As described above the same scenario applied to me too. I received it on Monday and the new model was announced on Tuesday. I called Apple (Singapore) and the upgrade was a no brainer. Price is quite equal and it is the latest rather than the previous version. I assume the 14 days return policy if ordered online from Apple applies to all countries, right?

I just received my refurbished iMac yesterday with following specs:

27 Inch
Intel Core I7 3.4GHZ
16 GB Ram
GTX 680MX 2MB

Price 2,289.00

If I was to send back my computer for a refund the new one would cost me for same config:

$2,799.00

Is it worth it to send back my current one as I don't do online gaming. I use my Imac for web browsing, emails, and personal stuff and I run Parallels so I can run a windows program using Confluence mode. Any advice from anyone. I bought this computer to replace my 5 year old Imac that was starting to freeze on me all the time when I opened too many programs. I tried everything to fix it but I assume hard drive and video card had issues. It was time for me to upgrade.

Thank you

Jeff

PS I used Migration tool and my new Mac is running like a charm

I ordered one with 780M and fusion drive. With EDU discount its CHF 2,170.00 or 1763.38 EUR. Very competitive price if you ask me ;)

Why did you buy the 680MX then? The base 21 or 27 model will be more then enough for your needs for years to come.

I cannot imagine that the new version will be worth the price difference. Personally I did the upgrade because the price different is minor and I get a larger SSD for it. The only way to make it look better for you would be to order the new one with 8 GB instead of 16 GB and to buy 2 x 4 or 2 x 8 GB somewhere else for significant less money. This would reduce the gap between the two options slightly.

I bought the new one with specs as per my post as it was refurbished with decent specs. I run all the time Skype, A twitter App, Slingplayer, Safari and email and a windows program is open all the time in confluence mode running Parallels 9.0. When I was running this on my 2009 Imac 27 inch I had freezing all the time. So I upped my specs and its fast and working like a charm now.

lots of people i see ordered the i7 instead of i5...it is a difference?

It depends on what you do. I do a lot of video processing, which can take advantage of the 8 threads on the i7, so that is the CPU model I buy.

I just got my new iMac in the mail few days ago :( should i return it for the new one ?? can i even do that ?? also is there really a huge difference between them.

Main difference will be 802.11ac wireless and a faster, PCIe-based SSD.

Is it worth it to send back my current one...

I'd stay with the refurb.

Thank you for your help. I don't use wireless my Imac is wired into my time capsule using an ethernet cable. No gaming for me just work and personal computing. The dollar savings for me $576.00 with tax is nice too

I'd keep what you have, BUT... check the refurb store now and see if the same computer you ordered is now available for a lower price than what you paid. If it is, call Apple and get a price adjustment. They do that within a certain period of time, I think it's 14 days. I ordered a refurb iPad last year and then they reduced the refurb prices a few days later. I called and they credited the difference back to my credit card with no questions asked.

Yes the price was lowered by $90.00 and they now have none left with my configuration but they credited back my credit card the money.

Thank you

ordered the new imac 27 with i7 3.5, 8gb, 1tb fusion and 780m graphics should be here for pickup on october 8th. Can't wait. Got a really good friends and family discount too so that helped a lot. ordered memory upgrades will test if i am ok with 24gb but might just get another 16gb set and make it 32gb instead.

After much wait and ravings on this for, I am hopefully ordering a 27 imac (with the i7 processor, 16gb ram, 3tb fusion, 4gb nvidia card and wired numerical keyboard) tomorrow with a 360 dollar discount. That's if I can get out of my bed as I got the flu. I have been tortured so much first having no desktop since May, now I cannot even get out of bed to buy it lol.

27-inch iMac
3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
3TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5

Delivery: Oct 9th - 11th

First :apple:, switching over from PC. Hope to god its worth it because the pricing alone was nuts. A free upgrade to Mavericks would be appreciated :)

I finally pulled the trigger. My first new Mac since the fall of 2006, and my first all-in-one. Since the Mac Pro is going the way of external desk clutter and I never really needed its power, I've very reluctantly ended my days as a pro-tower-only Macintosh user.

I was originally going to go with 32GB RAM from OWC, but I don't need more than 16GB, and if I didn't order at least 16GB from Apple I would be stuck with those 4GB chips.

From Apple:

3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
3TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
Apple Mouse
Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (English) & User's Guide
Accessory Kit

From OWC:

4.0TB OWC Mercury Elite Pro 7200RPM 64MB (for Time Machine)
OWC Mercury Pro 16X External Multi Interface Blu-ray/DVD/CD
Newer Technology FireWire 800 1394B 9 Pin to 9 Pin FireWire Cable 72"
Newer Technology FireWire 800/400 1394B/A 9 Pin to 6 Pin FireWire Cable 72"

And I got the Thunderbolt to FireWire adaptor at the Apple Store this morning!

Total cost: $3,598.58

I ordered an
iMac 27"
i7 cpu
Gtx 780m 4GB ram
1 TB Fushiondrive
8 GB ram, I will upgrade the ram later on.

Main thing for me is the graphic card.. Gonna play some games on the iMac.

Didnt know if i should get i5 or i7. But since the computer costs a lot already and i want it to be future prof, I went for the i7.

I ordered my very first iMac 8 days ago. I then panicked (not literally!) when I saw the new computers 2 days later. I wasn't sure if I'd get the new spec so I cancelled the original order and placed an order for the new model.

I've ordered a 27" iMac in standard configuration except for a 1TB Fusion drive and I've been given a delivery date of 3rd-7th October.

My daughter, an Apple fangirl to the core, will be crying into her muesli every morning for a week when she finds out what I've bought. As for me, I've got an iPad and an iPod Touch but never used an Apple computer. The next few weeks should be fun!

Have this on order:

27-inch iMac

With the following configuration:

• 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
• 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X4GB
• 512GB Flash Storage
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2GB GDDR5

After reading this thread, I am now concerned that I did not get the i7. It seems almost everyone here got the i7.

I didn't get the i7 either. Unless you have a very specific application for hyperthreading, you won't be able to tell the difference.

I've been going though these forums to decide on a Mac mini spec and have noticed that the price for a fusion drive upgrade has just gone down by £40 (uk)...was +£200 now +£160

My new (and very first) iMac arrived today :). I'm stunned! It is absolutely incredible. My Windows PC now looks like a pile of poo. I've never used a Mac of any kind before so I guess I've got a bit of a learning curve ahead of me.

My keyboard has got a slight dent in the casing...looks like it hit something! One phone call to Apple and a new keyboard has already been dispatched to me.

i ask because for my work i dont need but for my kid who play some games do we need i7 for that?

I doubt the CPU upgrade would make much difference, if it's serious gaming s/he's into, your money would be better spent on a GPU upgrade to the 780M, or they should get a PC as the gaming experience would be vastly better. What sort of games would they be playing?

The only reason I got the i7 was for hyper-threading which the i5 doesn't have.
