At one point I had almost 300 apps and found syncing my i-devices a pain in the port. Every time, several apps needed to be updated. Apps I hadn't used in months. Sometimes 10 or 15 at a time.

I'm now down to an even 100, and some of them will go soon. I'm a sucker for a free game though, plus I've got a lot of books on my iPad now. Less updating with books...

I like how only one post in this entire thread has tried to help at all, by suggesting they try and close all open apps. Apparently (I will take the OP at his word) Mr. Jobs said the iPad could handle 2000 apps, but here we have one that isn't. There seems to be a magic number for the OP that 1432 is the most they can have on and not have the iPad behave strangely (random reboots). Since the device is not performing to spec, it might be nice if someone tried to help the OP do what they want to do rather than tell them not to do it. The OP wasn't asking how many apps you have, or if you thought they were weird, they were asking for help with a particular technical problem. Just a thought. Unfortunately I have no idea why the device would behave this way.

I wonder if there really is a limit and, if so, what it is. To a certain extent, I also like to keep many apps on my iPad.

I have 175. I recently got rid of some, but right now I only use 1.5 pages as I have two game folders, and folders for utilities and productivity apps. They are there if I need them. I do have a HARD time deciding which game to play, to the point where I will just not play any. At least if my computer exploded I could just use the iPad without any problems.

I can probably name half or more of my apps, but having over 300 is pushing it.
My computer freezes and stuff when I load up iTunes and click on the apps list. I'd hate to think what would happen if it tried to load over 1000 apps.

Installing previously purchased apps could be costly!!!

With the new cloud system starting up pretty soon, I really wonder if it will be an expensive burden downloading apps if you are not on WiFi and need to pay by the GB for downloading apps. It would be a good reason for not deleting most of the apps from your iPad or iPhone if you have space for them.
I think that the cable and DSL ISP's will some day not allow unlimited web access and, if they do, it will simply kill the use of the internet as well as using it for streaming videos. That would really make the USPS happy because people would stop using emails. That's what has happened to the use of 3G on iDevices now that you have to watch how many MB you use each month.
