Couple comments:

1. OP is obviously free to do whatever he wants and I personally can see how if you run a user group and try all these apps how you could have so many.

2. 1632 is a lot of apps and obviously not all needed. However, as prior members have mentioned, apple stores the info on all the apps you have ever purchased/downloaded and those will always be available to you (for free if you bought them for free) so there is no NEED to keep them on your iPad.

3. If you do want to clean your system (which I would encourage but leave up to you obviously) you should reset the drive and then download in two stages:
Stage 1 - all apps that you use on a DAILY basis (likely not more than a few apps)
Stage 2 - any app that you need at the time that you need it (ie, download a currency converter at the time that you need to convert currency)
This will ensure that your system is as clean as possible without unnecessary apps. Also, those freeappalert.com promos are usually junk (imo), if there really are any good deals, almost all the major news sites promote them.

At one time, I had over 1800 apps and 144 folders on my iPad. However, every time I try to move an app into a folder, and then push the home button to save it, the iPad reboots and returns me to where I was before I moved it.
Since then, I have deleted a lot of apps (down to 1632) from the iPad but have to move them a few at a time using iTunes and then sync them. Then I can move a few more. I hope to "weed it down" to just enough apps to leave page 11 blank.
I don't have any problems with running apps, music, videos, etc. It's only the arranging of apps that does not work properly. I don't think that Apple planned for someone having so many apps on it even though I have over 12GB of free space left. I think it is a combination of folders and apps that are causing the problem. GRRR!
I have talked to level 2 techs and also at the Apple store. I even have a replacement iPad2. Still the same problems.
I hope someone has a solution since Mr. Jobs stated that we can have over 2000 apps on the iPad when he introduced folders publically at the live meeting last year. ;)
I conduct a monthly meeting for over 60 computer club members specifically on the iPhone and iPad. It would be nice to not have this problem to show them this month at the meeting. :D

1. Seems like the OP posted this to show off/brag about the # of apps he has and that he was able to crash the iPad. Almost like those people who post about how they've tethered their iOS device and have used over 100GB of data in a month.

2. How does someone who conducts meetings about the iPad and iPhone NOT know that you can delete and re-download apps for free?

All of you saying that you have less than 50 apps...

Why would you bother with an Apple device if you don't use the apps.

App store is the significant difference when it comes to choosing between operating systems.

LOL, well, which four?
Starwalk, garageband, goodreader, and a silly game (which will be deleted and replaced with another silly game when i get bored with this one). I've had some others on there before, but if I don't use it for a while, it gets deleted. I can always reinstall in a few minutes. Like a calculator. And the time-warner cable app's sound stopped working when they updated it, otherwise i,d still have that. I'm thinking about replacing goodreader with something else.

I daily take a few moments to go to a site freeappalert.com to see what is available. That's where I have found some really great apps that are free for 12-24 hours only. My iPad is not jailbroken and apps were only obtained legally. I am retired so I have lots of time to do whatever I want with my iPad2.

1632 apps? :confused::confused:

Let me guess Cydia and Installous are your two favorite though...

The OP has already explained.

I'm not hoarding since there are over 500k available. :)

Well by this logic of course its not considered hoarding.

What a silly thought!

A grocery store has hundreds, maybe thousands of items. That doesn't mean you need to have one of every item in your refrigerator or cupboard (though one certainly has the right to if he or she so chose), nor does it make a grocery store any less necessary or useful if you don't have every item.

True, but there are so many crap apps in the App Store and only about 50 useful ones. :D

I'm also someone who has many apps just in case you might need it, like a cooking app, educational apps etc.

Currently I have 311 apps installed and still 11,5GB of free space left. I must also admit I have many photos (4500), songs (1500) and use (video) podcasts now and then...

Nevertheless my iPad 2 still works like a charm, I don't notice much difference compared to when it was on factory settings. But in order to prevent clutter, I've created folders and try to use them as much as possible.

New apps I download for trial, I put on my second screen, so I won't lose them out of sight and can have a look at them soon.

Why is it essential to have more than 50 apps to make the device useful?

App store is the significant difference when it comes to choosing between operating systems.

The App selection of each platform is the last thing I consider when making my phone or tablet purchase.

My iPhone 4:

That is quite unneccesary, but I understand his want for as many apps as possible. I had more than 300 apps last week, but decided to get rid of about 130 of them I rarely use, knowing I can just redownload them later. On my iPod touch, I had 350 apps before I sold it. With how many apps my family has downloaded, we have accumulated more than 800 apps on our computer, and I download many every day. My parents have Android phones, so they don't even count towards those, and they both have hundreds of apps too. All our app library is going to do is continue to grow, so why fight it? :p The more we have, the better. :)

Side note: I have all if my apps on a single page. I jailbroke my iPad and I use FolderEnhancer to make a folder with all my other folders of apps in it, which are organized by letter. (each folder is alphabetized, makes things easier to find) All of my apps are legitimate, because these people who make apps work too hard to not get paid for their work.

Wow, that is a lot of apps! I have less than 70 apps that I find useful. Anyway, if you've downloaded a free app, it's already been tied to your account as purchased. So no matter what happens to the price, you can download again for free. Also, you can just keep the extras on your computer and just put the useful ones on your iPad.

Oh no! It happened again!!!

 I added another app today!
I appreciate the comments that have been made. Yes, I do know about the apps that are stored that I don't have loaded on my device. I have even deleted the bad ones from iTunes so that I don't have to even remember them.
I guess I don't see about the negative response to hoarding. What about the people who have over 10,000 songs on their device? I guess they have to have it playing 24/7 and have it plugged into the wall to recharge every few hours! Thousands of photos can be a problem but I have really enjoyed being able to show some of our travels, etc to friends in a very nice viewable way. I like the fact that I can take my SDMC card out of my camera, download them into my ipad and immediately show them to friends who, as a matter of fact, are in the photos. They enjoy it also.
Now, if I could just hinge this iPad in the middle and make it smaller to carry around.

I think that apps are not really equivalent to songs/photos/etc

IE: You may have 1-2 word processing applications but thousands of word documents. The documents are what you are making, the app is what is manipulating them.

However, I for one think you should have all the apps you want.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

It must be a pain keeping all those apps up to date.

I don't understand this. Why not download the apps as you need them? Then your iPad automatically becomes a device that fits your life. How do you even know where to find something when you need it?

I just don't see the point of having this many apps.

Hahaha...that's the best response so far in this thread :D

Some people apparently need to be judgemental. I say...good for you, enjoy your apps...all 1633 of them ;)

When you say FREE, do you mean hacked apps. Cuz if you do this thread needs to end.

Thats what I thought he was saying when he was first talking about getting apps for "free"because if they wer purchased I think he would delete them and use the downloads tab when he wanted them.

To each their own though, he might not be that interested in a bunch of music but likes different apps. Never know, can't criticize the guy for it.

However, that is a bunch of apps! I just couldn't use that many consistently, which is why I don't have a lot. Honestly, I'd love to read an "essential app list" of some sort for my iPhone because I feel that I don't use it to it's full potential by using the same 10 apps over and over and over.
