So you had a lemon right out of the gate on your $3k+ laptop...
...that Apple replaced (obviously I hope, particularly at the markup Apple charges)...

...and you love it other than when actually using all the cores you paid for, which causes the fans to get too loud, so you shut down those features with software.

Wow - the bar being set for Apple by their own customers continues to lower.

Really enjoying this Mac. A lot of it comes down to USB-C and the near infinity battery life I can get when carrying around power banks. I'll happily give up MagSafe for that.

And while the fans do come on a lot, it can maintain a good amount of sustained power. Can feel the powerful airflow when putting ones hand at the back of this laptop compared to a 2012 era one.

@turbineseaplane Why do you even post here?

You post nothing but butthurt style negativity about the 16" MBP when it's so obvious you're not even in the market and never were anyway.

Every post you make is just to cut down the 16" and/or the people who own it, when you don't even own it, or any Apple laptop for that matter. At the same time you trash the 16", you complain that the 2015 models are a rip off too. Can't have it both ways.

Why are you so butthurt about the 16"? It's really gotten old, because there doesn't seem to be any reason for it. Everytime I see your name or avatar, I already know it's a negative post and sure enough, it is.

You don't like the 16", which you've never owned. We get it.

It wasn't "right out of the gate," though in reality it might as well have been. It's was two days after the return policy time expired (I believe that's 2 weeks?).

What I love is that after explaining this was my only computer, which I relied upon for an income, Apple didn't make me go through the whole "send it in for repair and wait 2-3 weeks to get it back" process.

They offered to give me an iMacPro to use in the interim. I wasn't interested in that because it would require me to restore from backups, then delete them when the laptop came back, then restore files again. So instead they accepted the laptop as a "lemon" and replaced it with a brand new one (which was actually a slightly more expensive model) on the spot.

I had just purchased an iPad Pro, keyboard cover, Pencil, and a few other items from that store a few weeks previous, so they probably took that into account, but still, they didn't have to do that.

Regarding the cores: Turning off TurboBoost doesn't shut off cores... it simply prevents the TurboBoost feature from kicking in. I do that because for what I use the machine for, I don't need it. It's perfectly normal for the machine to kick up the fans when the processor is working hard – I just don't want to trade getting something done a half second faster in exchange for hearing the fans, so there's no reason for me to use it.

Believe me when I tell you that there are plenty of things about Apple's products (hardware and software) that I don't like. But overall, I find them to be the very best option available for what I use it for.

Patiently waiting for the 14" replacement.
Rather annoyed by the lack of 802.11ax wireless though, there's really no excuse, the chips are there, the iPhone 11 has it. Why not this? Aside from that it's pretty much ideal for me. I love the USB-C ports too, my whole setup is now USB-C (apart from my iPhone).

I really love my 15" 2019 I9 512gb pro. I would have preferred the 16 of course but got a really good deal on this open box. I am glad you love your 16!

I just got my 16" MBP a few days ago and LOVE it also. I have my old 2010 model MBP that still works (though is getting sluggish) but the size of the screen and the graphics on my new MBP are awesome!

Loving mine, as well...especially since I got it set up with bootcamp...have High Sierra running in a VMWARE box so I can use CS5.5, fine-tuning with Turbo Boost Switcher/Throttlestop, etc.

It has been great since working from home, I have it connected to a Samsung 43" 4K TV and the performance and picture is wonderful. It never feels like a laptop and I have it docked in a Twelve South Arc at the back of the TV.

Very pleased with mine. It was totally overkill for my usage (web browsing, office work, some light photo editing). However after coronoa shutdown I've taken up some gaming, and now the extra power really comes into use.

Still love my 2017 MacBook Pro every time I use it. Just a through and through premium experience. Had to get a keyboard replacement but the new one they installed is fantastic, great travel and no "mushy" feeling.

The great thing about OVERKILL on a laptop purchase is that situations come up, and your overkill laptop can handle it, you have no worries. But had you bought a lesser laptop and those same situations came up, you might have REGRETS. Living with regret is a lot harder than living with "I spent a few hundred dollars more that I really didn't need to." ;)

It's very good laptop. Has drawbacks as any consumer product you buy, but I love it.

Agreed I’m very happy with mine

I’m mostly just annoyed with minor Catalina bugs but I’m sure those will be ironed out in time, sooner than later hopefully. There’s the external monitor power draw thing. System audio sample rate changing on me unexpectedly. Tru tone freaking out when I wake the screen. Hopefully all just software bugs to be fixed...

