I am still battle on getting or not getting this macbook. I cringe everytime I imagine myself being this guy:

I ordered Silver mainly because its old school. All the prior Macs I've owned have been either silver or glossy white, so to me silver feels more like the color of apple computers. I can imagine 10 years from now Apple will still be making silver computers. The space grey looks distinguished, but does not feel like a classic mac computer to me, and as trends evolve, I am not sure it (or gold or rose gold) will be around in 10 years time. I do miss the glowing apple. It was one of those things that served no purpose other than to announce that great planning went into the design of this machine.

I've had some second thoughts about Space Gray after seeing it in the Apple store. I do like the silver. I'm sticking with my order however as I don't want to go to the bottom of the list again.

That's really cool. The moment I saw Space Gray I thought "why do they even make silver, when everyone will want the Space Gray." It turns out a lot of people prefer the silver one. While I personally want a SG one (to change things a bit), I love it how people love both variants. Go for it.

Actually I ordered silver first and then cancelled and changed to SG as I wanted a change. Now I'm not sure, but don't want to change my order again and think I'll love the SG once it gets here.

I'd be going for space gray. I picked up a 2015 earlier this year so no requirement to upgrade for me. I am looking forward to seeing the 2018 and 2019 ranges though!

I hope the new touch bar implementation goes smoothly. Always nice to get net new tech and new toys.

You know honestly Silver is almost getting to be like Beige. It's just so.. ubiquitous.

Apple was inspiring in the late 90's / early 00's when they were going crazy with new Industrial design. Then they figured out how to do Aluminum and ever since, have really not been interested in departing from it. Offering color options is a nice departure.

I originally got the Space Grey MacBook and returned it for silver which I liked much better. When I found the non-touchbar MacBook Pro in stock Friday night I got the Space Grey. I'm still not 100% certain but it looks much better on the MBP to me for some reason. I've had no issue with smudges but I'm careful with all my Macs not to mess them up.

I kinda feel like I'm the exact target demographic for this laptop.

I never put money into laptops. I'm always going for the uncompromising performance of high-spec desktops.

But this time... they just made a machine that made me want to change that. It's just so well rounded looking.

It's like, there are people who think it's crazy when people pay $125 for a t-shirt. Well, I only own 4 t-shirts at any given time. Each one cost easily $60+, and they darn well look amazing and last 10,000 runs through the washing machine. Maybe I end up spending $30 per year more on t-shirts than other people. But in the big picture it's negligible. I don't have car payments or tuition or kids, so it's not an issue.

That's the new Macbook Pro. It's what the fashion industry calls "luxury basic." You pay out the nose for an astonishingly refined version of a commonplace item, specifically because it is commonplace, and you need it every day.

And to be clear, I don't make tons of money. I just own very few very nice things. And for that person, this machine looks like a gift from above.

I think this describes most of us - our Apple hardware is our one big splurge in life. Some people buy fancy golf clubs or luxury cars.

I think ive changed my mind on buying one of the new MBPs.

It might sound silly, but the missing start up sound really rubs me the wrong way. (Along with missing magsafe)

I know it has no bearing on the functionaly of the machine, but it takes away from the "personality", the "culture" of the platform. Specs and technology, ports and processors will change, but changing something so unique and identifiable of the platform doesnt seem right.

Has the Mac become "just another pc"? Is this what the Mac is heading towards under Cook's leadership? Ugh

The thing which set Apple apart from the "rest of them", was the culture... the smiling Mac at start up, the bootup chime, the trash can, the rounded buttons instead of rectangles. Seems like the new beancounters are willing to forego all that for a few pennies.
