Basic tools like SMS messenger crashed all the time and I reformatted several times within just months of having it.

Interesting. My X10 mini has never had any kind of bug in SMS system or anything else.
To be honest, only 1 problem rarely happens: an application stops responding and the OS tells that to me, asking if I want to force close it.

I've NEVER had any bug or problem with SMS system, either using original app or 3rd party (downloaded from Android Market) apps.

I don't know if your EVO just sucks, if it came broken or if you're just another troll saying as many ******** as you can.
Your particular problem doesn't represent the whole Android scene.

If Android is that garbage that you talk about, it wouldn't get the same market share that iOS already has.

but to be really honest you have to admit the iPhone is getting tired in the looks department and needs a change of some sort.

Really? I've had the pleasure of using the flagship phones from both Verizon and Sprint and they feel and look like cheap plastic compared to the iPhone. I have yet to see a single phone out there that looks even half as good, especially from the side and back.

Given other reports quoting numbers such as Android growing by over 800% in the last year, I'd say Android is more like an unstoppable steam train that's going to blast past Apple.

Apple are probably not bothered as they know full well this is going to happen and there is nothing they can do about it. Well there is, but they won't.

I think the iPad is a great product, and it will be a shame if the same happens to this with Android tablets blasting past the iPad in the next few years.

There is only 1 company that can stop this happening, question is, will they, or will they happily just make what they want to make replying on loyal brand customers rather than competing.

If only my crystal ball was working. How I would love to see what the market looked like at 2020.

Whether Apple was the king at the top of the pile, or everyone was looking back at how they waisted their lead and missed the opportunity as they were far too sure of themselves.

We'll see :)

These type of statements crack me up. If Android was this "unstoppable steam train" as you say, why did Verizon try so hard to get the iPhone? Why did Verizon say that they need the iPhone due to slowing Android momentum? People want iPhone and the only reason Android has grown was due to its heavy promotion by Verizon because it didn't have the iPhone.

Let's see how this year shapes up now that iPhone will be appearing on CDMA carriers across the globe.

I guess we will see.

All I know is some national daily papers in the UK seem chock full of various mobile phone deals and it's awash with various Android smartphone handsets from HTC, Samsung etc.

Given that people don't generally just instantly get rid of their mobiles but have to wait for contracts to run out, I'd me amazed is many of these people looking for great deals on their new purchase don't take advantage of these many deals that are in the newspapers.

Apple adverts are hardly to be seen. Now you may well argue that they don't need to bother, and perhaps they don't. But it does "look" like the majority of people may well go down the Android route just down the the variety on offer bot in terms of models, makes, and deals.

Which is why I used the term steam train as I can't see anything else other than Android blasting past the iPhone big time as the new few years go on.

Apple may well hold the high ground of course, but not the mass.

I just don't think that it is wise to assume that Android OEMs are going to be able to duplicate what they have done in the tablet market as they have in the phone market.

The conventional wisdom is that Apple took the iPhone OS and made a successful tablet. Android has proven to be a worthy competitor in the phone market, therefore Android can duplicate this in the tablet market.

As you noted, people usually buy phones based on contracts and carriers rather than devices- this has helped traditional phone makers like HTC and Samsung.

I have a bold prediction: within 2 years iPhone market share will mimic iPod market share. Huge lead in the US and and substantial lead worldwide. iPad worldwide marketshare will be greater still.

Is it because they have to offer buy one for $99 and get one free to get people to buy them ?

Or better yet the free or the $49 Android 1.6 phone ?

In consumer electronics, the mobile phone category totally dwarfes anything else. There's plenty of room for everyone to 'win'.
Jobs said in that 2007 keynote, something along the lines of: "even if you have 1% marketshare, it means you've sold 10 million phones. it's a huge Market, with lots of players."

No, that is childish.

There is a larger range of Android handsets out there on the market, even very recent models that offer all that many people need at competitive prices that is within the budgets of more people.

Many people don't really care if it's Apple or not, it's just another smart phone to them. A lot of peoples lives do not revolve around who makes their phone.

Honeycomb > iPad

If Apple doesn't release something very impressive with iOS5, they are going to be irrelevant in the tablet market.

Needs:

- Widgets
- Revised notification system
- Better multi tasking
- Better access to hardware for software makers

I *was* planning on buying an iPad 2 next, but as of right now I'm leaning towards Google. They just bitch slapped Apple with Honeycomb.

Considering Apple sells units based on their os instead of throwing every feature and impressive spec into the iOS devices, I'd say that copying the crap other companies put out (that don't make as much money) would be idiotic. I'm sure they and their share holders and people who own iOS devices would agree. If iOS starts looking like Android, I'd just forget about it and get a dumb phone.

Android officially is more popular than iPhone now, and that trend is continuing.
1) you are comparing an OS with a phone model.
2) No its just merely available since you can get Android on phones that are 'free' models from some cell providers.
