Got mine done a couple months back here in Singapore. Inspired by Incidentist's own laser etching on his PowerBook. Plus I did my name in the lower left hand corner in Helvetica.

That's so cool! I just registered to ask where did you have it done? Do they do international orders?

It is an acquaintance who has a machine. ;) I'm pretty sure there should be one where you live, look for those who do trophys/memorial plaque thingys. They usually need an engraver to engrave the metal plates.

But it's a very small design. $15 sounds almost reasonable.

Which will make it harder to steal. It's one thing to have a nondescript laptop, it's another to have one with a design where everyone knows who the owner is, like if you're at a party. Like mine. :D

(and I might note, even better if it's your name that's engraved on it)

Most people who get their laptops engraved don't usually resell it. I'm not planning on reselling mine, at any rate. In fact, I'm hoping the blackbook cases stay the same so I can pull off the one I have now and reuse it on my next laptop.

this is one of the very rare macbook etchings that i find nice...
its not overdone, its not name, it reminds me a bit of the G clef.. ;) nice anyway. kudos

That picture makes it look like the laser went so deep that it is letting light shine through from the backlight. Or is it just the lighting in the room?

Oh it's nowhere near that deep, it's just enough to be able to feel that it's engraved. But it's also enough to show, apparently, what is not black plastic underneath :p

Thanks! It's got a couple of mistakes (admittedly mine when I didn't think about what thin lines would look like), but I like it enough :) And now that you mention it, it does remind me of that clef too (I play piano).

It's been a while (about a year!) since I got that engraving, but now I'm considering replacing it with a MBP (with another engraving, of course :) ), so what a retraction when I say I may consider reselling it :p
