The LG SJA2 display. It looks better, right? By all reports the IR problem is fixed in general for the SJA2 display. There is nothing magical about Samsung. Face it, Apple is moving away from Samsung as a supplier. In the near future you aren't going to be able to buy a Mac with Samsung components.

And if you get get IR, Chuck Norris would scare his rMBP into behaving. :)

These reports start on page 557 of this thread. I'm not sure if it's the display everyone is talking about.

I got an LG with a new number

Well I just opened up my new 15" rMBP and ran the command line to get the screen type and found that I have an LG that ends in SJE1 (i.e. neither SJA1 or SJA2), so I suppose there is yet another screen model number to consider... I'll have to run an IR test and keep an eye on it but I'd have to imagine they've likely worked this stuff out this time (I did end up replacing the screen on my last rMBP so I'm very much hoping so)

I've had my 15" rMBP since January this year and it has a LG-SJA1 screen.
I was nervous when I found that out but in all honesty there is still no sign of IR at all. Maybe I just got lucky or maybe it will yet happen (which will be fine as I have Applecare :) ).
It is a cool white, which I prefer. I've seen the odd Samsung screen that looks more like my 8 years old Sony Vaio in colour terms.
So it's not all doom and gloom for LG-SJA1 owners :D

That's good to know.

I received my refurb rMBP 15" about three weeks ago and it, too, has the LG-SJA1 screen. So far, so good.

Screens are strange things. When I bought my now-replace Lenovo ThinkPad T500 in 2009, the screen "lottery" win was to get an LG, not a Samsung. I had a Samsung, but it was a lot cooler than my rMBP LG screen. However, I much prefer the colors in my MBP LG screen. They seem more accurate than on my ThinkPad.

Well, just picked up a 2.3 / 16 / 512 15" and running the following command on first boot:

ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

All I get is..

xcode-select: note: no developer tools were found at '/Applications/Xcode.app', requesting install. Choose an option in the dialog to download the command line developer tools.

Then a pop-up to install Xcode

---------------------

Edit: Installed Xcode and ... well.. it's a LG

I got an SJE1 myself (15"/2.6GHz/16GB/1TB/750m). No IR yet. I'm finding the color to be way off (very green). Tried software calibration and it made it much worse (little bit better on color balance but VERY dark). Same with yours?

That's what I got too! SJE1

I gotta say....it's quite a lot brighter than my Sammy...in a good way!

Haven't calibrated yet...

MBP Config 2.3, 16, 512

Just got my rMBP 2 days ago and finally decided to register. I also have the SJE1 and haven't see any IR or other screen issues.

Config on mine is 2.6, 16, 1TB, 750

i just got a retina display.

it's got a yellow tint and i can't calibrate it because it's like a 4 inch cloud running across the middle of the screen.

i frankly don't like samsung. we have samsung monitors at work and they all have color problems. mine is pink at the top and green towards the bottom. there is no possible way you can fix something like that with calibration.

I have the same configuration rMBP and model LCD, but I don't have any color issues or IR with my screen.
