That was just one of two examples I used, and one of many I could use.

The point is, who doesn't research before making a large purchase? I don't even know what your complaining about anyway. You just got the computer so if your not happy, return it.

Well, that part is ITunes related, but hey, it's still Apple related.

Yep, and you've been given multiple solutions to the problem, which in the first place is that you didn't have a backup. At the very least, even if you can't recover your old stuff, buy an external hard drive (they're cheap compared to the cost of the stuff you've lost) and keep a backup copy. You can even let Time Machine do it for you.

Is this one of those dickish "I know more **** about this than you" boards? Or one of those "Hey, this noob doesn't know what he's doing" boards? I hope not. I researched what I was doing... research didn't show anything about new models coming out. I had no less than 3 Mac people helping me with what kind of Mac I should get/have built. And yes, I can probably return it, but it's not that easy since I bought it from the online store and I can't talk to them about it at all, not even at the support line that I paid over 300 bucks to use, because they are closed.

You did research? That's hard to believe considering the first thing that would have come up was the rumors of the new macbooks.

You need a reality check if you think people have been rude to you during this thread. Step back and look at your own posts and then reevaluate how people are responding to you.

Really sorry to hear about your issues, could you advise the condition of your old PC and the hard drive?
If you REALLY have "thousands" of dollars worth of purchases it would be worth it to try a recovery service if you couldn't get your stuff off the drive yourself. Call apple and beg! IIRC I have heard /read of instances where a sympathetic CS has helped in rare cases.

Maybe stick a small piece of felt or some of those thin rubber bumpers on each corner of the screen frame to prevent it hitting the keys? I know... shouldn't have to but thats what I'd try if a complaint to Apple didn't help.

The folks here can be really helpful, and they REALLY know their stuff, but it's best if you don't start out by bashing Apple on a Mac forum!

Good luck with your issues, I know how frustrating it can be.

Oh yea, if you ever make another Mac purchase you get 90 days free support. Make sure you are going to keep the item before buying the extended warranty, you have up to a year to add it on. heck you don't even have to buy it from Apple. Some times you can even find it cheaper.

Your Mac guys should have known this as well...

Thats what I said. What persons spends $3000 doing no research on what they are buying?

You'd be surprised. Some of the less tech savvy people I know would have forked over there sole to the devil in terms of spending money on this without a thought unless I intervened. No judgement but they were usually older, had money to spend easily and did not think researching was important when it came to computers and what not but would however thoroughly research something like a new washing machine so long as the sales men didn't get to them. Interesting.

To the OP,
Allot of the posts do come off as rude and I get that but its usually people criticizing things, usually constructive in nature but can be easily misinterpreted.

I paid over 300 bucks for 3 years of Apple Care,

Just letting you know that you could find AppleCare for less than 300 at other places.

Also I have a friend who's exactly like you, he is the reason why I never advice friends on computer things.

Advice friends?

And why would other people offer tech support for Apple?

Firstly, my old PC broke and I never knew you couldn't download your albums, songs, games, etc. again if this happened. Got my new Macbook Pro, signed into Itunes from it and there was nothing there. They said it said when I downloaded them that it was advisable to make a backup copy, and I remember it saying that but I didn't know it was because you couldn't download them again.

So, you're unhappy because you're uninformed and unintelligent?

Maybe you you should get used to this feeling
.

I may be a bit uninformed about this computer, but I'm not unintelligent. Do you go around basing everyone's intelligence on how much they know about Macbook Pro's?

Next time when you are doing your research then, the website your on, macrumors.com It has a link at the top that says Buyer's guide. The buyer's guide suggests when to buy and when a refresh is likely and to wait. You get a silver star for your research effort though.

I'm sorry, and I really don't mean to be unkind, but you post you're poor experience as though it's Apples fault that you lost your content, when in fact, you were told:

They said it said when I downloaded them that it was advisable to make a backup copy, and I remember it saying that but I didn't know it was because you couldn't download them again.

Yes ... It is true ... I believe to be a Rocket Scientist ... you need to know your way around a MBP or you go straight to maintenance.

My late 08 unibody 15" MBP has the keyboard smudging problem. The keys are too high and when lid is closed they physically touch the screen.
Very annoying, and one reason why I want to buy a new MBP is to end the smudging...

Well, first of all. You should complain to your friend, not macrumors.
You chose to buy a computer at what certain time frame, it is not apple's job to tell YOU, who has no relation to apple whatsoever, that a new computer is coming. They dont even tell their employees, so get over the fact that you didnt see an update coming.
Seriously, if you googled, 2011 Macbookpro back in January, there were rumors.
About the key thing, you might have a defected computer, you could get it fixed by sending it back. I mean, really?
Customer care, if you are not calling in their time frame, why would you ever expect it to answer you? Do all businesses where you live actually answer the phone when it is out of their business hours? You make it sound like Apple owes their life to you just because you spent money on it...
Gosh, you seriously make it sound like we forced you to buy an apple or something.

Just call 1-800-676-2775, let them know this is your first Mac and this experience hasn't been satisfactory. They'll help you get setup with a return label and computer swap. They're open Mon-Fri 5AM-8PM PST, Sat-Sun 7AM-4PM PST. As for iTunes, if you've got that music on an iPod--plug it in to your new Mac and it will ask if you'd like to transfer your purchases over. If you don't have an iPod with the music on it, try going to http://expresslane.apple.com and explaining the situation. Simply click to contact iTunes support (email) and ask if you can redownload your music purchases. Apps etc can be redownloaded without cost by simply clicking to Buy again. It won't charge you.

Apple customer service will go to great lengths to make you happy. Relax, even if you didn't get a newer MBP, you still have a GREAT machine!

I pay 20 bucks a month for my highspeed internet and can get free tech support for it 24 hours a day/7 days a week, but over 300 bucks for Apple Care only gives me half a day, mostly during working hours?

This is the biggest thing I have been looking at. Unless for some off the wall reason the 2010 revision is way too underpowered for the OP's uses, really I can't see why he's freaking out about not getting the new revision. The rumors for February's release have been around since before January, and actually it was damn near confirmed at the beginning of the Feb.

Of course it's nice to have the latest revision, but how many people actually *need* Sandy Bridge? Probably less than 20% of the Macbook Pro users.

Did you buy it knowing these terms?
Dude, if you think its such a major rip off, WHY DID YOU BUY IT?
oh wait, [douche] did you buy the applecare without looking at the hours just as you did with your macbookpro without searching in google? [douche/]

Edit: oh you said 20 bucks a month?
its 300 dollars for 3 years btw. so 300/36 is $8.333 dollars a month. so yea around the same proportion. Also, does your high speed internet give free replacements globally? I dont think so.

The difference is you only paid 9 USD per month for Apple Care, thus the cheaper service.

You can also use other means to contact Apple: http://www.apple.com/contact/
And you can return the Mac.

Know that you can do something, besides complaining.

As far as the smudges on the screen from the keyboard, it's a common occurence when people stuff the computer into a tight backpack etc. I'm not saying you did this, just that if you do put it in any kind of bag etc., be aware of any pressure that may be inadvertently applied to the closed lid.

I can't believe that if you say you researched, you didn't come across anything about the new macbook pro. If you came to macrumors anytime in the past few weeks, there was surely a 2011 MBP thread that was active in the new post section.

As said before, you have options that you can do that will make you happy instead of complaining about it.
