The "tonight" becoming a calendar link feature has not been around for years, it's new to iOS 7.

No it isn't. I promise you. You may not have noticed it before or it may have been less widely implemented or whatever but that ability has been knocking around in IOS for years.

And if you're implying that Apple, even if they had a way of knowing for sure the exact number of people who used a certain feature, bases all or any of their arrogant and forceful design choices on the consumer's best interests/desires, that's absolutely ridiculous. They have proven time and again they don't care a bit and will do what they want. That is most people's biggest complaint about them as a company.

Chip on your shoulder much? You'd think they'd poked you in the eye rather than just had the "arrogance" to offer a feature that you don't personally happen to use.

Oh I didn't realize that. Never had "tonight" underlined before. What iOS version did it start in?

And sorry if I sounded harsh, I just hate some of Apple's forceful practices and intrusive/poor design choices that they give you no ability to change.

I think before IOS 7 it was probably only present in the mail application, but it makes perfect sense for the behaviour to be consistent, and it is useful for some of us. I forget which version it started in but google shows it going back years.

I don't agree that it's a "poor design choice" and giving people hundreds of options over tiny features like this would just get irritating in my view. IOS is not designed to be a super customisable OS, never was, if that's what you want there are alternatives.

This was mostly about Messages in which "tonight" is used far more than it is in Mail.

Giving users the basic option to turn intrusive and distracting features off is not a "hundred different options". If you feel this way then by default it should not be a feature as most people do not use it.

There are more important and useful options that aren't offered and more people would rather see than even this.

And honestly this is not intrusive and barely distracting. I'm not against an option to control it, but it's much much less of a deal than even a few posts let alone so many about it.

Yeah fair point, there are many things that are way worse

Have you also noticed that when it brings up a suggested replacement word, you can no longer get rid of it by hitting a letter and then back spacing? You have to actually hit the little tiny x. Very annoying.
