Sounds good! I suppose I'll get used to it once I start using it. It just strikes me as a weird thing to change, because it's not like I ever had to stop and think "Hmmm, which box do I type in?" One box was for search, and the other was for urls I already knew. Two totally separate things, at least in my mind.

As for the changes in iOS 7 UI, I'm very curious to see how the general public reacts to it once it comes out. Will they hate it, love it, or be indifferent? Interesting times ahead!

Agreed. I'll be sure to see what my older family members think. I personally think they'll love it, especially my mom. I find the numbers, like on the phone app and even the keyboard, easier to see (i'm in my 40s so my eyesight isn't quite the best anymore).

Regarding the search box, I used to use Safari on my desktop but switched to Firefox. I'm pretty sure Safari didn't have a separate search box either & I really grew to like that. On the phone it's appreciated because then you don't have two tiny little boxes.

I'm pretty sure it did because I used to use a tool called Safari Omnibar to actually make it one combined bar.

After buying the original iPad, I knew I needed an iPhone 4 (I think this was 2010?) Subsequently I converted my husband and children to iPhone as soon as Verizon offered it (we've used Macs for many years). Then we bought our parents iPad 2's and convinced them to switch from feature phones to iPhone. Unfortunately, this means that I am the person they call for each and every Apple technical issue. Most of the time the issue is with our parents, not Apple or the iPhone! :(

While I will switch to iOS 7 (probably will wait until 7.0.1 arrives), I can honestly say that I DREAD the day I will be forced to update their Phones/iPads to iOS 7. It will completely rock their world! I can just imagine the long-distance accusatory phone calls - it will somehow be my fault the OS has changed and they no longer understand how to navigate it. I will put it off until there is no alternative.

I don't get how iOS is any less intuitive to us than before.

These rich texture design freaks that need gradients and shadows and everything looking like a real world physical object must think people are stupid. In fact I know they do as I had a twitter argument with one of these guys from 9to5Mac who thinks Cook and Ive should be fired over iOS 7.

It's not changed just been bettered. Menus aren't changing ;-)

I bet you also argue with everyone you see driving an exotic car about how their beautifully designed cars are unnecessary, and that your 93 Corolla is all anybody ever needs to get from point A to B.

Design matters, and you simply do not get it.

For me iOS7 is just as easy to use as the previous versions. For my brother, 10 year old sister, 50 year old aunt, etc... We all used previous versions of iOS in the past, this is why we have no difficulty. However, someone who has never used iOS before may find iOS7 less intuitive. Due to this, I agree with OP, I wouldn't recommend iOS7. Steve knew what he was doing.

And so you would recommend Windows Phone 8 or Android? You find those OSs to be simpler?

I think you should re-read OPs opinion about iOS7 - I don't think he was trying to make anyone reach that conclusion.

YAWN my granma cant use the iphone anymore waahh its not user friendly! It doesnt look like her furniture anymore how can she relate

Do we really want iOS to exclusively cater to baby's first smartphone users?

iOS7 is still super easy to use, and at the same time looks sleek and modern.

I like how the status bar and the app are of the same colour now in iOS 7, it gives it a more unified look. In iOS 6 Apple tried a similar thing but it did not look completely the same colour, it was like a colour was layered on top of a black status bar, in iOS 7 though, status bar can really change the colour.

Why? The stock mail app is quite simple...in fact it's about as simple as the iOS one.

I wasn't using the mail app, I was entering the email account info in the app settings. And trying to connect the phone to our work wifi network, which has a rather unusual configuration. Entering all that info just felt more clunky than it does on iOS. Plus, I did all this once, then a few weeks later, my boss dropped his phone in water and had to buy a new one, and for some reason, none of this info was backed up, forcing me to do it all over again. I was like, if this were iOS, I could have restored from iCloud, and everything would go straight back to the way it was in the old phone! I understand there are ways to backup Android, but my boss had never made a backup, and trying to figure out how to make a backup when I don't use Android myself... I don't have the time to do it.

I think the OP has a point, not for people transitioning from iOS 6 to 7 but for those picking up an iOS device for the first time. Pretty much everyone here has used iOS. Yeah, you know where to click because you've been clicking there for years. The lack of a box around the target isn't an issue. But consider for a second someone who's picking up an iPhone for the first time. I do believe those users will have a harder time than one who picked up the same device running iOS 6.

My mother-in-law is going a smart phone (probably an iPhone) for the first time in the fall. She's been pretty happy with feature phones for years but is started to get interested in being able to see what her family is doing on Facebook and mobile messaging. MY father-in-law just switched to a sharing plan where the delay between her having an iPhone and a feature phone isn't really significant. I can totally understand how iOS 6 would be easier for her to start with than iOS 7.

To the guy whose 12 year old daughter made the switch, is that really a surprise? Kids are incredibly adaptable, and is part of a generation that's never lived without mobile computing devices. Try the same with a 50 year old housewife who's never used a smartphone or tablet.

I like the iOS look overall from the perspective of having a cleaner, more modern design. Part of that modern look is having fewer dependencies on familiar real-world concepts, though. Buttons don't always look like physical buttons, etc. Although that may be appealing to tech savvy individuals the same isn't necessarily true of those less comfortable with technology.

It is not a modern design, quite the opposite. It is an old design language that somehow as devices have become more powerful, and can display much more detailed realistic graphics, designers have decided to recycle a 60 year old flat design language. I don't get it.

You are right on about older, less tech savvy people and how adaptable kids are.

I've had some first hand experience with this and you stated it very well.

I'm sick and tired of these planes! It used to be that it took you years to get from coast to coast and you had to go in caravans... and some people died along the way just for fun. I want to remain in the past and continue to use old technology forever.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a cold and I need to attach a few leeches to my skin and take a tincture of Mercury.

Somehow simply the look of something doesn't quite fall under that. It'd be more like saying, "I'm sick and tired of flying airplanes with the old US Airlines logo, I really need to fly only in ones with the new logo on them because the new logo makes the plane look new and therefore it's somehow better/cooler, right?"

The more screenshots I see of iOS7 the more I hate it. Those look awful.

I agree with the OP. It's lost it's warmth, it doesn't seem to have that universal accessibility, polish or responsiveness that seemed to be the building blocks of iOS.

To me it has changed in a negative way, not saying anything about the design either way, the overall feeling I have towards it so far is "eh". Feels a lot like my previous android days to be honest.

It doesn't have that quality feeling to me at this point. It feels a lot less inviting, much more 'geeky' and less substantial if that makes sense. People in my family both young and old (11 - 63) have iOS devices, I'm hesitant about some family members reactions after they upgrade to iOS 7.
