My brother had his broken iPhone 6+ display replaced using the genuine Apple part, by our local independent iPhone repair shop. They made an appointment so he could wait, it only cost $68. They did a perfect job, it's impossible to tell it was replaced. Pretty impressive.

Two screws and a clip. Anyone could do it.

Applecare+ is silly to me. I guess it's for clumsy people though. I don't use a case and I have never broken an iPhone.

Accidents can happen to a person with an iPhone through no fault of his or her own. Hardware can go bad after the first year through no fault of the person with an iPhone.

Just because a person gets AppleCare+, that doesn't necessarily mean said person is clumsy.

Just because you have never had a problem doesn't mean others won't.

Get down from your high horse and look up logical fallacy.

You mean they replaced it with something they claimed was the genuine Apple part. What you actually got was either a knockoff or a pull.

Since Apple doesn't sell parts to anyone, that's what actually happened.

do I need to back up my data ?

If your iPhone gets stolen on the way to repair, you better have a backup. Or if it gets stolen on the way back from the repair. Or at any other time. You just need to turn backups on, and it will happen automatically whenever the phone is plugged in and connected to WiFi.

but my last backup will be tomorrow morning...

what will I lose from tomorrow morning until tomorrow night?

There should be a "backup now" button.

I wouldn't say something like that.... It could drop and break today

Since Apple doesn't sell spare parts, your brother was fooled. And now he probably has a glass display and not a gorilla glass on his iPhone.

Not in my experience, at least with my 5S. They said because there appears to be a point of impact, they won't cover it

Good point. If there's a telltale point of impact, that alone voids the warranty regardless if there's a crack. That's why members have reported being turned down for warranty services if they find a point of impact.

so pissed right now...

dropped it as I was getting out of my car and the screen cracked. Will Apple fix it? If so, how much?

Why don't you have a case on it? That would have not happened if you people would use a CASE! A $34 case is better than a payment of +/- $200 that apple charges. I recommend the Tech21 series. If you don't get a case to protect your investment, then you'll be paying $$$$ for repairs. You'll eventually learn...

If you had a case on the phone then ignore the above statements
