I'm hesitating to buy MBP 16", some points make me worry:
- popping sound (I hope that it can be fixed in the future with updated software)
- Coil whining (software problem?)
- Washed out screen after unlock (software problem?)

Should I wait or it's OK to buy now?

I got a new 16" a couple of weeks ago and have been very happy with it so far.
- No popping sounds.
- No coil whine that I can detect.
- No issues with washed out screen.

I use it mostly in clamshell mode attached to a screen when at home, then as a laptop during the week when out and about with work.

Screen is excellent.
Speakers are fantastic.
Responsiveness of the system in general is top-notch.
Keyboard is super comfortable for me now.
Sturdy build.

The machine is also mostly quiet for me doing day-to-day tasks, rarely hear the fans.
When they do come on, it's not for long and it doesn't annoy me.

Only problem I did have was a couple of shutdowns overnight when I had put the machine to sleep. But the new 10.15.5 update seems to have cured this.

So far, so good.

2 MacBook Pros were my main workhorses for ten years. They handled everything I threw at them. So far after 2 months, the current 16" has no unusual issues whatsoever for video, photo editing and graphic design. The true test of these MacBook Pros is their longevity and durability. My MBPs outlasted and remained usable by 3-4 years longer than my coworkers‘ Dell XPS’s under the same heavy travel use conditions. My old MBPs were sold while their old Dells were junked.
The story of my life, exactly. I too had an early MBP 15, with the optical drive (2008-9?) and loved it. Then the MBA came out and evolved, and I was traveling like a madman, so I needed something light. So I splurged on a refurb maxed-out i7 MBA in 2012 (sold the ol' MBP on eBay at a crazy high price, and got good feedback from the buyer), and the 2012 MBA 13 serves me pretty well to these days. Recently, I became concerned that FCP and Photos started to look a bit "heavy" for it (while it never let me down and always finished the process) - so last year a came across an old stock 2018/9 MBA 15 with 32 gigs of ram and 2tb of storage. Since it was offered at half of the original price - I jumped on it and remain super happy ever since. This is a beast! Just put it in a cool blue thin plastic casing (to protect against falls) and slapped a silicone keyboard cover, which makes typing even more pleasant and buttery - and I'M IN HEAVEN. Literally, always looking forward to work and play with it. Love the Touch Bar as well, disagree with all the bad rap it gets. Disabled the Siri in it and voila. Perhaps the 16 is even better but so far so good for me, especially considering the savings I was fortunate to get. Thanks, Apple!

Very pleased with mine. It was totally overkill for my usage (web browsing, office work, some light photo editing). However after coronoa shutdown I've taken up some gaming, and now the extra power really comes into use.
Wow was it only back in april last year I said this? 😄 I've now sold my MBP and bought an M1 MBA which also suits my needs fine 😁
