Just ordered the 13" + 256GB + 1.8GHz! Wanted the 256GB since I'll be using this machine to do a lot of work and will be dual booting Lion with Windows 7. I could probably get by on 128GB, but I don't like to "manage" my storage like that. With 256GB, I can pretty much forget about the SSD and just use the machine.
As for the 1.8GHz: Well, the performance difference will hardly be large, but it wasn't all that expensive in the grand scheme of things anyway. I intend to keep the machine for a long time, so might as well make the best of it.
I'm not worried about any power consumption disadvantages compared to the slower CPU model. The 100MHz difference in clock frequency is small enough that natural variations in the chips' power consumption can cancel it out. The extra cache might make a very small difference, but still not enough to be concerned about.
EDIT: BTW, the shipping date was estimated to July 29... Located outside Gothenburg, Sweden.
EDIT: Ohh, and please don't talk as if the i5 and i7 are two completely different CPUs. In this case, they're not. In fact, they're exactly the same physically. The i7 that will go into my Air might come from the same wafer as an i5 that goes into another Air. The only thing they've done on the i7 is clock it 100MHz higher and not disable any of the L3 cache. It's a little wacky that Intel would differentiate them by putting them in different product lines, when they're so extremely similar (they even support the exact same feature set). But hey, that's how this business works sometimes!
