You have ditched your car for a laptop.....
I hope you don't ditch the wife for a Mac Pro....:D

Why not? Sounded like the OP doesn't really need the car that much, and this is the best time of year to sell a something like a bronco up north. Don't make the mistake of judging someone else's choices; tends to make one look immature and foolish.

didn't judge his life choice, but that he sold a means for transportation to buy a portable item. It'd make more sense if he bought an imac or something.

Don't jump to conclusions, you'll just make a fool of yourself. Woops, guess that's too late.

Wow a lot of people here are acting extremely pathetic. A LOT of people these days are ditching cars in favor of other forms of transportation, -- believe it or not the majority of the world still doesn't even OWN a car. If that's feasible for someone why the hell shouldn't they if they so choose? What does it matter what he spends it on? A MBP is just as good an investment if not a better one than furniture, books, clothes or any of a number of things he could have spent it on.

The decisive factor should be whether the end result is pleasurable enough to have warranted the money spent. And if it is, leave them alone. It's different for everyone.

its plausible.. i mean there is a dude in Japan who got married to a pillow of this hot anime babe.. so he might ditch his poor wife (how horrid) for a a machine thats got drives and an "on/off button" <= hahahaha..

lol to the OP sry for that comment.. but why would you do that.. you should've kept the car, and worked a little harder? you still have three months..

wait wait all of you are laughing because he selling his car for a laptop..well obviously that's not a wise decision but i'm sure he has a reason but...

i can't think of anyone on the whole planet who actually "NEED" a max out 17'' Macbook Pro with Sandy Bridge unless he is god.

Chances are, a souped up 17' macbook pro will make the guy more productive, happy, and more money than his car ever did.
Riding a bicycle (healthy), or taking public transport (economical and environmentally friendly) are worthy tradeoffs for the chance to buy a beautiful technological tool like a Macbook.

IMO Wise investment. :apple:

How isn't it a wise choice? Who defines what is wise and what isn't? Isn't the criteria different for each person? Furthermore a car is not any more necessary in many situations than a decent computer. And actually, in many, the alternatives will improve your way of life

it ran fine but was highly inefficient - 13 mpg (ford bronco).

i just decided i'd rather have a new computer than a car. it was just a good time to sell it now rather than later because there happen to be a lot of people in the small towns surrounding memphis who start looking for a 'hunting vehicle' about this time of year.

i still have my bicycle though so i should be fine, although i bet i'm gonna hate it when it gets colder...

LOL.... I'd never get away with that. With my luck, we'd have an early blizzard.

Hmmm. Maybe that makes sense. Inasmuch as the Eternal and Uncreated have experienced everything ahead of time, existing in all of time at the same time being the nature of the existence of the Great I AM, I suppose that He or They would know if it was something to have.

Is this thread even supposed to be here in the MBP section in the first place?
i don't see why not. it's better than having another 'should i buy now or wait' thread isn't it?

you should've kept the car, and worked a little harder? you still have three months..
for the record, i tried that already. i have two jobs (bartending and catering) and at the end of each month after all my bills are paid (rent, utilities, phone, and internet) i would typically only have around $200 left at most. then after food, gas and other miscellaneous things there wasn't ever much left of that savings. i live in a small 2 bedroom apartment with a roommate.

i was actually trying to save up for a high end 17" arrandale last year, when i joined these forums, but when april rolled around i had nothing - and i'm not a huge consumer. i rarely buy things that i don't need.

i do because i don't know when the next time i'll be able to afford a new computer will be. like i said, i'm using a powermac g5 right now that i actually bought with student loan money. it got me through school and that was great, but now i need a more powerful machine to get my career as a digital artist moving. i do animation, video, sound design, and a lot of other stuff plus a little gaming on the side and i need a capable machine that will last at least 5 or 6 years like my g5 did.

plus i've thought about it before, and it's possible that i am god.

I can. Everyone I know that does high end resource intense design does. I'm sure since this is a big priority, the OP does. Let's not forget Apple knows it's market well, or they wouldn't offer one.

You could sell your bike and buy some toys to go along with it. Then you can walk.

i had to laugh at the title. But, after reading the post it makes perfect sense. Ignore some of these people
Good choice. I am sure you will love it when you get it!
There are definitely people that can use the power... wow.

I don't have a car anymore, because what's the point when you live and work in the city. It's only more costs and it's not fast in traffic jams. I don't see the point why people laugh he doesn't have a car.

Subway > car :D

Perhaps when I move out of the city, i'll consider a car again.

You realize that sandy bridge won't be released by intel until 2011 and even then apple will have to update its computer line and who knows when they will be. My point is you'll be without a car for anywhere between 2 to 6 months

Basically this. While intel may reveal Sandy Bridge chips at CES and release them to OEM, Apple still has to get them, put them in systems, test them, produce them, etc. You're in for a disappointment if you were expecting a new MBP in January.

You Sir are a legend and i salute you!

this cant have been a 2 second sod it decision - and if you've put thought into it then fair play to ya - i dont drive at all its either local transport of my legs and i've got by perfectly fine.
