longer!

How did a person exlaiming their happiness for a new phone turn into a dick measuring contest of who's phone is better? It used to be that this happened with Android vs iOS. Shame.
It seems people are upset that Apple released an iPhone that's newer than theirs, so they're compelled to make people feel bad about liking an iPhone that's almost as good but less than 2/3 the price.

The SE is a big upgrade from the 6, and a decent upgrade from the 6S. And that's due to the size alone.

The SE may be suitable for those who like a smaller iPhone but it lacks a force touch enabled screen that the 6S comes standard with which doesn't quite qualify it as an "upgrade".

This may not sound like a big deal but if Apple introduces many features focused around the force touch interface in iOS 10 I guarantee SE owners are going to have buyer's remorse. Apple doesn't just drop a new feature and forget about it.

The iPhone 5S introduced TouchID which seemed to be just a convenience to unlock your phone. Now look at it

Apple Pay requires it
Apps started taking advantage of it for authorization so users don't have to enter username and passwords to login.

Apple Pay is not even available in more than 4-5 countries as of today. And about authorization, I don't know about you (or anyone else) but personally I always need to type my password for iTunes Store purchases because every time my device die or I reboot it, it freaking ask for my iTunes Store password again.

Touch ID is a really great and convenient feature and while it's saving me a lot of time, I could definitely live without it because I could just type my 4 or 6 digits passcode which take 1 or 2 seconds.

I think it's the same for 3D Touch, it's a great feature and I don't doubt that it will get better with software updates but I don't think it will ever be a must have feature for most people.

Personally, I would never regret purchasing the iPhone SE because it lacks 3D Touch, I favor design and form factor above a simple and cool feature.

Apple Pay isn't even available on the 5s, at least not the part that matters (NFC payments). It required brand new hardware, so that's not the best example to use if you want to talk about 3D Touch getting more useful later on.

Also, out of all the apps I use, only two support signing in with a fingerprint, and only one of those (bank app) I use regularly. Sure, it's a convenience, but it's definitely not something I couldn't live without.

3D Touch would be awesome to have on my iPhone SE, but the only reason I want it with its current implementation is for the keyboard trackpad. Other than that reason, I'm not missing 3D Touch at all.

I think 6s owners are angry about Apple. They payed much more and all they were given were 0.7inch more screen, a nano-second faster fingerprint sensor and the hoax technique 3D Touch, witch is basically nothing else than long hold software wise.

That's why they come up with "returned it, was too small"- as if they truly notice a difference. In daily life they don't notice their sandwich at a restaurant being 0.7inch taller or smaller, but hey, on a phone it's a burden...

If there was a cup holder on the 6s and not on the SE, they would choose that one to justify their purchase. A cup holder is as useful on a phone like 3D Touch, but hey, it's really worth a hundred dollars.

I don't understand why ANY 6/6s(+) owners feel the need to "throw shade" on the SE, or vice versa.

Personally, I am very happy with my 6s+, but I am truly happy for those that want a smaller form factor, that they now have the SE.

Does it really matter which move(s), if any, is/are (an) upgrade(s)?

I upgraded to an SE from a 6+. The way this thing outperforms my old phone makes me hate my 6+ even more. What a dud it is, especially after installing IOS 9.

3D touch is limited at the moment. I don't care much for it myself however, Apple could do something big with it in iOS 10 to entice users to upgrade their phones to a 3D touch supported model or just make it more worthwhile.

I use at least 5 apps now that support touchID. Developers have been slow but they are updating their apps to utilize it.

Completely understandable. I'm just merely pointing out that people are spending good money on a new phone that Apple released just this year that already lacks a feature that last year's 6S included. Can people live without 3D touch? sure. but why not have it if you are getting a new phone? You know what I mean?

