Quote from the article:

Most of the orders will have come through network carriers across the world, based on customer pre-orders, upgrades and anticipated demand.

As expected, this is more link-bait. Sprint alone ordered 30+ million iPhones last October. As usual, we'll have to wait till an official announcement, of units "sold to customers" or Samsung's quarterly earnings call, where they cannot mislead the investors on things like this.

The S3 doesn't have to sell more units than the 4s because its quite clear its the superior device in every category. I am sure it will sell a ton though.

I actually don't mind phones getting bigger. In ten years, my vision will get weaker at close range. My Mom had 20/20 vision once and now needs to set to giant font in the texting app because her vision got so bad after age 40. But at this stage of my life and current age, the size of the current iPhone size is ideal to me.

I will adapt to the super-sized phones and lugging around a giant brick. It is like when I went from a Honda Civic coupe in my teens to BMW 3-series sedan in my early-20's to a Lexus SUV in my late-20's to accomodate a bigger family. When I started driving an SUV, I had a hard time adjusting at driving smaller cars again. Because life keeps changing and so is our idealism and needs. At this moment, I don't need a phone with a 65+mm width and 125+mm height. Hard to operate one-handed for me. But in time when the stages in my life changes, I may need a phone with 5.3-5.5+ inch screens and will have to get used to using it with two hands since my vision will get weaker as reach my 40's. You adjust with the current times in your life.

Never say never. Things change. People change. I can't be squinting at a 3.5-inch screen forever.

False. Android phones are up to 900,000 activations a day and its rising every month. If people were switching to iPhones, Apple would be gaining marketshare, not losing it.

Just because there are 900,000 android activiations a day doesn't mean it is necessarily eating into iPhone's user base. iPhones are the best selling smartphone. Don't forget there are hundreds, if not thousands of models of Android phones. Also most of that 900,000 would be crappy, slow $100 prepaid things.

Of course it is. That's why Apple is losing market share. You don't go from owning 54% of your market down to 36% in a year without losing quite a bit of your user base.

You can not conclusively state that they are losing their userbase, since the market as a whole is growing. If the market weren't growing, then your statement would be true.

On the contrary, more people own iPhones now than ever before.

In any-case, the post you were replying to was saying more people who have no ties to Apple (never owning a MacBook for example) are buying iPhones as their first Apple device. This is growing the Apple fanbase.

You people arguing over market share are idiots. Lemme break this down for you:

- People will always love iOS, it's simple, easy to use, and has great apps. How can people get a mobile device that runs iOS? An iPhone. That's their ONLY CHOICE. That's why Apple's mobile marketshare will always be lower than Android's. There aren't 100's of manufacturers making phones with iOS.

-Android's marketshare IS higher and IS rising - at a faster rate than Apple's btw. This is due to increased competition, multiple manufacturers producing Android devices, and a percentage of iPhone users switching to Android.

I own an iPhone 4S and use it as my main device; however it's frustrating to see so many clueless fruit heads on this forum that know NOTHING about what they are discussing. Oh by the way, if you don't believe that Apple is scared of the GSIII, look at the injunction that they threw at Samsung (it was denied by the judge btw, nice try Apple :p). Apple and Samsung own the game right now; if you people don't realize that then I don't know what to say :)

No its not. If it were, you would see that translating into sales of more Apple products. Windows still dominates PC and laptop sales by a HUGE margin. You think because some kid bought an iPhone he's going to turn around and drop $2k on a MBP when you can get a similarly spec'd laptop for less than half the price? No chance in hell.

Ok, what is your point?

That most of the 900,000 are crappy cheap prepaid things which aren't on the same level as the iPhone so they can't really be compared.

iPhone and android have very different marketing strategies.

Again, windows has a very different marketing strategy to apple. Mac sales are Growing faster then windows. Fact.

Get your facts straight.

Also find me this similaraly specd computer for more then half the price please. I'd be interested in checking it out.

Have you seen some of these new laptops coming out from PC manafacturers? They look like a carbon copy of apple laptops. Apple must be doing something right.

Wrong. Read the article I posted. Prepaid phones don't count as new activations. Pick pretty much any laptop around $1k and its going to have better specs and more features than a MBP

Where does it say prepaid phones don't count? All I could see which was relevant was this:
with an estimated 900,000 to one million people picking up a new Android device each day.

And as I said please show me this magical laptop which is more then half the price of the macbook pro and better spec'd.

Read Rubins definition of how they are counting activations. I said less than half the price.

You really need to take a business class, and a statistics class. These comments are insane.

I dont get it.
Since the S3 is so superior in every category why are you here posting and viewing an iphone forum hating so much on iphones, Macs and Apple in general?
Shouldnt you be at an Android site instead with other Apple haters alike?
Your comments are insane.

Well because I had a 4s up until a week ago when I sold it in favor of my Razr Maxx. Also have an iPad and iMac, so I am here a lot. Get used to it.

For the same reason Android "dominates" - they are CHEAP. For many people price alone is the deciding factor (sadly) leaving them with an inferior product and inferior user experience.

Lol... Reading the comments through this thread is hilarious. This thread should be published as the definition of brain washed.
