Face ID unlock has an extra splash screen.
there's no splash screen.. unless you want there to be.

but when i read that statement, it sounds like you think you have to wait for it to unlock prior to opening the phone..
you don't.

don't wait for the lock icon to change to unlocked.. just swipe up.
if it's seen your face already then cool, it opens.. if it hasn't seen your face yet, it will open when it does..

but don't wait on the 'splash screen' for it to do its thing.. if that's how you're using faceID then yeah, it will likely feel slower.

I feel that FaceID is superior; even if a little slower. I have not had many issues with unlock failures when actually using the phone. That coupled with a much higher level of security, I am very happy to pass on TouchID for now.

Faster?? Really?? Fake news!

No, it's not fake news. It's fact. The entire process of using FaceID both for unlocking my phone and for the additional usage benefits in apps is significantly faster. That, together with the lack of failed attempts makes it a significantly better technology.

Fact.

It’s just your opinion so lets just leave it at that. Nothing wrong with preferring Touch ID, but Face ID is a step forward and clearly the future.

I agree it’s great technology without a doubt, it’s amazing how far it has come but in reality it’s not quicker than Touch ID and I am referring to just unlocking the phone

speed wise not much difference at all and tonight i have managed for face ID to work ok on a desk. Not thats a deal breaker if it doesn't

FaceID is slower to unlock your phone, but it's faster and more handy to do anything else with your phone (like authenticating apps). If there only was a way to not have to slide up to unlock, it would be very close to the unlocking speed of TouchID.

The biggest issue is that FaceID doesn't work when you have it lying on a table 0,5 meter away from you. But in any other case I already prefer FaceID over TouchID. I've had so many issues with my left thumb (right thumb always works, left thumb only 25% of the time), that having FaceID, which for me has never failed yet in normal use, is a better experience.
I fully agree with this. On the table it leads to some annoying situations some times. But during use, for example for one password it’s just so cool!

Yes, the overall process of unlocking the phone is faster in real use. No having to find the home button, hope for good thumb placement and then do an additional press to get into home screen.

I simply pick up my phone and swipe from the bottom up. By the time the swipe has reached the top, FaceID has authenticated and I'm in. Couple that with a never fail rate and how anyone can honestly try to even remotely compare this to TouchID is laughable.

Not sure how you can say you have to find the home button for Touch ID like it’s difficult then go ahead and say pick up your phone and swipe from the bottom up. Uh...

I’m sure face Id will get even better. But for just simply unlocking your phone, Touch ID is way ahead. You grab and hold your phone with your thumb in that position almost 99 percent of the time.

I love Face ID. It’s (for me) the best bit about the X. I don’t have to interact with my phone with a button press/touch for it to “know” what I want and complete that action.

Eg you’ve picked up the phone and you’re looking at it means it’s time to unlock or you’re at a website that wants credentials. I’ll check it’s you and fill them in.

This works so seamlessly that it really gives it that special Apple quality to me.

love mines you all are nit picking like crazy. the swipe up enables you to view your NOTIFICATIONS! I can wait for apple to just enable a option to remove the swipe so y'all can complain about that too.

Face ID is so much more convenient. Not having to use my finger to read notifications on my lock screen, log into apps, have passwords automatically filled, etc. is worth the extra milliseconds it may take to unlock a phone on speed tests that have little to no weight in real world use. Having to use my finger every time I wanted to do one of those things became a nuisance.

I think Face ID is faster than Touch ID...including opening the phone. I just pull out my phone and swipe up. And at some point it must register my face cause I don’t notice it to be slower than Touch ID. The same if not a bit quicker.

Face is the only thing I hate about this phone. Touch ID was faster and had mode accuracy than face ID. I rarely had failed unlock attempts. But with face ID it is the norm.

And forget using Face ID while lying down.

Even when face ID works, you have to swipe up to unlock.

Honestly face ID was faster in my galaxy s8.

Not sure how you can’t understand what I wrote.

There’s no comparison. FaceID is superior in every way.

Eh. Maybe with some features. But for just unlocking your phone? No. Not at all. I could unlock my phone before looking at it. Just way quicker. But I’m sure face id will get there.

So you never checked your notifications? I’m sure Apple will add the option to go to the homescreen without the swipe as is available on other iPhones. Then it would be a wash.

The ratio is 100/1

Here is some magic and to debunk your claim, Having a Touch ID phone in pocket already unlocked before even pulling it out , can Face ID do that?

Of course I do. But more often then not I wanna get right into the phone.
Removing the swipe up would definitely speed things up. At least make it an option to turn on or off.

I can guarantee by the time both phones are ready to use both will be open. This is from experience. You can unlock it in your pocket and bring it to your face or you could swipe up out of the pocket and bring it to your face. Both will open at the same speeds. It just is what it is.

And to be honest it’s much easier to pull it out and swipe up. lol you are bringing up something I bet you don’t do, unlock a phone in the pocket.