I wasn't interested in this device at all but got a great deal on a used one via ebay. I use a 6s+ as my daily driver but after just a few days of using the SE on and off, this thing is amazing! Speed wise it's crazy fast, just like the 6s+ and that's the main reason I figured I would give it a try. Granted I love the bigger screen on the 6s+ but the SE will just be for when I go to events like baseball games, plays.. etc and I can just toss my sim into it rather then bring my bigger device. The only thing I noticed that I really missed when using the SE was the camera not capturing images as crisp. That's not a device issue other then no stabilization like the 6s+ but rather my nervous tick every time I take a picture.. for some reason I tend to move a bit, causing a bit of blurriness. That almost always goes away when I turn on HDR and keep both photos, so it's ok.. but like I said.. I do miss that part. So I'll keep both devices, and skip iphone 7 all together, unless work wants to buy it for me like the 6s+. hmm :)

I started with a year of using the 6+ from its release to six months of the 6S+. The + size phones were starting to feel too big so I switched to the 6S mid cycle. The 6S was a decent and manageable size but I wasn't happy with the battery life so I returned it and now have the SE. Everything is ok except when I have to use the wife's phone (6S) for something. That's when I get a ping of regret on swapping the 6S for the SE. I hope the 7 will be somewhere in the middle of the SE and 6S.

Not worried about whether it was an upgrade, sidegrade or downgrade... It fits my needs and that's what matters to me. It's a tool and at the moment the SE suits me best.

Yes I do know what you mean, of course I also wish the iPhone SE had 3D Touch, I mean who doesn't want more features ? :p

I prefer to use my phone one-handed. The 6 that I have is just too big for that. I really loved the iPhone 5 format and I am thinking of switching to the SE. But what does it matter. It's still an iPhone :)

The iPhone 5 was a great phone in 2012, and the iPhone 5s has been doing well for the past few years since its introduction in 2013. But wouldn’t Apple have attracted even more new buyers if the SE featured a fresh new design?

I've got a 128 iPhone 6S plus, and seriously considering the 5SE if I need a replacement, frankly , the top model in the 7 will just be very expansive due to the US dollar, and the 5 design is better than the newer iPhones that followed HTC influences in my opinion .

No. Best thing about it is the classic design.

I loved the iPhone 5's design, but I still would have liked to see it updated a little. Though I'm not complaining because I'd rather have the 4 year old iPhone 5's design than the current iPhone 6s'.

And the price factor
They made the first ever cheap iPhone and you are demanding more and more features

Did we really just compare 3D Touch on a phone to a cup holder in said phone? I mean I get it. You don't like 3D Touch. I'm not even going to get into why 3D touch dint just s long press (in all instances) because the point is moot since you've made it clear how pointless you find it, and that's fine.

But let's discuss the other differences between the 6s and the SE, because there more than you mention.

"Just .7 inches" is something like 20% more screen real estate. I could do the numbers or even find an online calculator but in typing this from bed. The take home point is it's not as small a leap as it sounds.

Expanding on that the actual image quality is better, has higher contract, better viewing angles, and is an overall better screen. It also has a higher resolution, though the same ppi.

The phone is thinner and with a larger battery, and so performance, including projected battery life is quite close to that of the SE (slightly lower battery life).

There is LTE advanced on board (perhaps useless today but those who are keeping the phone longer will reap benefits).

There is a barameter to track elevation,'something that fitness buffs may find useful (admittedly I run and don't find this useful in the slightest).

Perhaps there are other things I missed too, those just from the top of my head. I tried to list them in order of what I might dram important.

I say all of this as a family that literally has the entire spread of current gen iPhones. 6s plus. Two 6s. One SE. All of these phones are great within their own right. In inclined to agree that the SE gives the mist bang for its buck in terms of overall performance, but that screen size is a severe limitation for those that appreciate the larger screens. It's just as simple as that.

As to why people are getting angry and arguing about upgrade versus downgrade is still beyond me. Every one of us is likely to keep our respective phone for at least two years. This isn't something I've been able to say about an iPhone since the 4s. It's wonderful Apple has given their users choice amongs lt their smartphone line. Finally. Room to breath.
