FYI... just got a shipment confirmation email from Apple for a base model 13". Did 1-day shipment, delivered by 10:30am tomorrow (Thursday).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/9A5259f Safari/6533.18.5)

Ordered mine with one day shipping here in uk. Shipped and scheduled to be here tomorrow

MBAIR 13.3/1.7/4/128FLASH ordered at 10 a.m. EDT today, with extra $10 for overnight shipping.

Apple's acknowledgement email didn't arrive until 3:14 p.m. EDT.

But the shipping notification arrived at 5:35 p.m. EDT, with the machine being shipped at 4:16 p.m. CDT (5:16 p.m. EDT) from Nashville and scheduled for FedEx delivery by 3 p.m. Thursday, July 21, in Tallahassee, Fla.

The apple store in University Village (Seattle) let me buy one early. I ended up getting the 11" one with 4GB of ram and 128GB SDD. It's a great little machine and it's super fast.

looks like i have to go there to get one. i tried the tac. mall apple store and they said tomorrow. mybe ill try the southcenter one first

I placed my order at 10:10 AM PDT, have yet to receive shipment confirmation. I ordered higher of two base configs (11.6"). Still shows delivery date of 7/21-7/22. Also, I did next day shipping.

I ordered the 11.6 with 4GB, 256BD SSD, and i7!!!

I have received the confirmation email that says it will be delivered July 27-July29!!

I am pumped!

Earlier in the week I made myself two promises
  1. I wouldn't buy a MBA on launch day
  2. I wouldn't get in any arguments on MR for at least a month.

So here we go with two broken promises.

First promise

Ordered 13" MBA with the 256GB SSD and the 1.8GHz i7 processor.

Second promise
Switch it to the i5 1.7. You won't get any noticeable performance increase with the i7 but you'll have worse battery life and a hotter computer.

Bassed on what? The i7 2677m and the i5 2467m are both 17w max TDP CPU's. If both CPU's have the same thermal efficiency why would one run hotter or be more power hungry than the other? Until I see benchmarks that prove otherwise my guess would be that the difference in heat and battery life will be negligable. In average day to day use the performace delta may not be noticable but if your using an app which takes advantage of the i7's higher clock speed and larger cache than I'd argue that the performance difference will be noticable. Whether or not the increased performace is worth an extra $100 is a matter of personal choice.

If you have seen benchmarks that show otherwise please share them, but if your choice to switch is based on perception rather than quantifiable evidence please state it as such. If you don't believe the performance delta between the i5 and i7 is worth the difference in price I can respect that, I questioned it myself, but I think your doing the forum a diservice if you post your power consumption/heat/performance logic as fact without any quantifiable evidence to back it up.

OK, so despite my good intentions I've increased my dept and proven once again that I'm an arogant SOB, all in a single day. It feels good to have life back to normal.

Just received order confirmation for base 13", will deliver on 22nd July.

I too was going to hold off until next week but resisting the urge would take up far too much energy!

Ordered wireless keyboard, trackpad and Airport Extreme as I am switching totally to Mac having resisted for so long. The HE discount helped pay for the accessories.

The weekend will be sweet.

Darn, I was going to stop by there and pick one up. Oh well, tomorrow it is.

Ordered the 13" "ultimate" to replace the 11" "ultimate" I've had only since January. Should be delivered next week sometime.

Sold my 11" today, with Lion pre-installed for the user. :)

When you order online from the education store, do you have to show proof that your a student, like give a student number?

I belive that Apple verifies student eligability by giving you a test.

The first question is "What is the square root of pi?"
If you answer 1.77245 they know that you are either college educated or understand how to use Google.

The second question is "Why did the chicken cross the road?"

Beware, the answer is not "To get to the other side." If you give that answer they will know you still retain common sense and have therefore never attended an institute of higher education.

The correct higher education answer for "Why did the chicken cross the road?" is in fact
"To overcome the socio-economic disparity between the life norms and ideals impossed upon us by corporate America and the agrarian cooperative reform emerging in the Bolivian rain forests".

Hi! This is my first post but I've been visiting the forum for some time.

I ordered the 11" with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD. It will arrive tomorrow, thursday, in Sweden. This is my first Mac so I will be using Win 7 for some time before I'm familiar with OSX. The cheapest model would have been enough, but space is always good to have!

It's sad that the battery life is shorter this time but I guess I can live with that. I always want as much power as possible but can never think of a moment when I really need all the hours. And there is no other computer with 11" screen that is as cool as the Air! :)

For what it's worth, when I included an Ethernet-usb cable as part of the laptop's configuration, the predicted shipping/delivery date ranged into next week. When I re-configured the computer to omit the cable but just added the cable separately to the laptop order (as a separate item on the same order), the shipping/delivery date advanced to no later than Friday.

That makes no real sense, of course, but it could be an explanation for some of the slower shipping/delivery times we're seeing here.

Update: Still no shipping notice or confirmation. Just says Jul 21-22 delivery on my order status page "not yet shipped". Ordered at 9:53AM PDT, 13" 256GB, i5.

Just ordered mine a few hours ago: Ultimate 13 inch, Applecare, HP Photosmart Wireless Printer and £65 BTS voucher with university discount.

It will be a late birthday present (my birthday's tomorrow!!!), from my mum and dad. :)

They say it'll be one day shipping, but - well, it's the UK.

I ordered 22 minutes after the MBA 2011 was available in the Apple online store a MBA 11" CTO with 4GB RAM, 256 GB flash storage, 1.8 GHz dual core i7. Can't wait to get this little cutie. It will make a nice travel laptop as I don't want to carry around my top of the line 2011 MBP 15" i7 everywhere I go. I always buy the top model because it lasts longer and the resell value is higher.

Ordered an entry level 13" with overnight. Hoping it will be in tomorrow. I need to take my mind off something depressing. At least the rote action of configuring a new machine may let me do that. Either way tomorrow or Friday is fine. I just hope this machine is actually worth it after returning a dented 13" mbp and giving up on the iMac (built a hackintosh that's much much faster.)

Man, it's wild to see how many people actually went for the i7 "upgrade."

It's your computer after all though, congratulations to all soon-to-be owners of the new MacBook Air. =)
