A hairline scratch on the hinge is really nothing, but if that is going to bug you then send it back. You still have the 1 year warranty on the first one, so if the speaker issue pops back up again you can have it dealt with at that time.

Personally.....I would keep the second one. A scratch on the hinge is not a huge deal for me and the fact that the speakers on the original had issues once leads me to wonder if it isn't something lurking. The potential of having to deal with that down the road is enough to make me send it back.

Moral of the story being that there really is no wrong answer here. You'll be fine either way. Just figure out which factor is most important to you.

well, id rather have a hairline scratch then that slagging popping come back later if it does, as you say it could be something else lurking.

i assume you have a rertina, may I ask what screen is on yours?

I got mine yesterday with exactly same specs as yours and mines a Samsung.

Exchange it if its gonna be on your mind every time you use it.

i really like the white on the lg but im concerned about the future ghostings and the crackling noise coming back.

The LG SJA2 display. It looks better, right? By all reports the IR problem is fixed in general for the SJA2 display. There is nothing magical about Samsung. Face it, Apple is moving away from Samsung as a supplier. In the near future you aren't going to be able to buy a Mac with Samsung components.

And if you get get IR, Chuck Norris would scare his rMBP into behaving. :)

Doesn't matter. If it's going to be in your mind all the time exchange it.

The amount of money you've paid you should expect something that looks and works like it should.

like ask for a THIRD exchange?

i dont think they will replace it again lolz

I just got a 2012 refurb that has the SJA2 screen, so even the older ones are getting it now. No IR on mine.

Why not?

You're entitled to it, right?

well since it was a new replacement machine, they said they would have nomrlaly just attemptied to repair it even though its new, but made an exception on sending a new one

So i got my new retina macbook pro 15" today.

everything is great about it, 16gb ram, 256gb ssd and 2.7ghz i7 etc

but i see it came with an LG screen.

is the issue about ghosting still around or what should i do?

so far I havent noticed anything under normal usage

Im wondering the same... I just received my new 2013 rMBP 15 BTO - 2.7 16GB 256GB from Apple. I have the SJA2 LG screen. I had originally ordered the same BTO before realizing WWDC was around the corner a month ago and had returned it. That unit had the Samsung display.

So within 30 days, same exact computer from apple I received 2 different LCDs. Not sure if I should try the "lottery" as people say and return this one. I wish I had kept the Samsung.

I actually think the SJA2 looks brighter and more crisp. I can't duplicate any image retention from the online tests. However someone mentioned that had it during AirPlay mirroring. So I did an airplay mirror and after disabling it can defined see a few seconds of image retention. Then I tried doing the same exact thing using the discrete GPU and was not a le to duplicate it with the GPU, only the HD4000.

Yes, the early 2013 version started receiving LG panels with a new model number ending in SJA2, viewable via the Terminal command.

I tried catching up with the main thread at ASC here, and it looks like there are maybe 1 or 2 instances of ghosting in the SJA2 panels, but nowhere near as bad as SJA1. That's not a guarantee of course but if I were shopping right now I'd like my chances with an SJA2 a whole lot more.

How can i see it in terminal?

How can i see it in terminal?

Copy and paste the following command into Terminal:

ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

LSN=Samsung
LP=LG (SJA1=older 2012 panel. SJA2=newer early 2013 panel)

I got a screen replacement (now LG SJA2) and now everything looks a little bit yellow. With the old screen (samsung) everything was ok.

What can I do? Maybe I have to calibrate the display?

what was wrong with the samsung if the screen was "ok"

but theres a scratch on the back plastic hinge.

Were talking about an Apple product you paid the premium for. The quality should be flawless. Get it replaced. Ive capitalized on how Apple pays attention to detail, a scratch anywhere that shouldn't be there, is not.

I've had my 15" rMBP since January this year and it has a LG-SJA1 screen.
I was nervous when I found that out but in all honesty there is still no sign of IR at all. Maybe I just got lucky or maybe it will yet happen (which will be fine as I have Applecare :) ).
It is a cool white, which I prefer. I've seen the odd Samsung screen that looks more like my 8 years old Sony Vaio in colour terms.
So it's not all doom and gloom for LG-SJA1 owners :D