I think a lot of the things people are complaining about are not as big of a deal as they’re made out to be. I can find a flaw in anything and convince myself to return it. But I kept the 16”. Yeah there are a couple issues but nothing Apple shouldn’t be able to fix.
Update: almost 3 months later and still no fix for any of the issues I’ve been having. I’m less enthusiastic now. They’d better figure out these graphics card drivers ASAP.

The T2 kernel panics took years to fix (is is fixed now?), I'm not so confident that apple will resolve the graphics card issue ASAP

I received my air on Friday and I've been using it quite a bit. The thermals in this thing have been really annoying me, I originally bought it to replace my old iMac to be able to use it with my screen. I connect to my screen and run ableton and it near maxes out the CPU. I've been adjusting my usage to not make the machine get too hot. I decided its not the machine for me and just ordered a 16" mbp. Love the build and wedge design of the air but I can't push it enough for my needs. The screen is not bright enough among other issues. Hopefully the 16" MBP fits my needs.

I have always loved MacBook Pros but this one is simply amazing. Instant start up when opening lid, brilliant fingerprint, even the Touch Bar I love! Just saying I LOVE it!! I have a 2019 Mac Pro and the XDR nano screen as well plus lots of other goodies but the MacBook Pro 16 is up there with my most treasured item ever. Just stunning in design, feel, quality, screen, speed, sound... So much hate out there it seems! Love it :) Just saying...Thanks Apple

your 16 mbp have one of worst display in categories of refresh rate and pixel response time. your device’s pixel response time is one of the slowest on planet so screen is great only while you are looking to your wallpaper but when you start move sth on desktop like scrolling a page, all pixels get crazy smear blurry because of 60hz ultra slow pixelresponse time. cheaper notebooks have more than hz value and faster pixel response time. You can check how terrible values of pixel response time your device has

I agree 100%. I traded in my 2018 base model 15″ MBP for the 1 TB stock 16″ and it is just an excellent laptop in every way. Apple really outdid themselves with this thing.

• Its trackpad and speakers are the best in the industry and it’s not even a debate.
• The screen is excellent. The added real estate and shrunk bezels are a welcome improvement.
• The unibody aluminum chassis makes it rigid as a tank.
• The keyboard, my goodness! The keyboard was not only fixed from the awful low-travel defective Butterfly design, it was turned into something that is an absolute joy to type on.
• I wasn’t expecting a physical escape key but they even gave us the physical escape key!
• The Touch Bar gets a lot of hate, and I was skeptical of it at first too, but I’ve learned to make good use of it and wouldn’t want a machine without one now. It’s particularly useful for writing Chinese. When typing Chinese, the input method is usually phonetic and you are presented with a numbered selection of suggested characters that all sound like what you typed, and you have to keep looking at the screen and pressing the numbers that correspond to the characters you want. But with the Touch Bar, the suggested characters appear on the Touch Bar and you just tap the characters you want to type as they come up, and it has predictive text which can often anticipate the next character without you having to type anything at all. Super handy in my use case.
• The four USB-C/Thunderbolt-3 ports get hate too, but I love the flexibility they offer plus the ability to charge the device from both sides.
• I already mentioned the speakers, but I’m going to mention them again because holy moly they are fantastic. The sound is crisp and full and just amazing.

You are right on. As an Apple employee I have nothing better to do than post on this forum. Actually, Apple pays me to post here as part of an elaborate marketing scheme to convert the pissed off, disgruntled and haters.

then could you please forward this message to managers

I really love my 16'' while using it as a laptop. Having it connected to a 5K Ultrafine however is only bearable with Turbo Boost disabled, otherwise it's louder than my desktop with 9 fans in it on full power.

What really annoys me at the moment is that I constantly seem to lose my Wifi connection for no apparent reason - or it's just getting super super slow to the point where only a restart will fix it. Add to this the constant kernel panics happening when you don't disable Power Nap and I'm not so happy anymore. Catalina is so bad that I don't even want to start talking about it.

Are the problems you list in the second paragraph occurring when hooked up to an external screen, or in "laptop mode?" I've had it for 3 days running on 10.15.4 and experienced none of those issues.

Mine is connected to a 34" 5K HDR most of the time and it's whisper quite under normal use - office, YouTube, Apple TV, browsing, etc.

Oh nice - looking for something like this as well - not really happy about the 27 5K for the price. Are you running yours in clamshell mode?
