yeah I know guys, I shouldn't scam apple - I love apple and own significant amounts of AAPL stock (which I bought and trade internationally at significant cost), but I was just so desperate. I also knew that for apple the fixing process would be minimal due to only the headphone connection being broken.

As stated before, I was going to sell the replacement, but now, after serious amounts of disinfectant, I will continue to use my current ipod touch, and probably buy a new 3G iphone when it comes out anyway.

Also can anyone honestly say they have never brought their ipods into the toilet?

So...does you iPod not smell like sh**? That's just nasty. Then...what if a friend wants to see your iPod, being fascinated with the touch screen and all? Are you going to tell them you dropped it in sh**? Dang that's nasty. You nasty son of a...:D

OMG, that's totally awesome XD I would have thought it'd break. You're so freaking lucky o.o

Heh, I guess I'm the only one who does that  I tend to find an excuse to replace my cell with a new shiny one

Trust me, you're not the only one. Duke seems like a pretty moral and upstanding man, but I think most of the general population aren't to that extent. I love Apple as a company, but if they sent me a new MacPro by accident, I definitely wouldn't be calling them up and informing them of their error.

It's brown, they wouldn't know it had been dropped in a toilet... all they would know is that it doesn't work :D.

Haha, good point.

haha this is awesome! I love how the most replies I've ever got on a post on macrumors has been the result of dropping an apple product in the s**tter!

But still I'm amazed how much controversy this has caused. I am against scamming of course, but you too would be desperate when your 4 week old ipod touch no longer outputs sound. Desperate times call for desperate measures. As I also stated, this was a temporary state of mind, and I quickly came to my senses and realised it was entirely my fault.

I can assure everyone that the ipod is completely clean, and there is no smell or residue remaining (that I can see or smell). I have been using my ipod touch normally again (except not on the toilet!) and I have not yet contracted any serious bacterial diseases...

I'm also glad at this point how anonymous the internet is. Kind of an embarrassing story to share with over 1000 people. When I've been telling friends about it, I've just said I dropped it in the sink....less shameful.

Top tip for anyone who drops any electronics device in water (or gets it wet):

fill a plastic tub with dry rice and bury the device in the rice for about 24 hours.

The rice should soak up any moisture in the device.

NEWS FLASH!!

Man chokes on iPod while eating a tub of rice...

lucky

Well, you were very lucky. Once, I had my ipod touch on my pocket and my cousin trying to be funny dropped a glass of water over my pants. Well I thought it would be fine and left it there, but then when I got home I took it out of my pocket to charge it and it wouldn't turn on. Thankfully my dad got the bestbuy warranty and they didnt even bother to check the little sensor thing (it was partially pink). In two days I received a refurbished ipod by mail. It said refurbished but it looked like new, unscratched and everything.:apple:

I always take my touch to poop. Thankfully I have never dropped it in.

The only downside for the Itouch is the rear side. Besides that it is an very capable and resistant device. I once dropped it from 5 foot, I freaked out of course but it wasn't damaged!!

so what if the apple store had taken the dropped one and refurbished it? someone would've ended up w/ a doo-doo touch..To all refurbished touch owners, wash your hands..

This story gives me hope about dropping my new iphone in the toilet (when it happens) like i dropped me blackberry in the toilet twice, after I finnished gross I know, but I lysoled it a bunch and it still worked both times, I will sell it on ebay when I get new iphone 3g, so look out people for a BB comming from Louisiana. ;)

Hey all,

Yesterday afternoon I was using the bathroom (to put it politely) and watching an episode of 'The Office' on my beautiful ipod touch. I know - stupid, foolish me, but I have become so attached to it, that I get bored even taking a s*** without the constant entertainment only 'The Office' can provide.

So when I stood up after I was done, I unplugged the headphones, and in my rush to get ready for work (I was late), the ipod slipped out of my hand and fell in the bowl. Unfortunately, my gut reaction was to save it, so I plunged my hand into the fairly dirty water (as I'm sure you can imagine), and pulled out my precious ipod. I quickly ran over to the handtowl and wiped all the water off.

I had no choice but to go to work, and so I couldn't check if it still worked. When I got home later that night, I rushed back over to where I had left it to dry, and when I plugged in the headphones, no sound came out!! I was panicking now! I can't live without my :apple: touch! So I made a plan to go down to the local apple reseller the next day to *hopefully* get replacement one under warranty.

It was then I found out about the water mark thing at the bottom of the headphone jack to show when there has been water damage. I am prepared to admit that I did the trick where I cut a small piece of white paper out and stuck it down the jack to disguise the water damage mark.

When I woke up this morning, I was about to go down to the apple store when I thought I would try it one more time. Lo and Behold, the sound is now working perfectly. Lucky for me, that was the only defect from the water.

Although this is good, I had kindof planned to get a new replacement from Apple for the damaged ipod, then sell it on ebay as new for close to retail price, then when the 3G iphone comes out in Australia in a month, I would buy that with the money. Oh well.

The point of this post is the show that the ipod touch is almost impenetrable! This thing is an absolute beast. The screen won't scratch when I put it in my pocket with my keys, and it still works after dropping it in the toilet!! :D

Now I just have to stop using my MBP on the toilet...

LULZ... same thing happened to my ipod but I accidently dropped some gasoline on it, and I quickly dried it off. AND its still working perfectly

The office is a great show and I tend to do the same thing. Why did itunes take the office out of the store?
