how can you all afford the iPhone 10? Do you have upgrades or what? I’m in my contract for another year and have the SE. I would love the 10 but my mother said no.

I saved for it this year. In past years the lease payment is just part of the budget

I work a good job.
My bills are paid.

Food on the table.
budgeted right.
Bought 1. Well actually 2 but returning one once I get it.

LOL...

Not sure why I am bothering to respond. Bored I guess...

Answer: Welp, being an adult with a job and disposable income allows me to buy things whenever I feel like it without "asking my mom."

I do owe most of my current situation to my parents and the fact that they always made me work for anything I wanted and buy it with my own hard earned money... No allowance, no handouts, just working jobs to finance everything from my own school clothes, and any sports I wanted to play or activities I wanted to enjoy.

It came down to my parents wanting me to be a self-sufficient human being and the fact that they didn't have any money their damn selves...

If I would have asked for anything like an iPhone from them while living under their roof, I would have been laughed out of existence.

Advice: work hard, and buy your own stuff without asking mom.

How old are you? Can you work?
I work 2x a week for 10 hours. I have learning disabilities so I live with my mom.

You seem like you might be young. It's only like $40 a month extra on the phone bill, you can make that by babysitting or dog walking.
I’m 35 with learning disabilities.

Not everyone can afford the 10. It seems like it here because so many of us are excited, so it’s the big topic of conversation. But I’ll tell you that when I brought the subject up to my friends elsewhere, most people said it was too expensive for them, or that their current phone was good enough for another year, and a few decided to go with the 8. There are only maybe 4 or 5 of us that are getting the X.

It sounds like your Mom is looking out for you and helping you with your finances, so she’s probably right that it’s not a good choice, at least right now.

The SE is a really good phone, so maybe that’ll be okay until the newer phones come down in price?

Basically what he said above. I bought my wife and I an iPhone X 256GB. You just gotta get a good job that pays well and follow the steps above. It’s not about being able to afford the monthly payment. It’s about earning good money with your good job and paying full for the phones. That’s what’s impressive. Not that hard. I’m assuming your young. Knowledge son, learn. Learn hard and fast. You don’t get a good paying job just being a bum. Not saying you are but be smart, gain knowledge, and go get it.

I set aside some money from my annual bonus and keep it as a slush fund which I use to treat myself to a few things... including a fully paid iPhone every year.

just a guess...

- some people have decent incomes and can afford it

- some people finance it through Apple or their wireless carriers

- a lot of people sell their old phone to partially offset the cost of the new

- if we go by credit statistics, most people here can not afford the X but will charge it on their credit cards anyways

The hype and love for the company make it crazier every year.

SE is a great phone!

You're right, the SE is a great iPhone. And sometimes hype takes over someone when a product releases and when they want the newest device. But it's phones like the iPhone SE that Apple offers as an affordable entry-level price point phone compared to $1000 iPhone X. Others should purchase what they can afford, not what they want.

When my co-workers/family see I've got a new iPhone, as I do every year, they make fun of me for wasting money on such an expensive item. Some of them have several holidays a year costing more than an iPhone. Some of them smoke more than the cost of an iPhone. Makes me laugh, anyway.

You are probably on the younger side compared to some of us. I just had the let the wife know I was dropping $1500 on a phone after taxes and AC+. Her response, “I needed new luggage”
