This is my experience as well. Both my SS and Natural Ti remain flawless.

I am interested in all the comments and pictures about how "soft" the Ultra Ti is ...

I am not a metallurgist (unless my Music library qualifies me as such ), but isn't titanium all the same?
It’s soft. After 4 days I had 2 scratches that were easily seen in normal conditions. After 5+ years of SS I had zero major scratches (all of which could be buffed in less than a few mins if you cared to).

Good luck!

Strange. For me the solo loop is too loose on the ultra. Perfect for the series 8 though
Same. The case is larger so the band has a larger distance between the two points. Mine is almost too loose.

I’m not sure what you mean by serious athlete. Plenty of athletes can and do use Apple Watches.

It has at least 3x the battery life of my S7. I’m sure it depends on how you use it.

Oh I've been to the store a few times and tried it on. Pretty sure I wouldn't return it.

That said, I'd probably keep the AW8. When then puts me in the world of having 2 AWs - one will no doubt get less use than the other. I'm fine with multiple mechanical watches... a 2 smartwatch life sits a bit weird with me.
I always have two watches - a day watch and a night watch. Currently my Series 7 stainless steel is my day watch and my Series 4 Nike black aluminum is the night watch. I ordered the Ultra and will switch between the Series 7 and the Ultra depending on the day.

Battery life for me was 1.5-1.8x the S7 at best. What I meant was for people who need a watch to last for 3-4+ days without power. The Ultra is not that watch - forget about the missing metrics etc.

If you use LTE you’ll be lucky to get up to 24 hours with the Ultra… LTE kills my S7 (60% for about 2+ hours) and my Ultra was about (75%) - before I returned it of course.

I understand that, but I think it also fails to miss where the Ultra benefits users over the Series 8. Battery life is easily double to triple, display is twice as bright, larger newer design. Sometimes we just buy things for the fun of new tech, and that’s ok too.
I actually think screen size is one of the major reasons a lot of people go for the more expensive product.

Look at the MBA VS MBP, and how many people bought the more powerful MBP beyond their stated needs because they wanted that 16” screen.

The Ultra is nice. But it's also first generation. I wonder if there will be a smaller version released next year. I have the Hermes Series 7 and have a bunch of watch bands, so I can't justify splurging on a new watch when mine works just fine for my needs.
I would say not. Not until they’re able to give the exact same performance, or better, in a smaller size.

Hermès are superb. I’m still squeezing life out of my S6 because I can’t let go of those faces!

Just get it and if anything, right now you have until Jan 8th to return anything purchased at Apple due to holidays and their extended return policy lol

It is a solid watch for sure

Still don't know what a serious athlete is, that the Ultra isn't good enough for. Works for me as someone who is about 15% body fat, works out 3-5 times per week, and is active outdoors.

Battery life is not 1.8, 1.2 or just a little better, its at least 3x better than the S7.

The screen is significantly brighter. There is no argument there.

I have no visible scratches since putting it on my wrist and its being worn 90% of the day every day no matter what I'm doing. If I got a micro lens, and blew the case up 10x maybe we'd find something, although I'm not really sure what the point is of doing that.

People may not like the style but its odd how its become a love hate thing.

Main point is … you won‘t really know before you try for yourself. You need to see and feel the Ultra on your own wrist. Not for 5 minutes in a store, but for a few days in your normal life. Then you‘ll know if the Ultra is for you. It‘s ok if it‘s not (and you can always send it back), but I bet it will be.

Personally I can try a watch on and know instantly if it’s for me or not. The Ultra is such a large watch, it’s appeal is going to be limited to people with larger wrists or those that like oversized watches. There is going to be a significant segment out there that won’t like the Ultra or need the additional sports features it offers. That’s the beauty of a product range that covers more than one product.

Coming from AW6 40MM to Ultra was a huge change for me. When I was in the store and tried 44mm, I thought it's gonna look big on my wrist and I went for 40mm. I felt that it's fine. So, when I ordered Ultra, I thought it's gonna look too large on my wrist. And it did felt like that on the first day. But later the size did grew on me. Now, when I use my AW6 at home, I feel that it is too small and I don't understand how I could use such a small watch for two years! 🤣

Reminds me of when I found an old case for my iPhone 3G. Holy hell that thing was small.

Well there is a significant segment of people that want the larger Ultra which is why there are more threads about it than any watch edition ever.

This is an Apple enthusiast site. Just because the Ultra suddenly has a lot of threads does not mean that is a metric for it being the most popular Apple Watch ever. The cheapest Apple Watch will always be the most popular for obvious reasons, it’s market outreach is significantly larger. The Ultra is £849 and very large so it’ll be popular amongst select people who are happy with both those factors. Not to mention not everybody needs a dive computer right now.

This is not specifically about getting the Ultra, but shopping in general. If I hesitate on purchasing something, and I keep going back and forth without committing, then something in my heart tells me no. So perhaps you already have a good Apple Watch. And you really can't justify this purchase.

Same boat!! It’s 100% want. My S7 is fine. I won’t use ANY of the new outdoor features. I just like new things. I’d have it by now if it was in stock.
Having to order and wait is what’s changing my mind.
A lot of tech purchases are want > need. I mainly wanted the Ultra for the battery, brighter screen, ruggedness, and looks ( which I much prefer to the pillow shaped design of prior AWs) . Very happy coming from the AW4, but that battery was showing its age. Did I need it? No, I lived most of my life without an Apple Watch like most humans and I did fine. Without the Ultra, I would have kept the AW4 another year and found a way to drop on a charger during the day.

I kept my AW4, which I have in one of those stands that look like an old Mac. I doubt it will ever see my wrist again, though.

I keep adding it to my cart and then deciding I don't want it... over and over again.

Found it in stock today. Came close to committing. Then, cold feet.

Pretty sure I want it because I'm bored.

It sure looks cool and different.

Tomorrow I will commit.

Maybe.
If you are not sure, maybe wait and see how you feel in a few days.
And if possible visit an Apple store to see one and get a feel for whether you feel it is right for you.
It is a big purchase if you are not sure.

I still have my trusty S3, still working well with a few minor scratches. I already decided that, even if I’m not an heavy AW user, it was about time time to upgrade since series 3 will not be supported anymore.
I went on for a while unable to decide between the Ultra and the regular S8 for the same exact reason already discussed here.

Then Black Friday and yesterday I bought a new… 45 mm Series 7 for an incredible price from Amazon (direct not a reseller). Simply too good an offer that it was a no brainer lol

Waiting for delivery Monday (they probably sold thousands in a few hours so delivery times are getting longer) with a bit of trepidation, fearing Amazon will contact me saying that the price was a mistake and they cancelled the order.

You'll get a bigger screen, AOD, louder speakers, etc etc. Enjoy it!
