I've just got to ask.

I am a big sci fi fan. Has anyone played SW Revenge of the Sith on the 30" ACD? how does the black levels look and the scenes with a lot of motion

Lord of the Rings also.. Any information would be helpful.

Can it handle blue ray movies?

does anyone know who makes the panels to the ACD? I read somewhere that it was phillips.

ok just got my replacement NEC LCD2470WNX and its perfect. No ghosting during transformers 720p or harry potter 720p. No black light bleeding. Looks beautiful.

I purchased the Dell 2407 some time ago. I used it for gaming and didn't notice any ghosting. I like the fact that it has the extra inputs (DVI + VGA + Component Video + S-Video).

I sold it, however, so I could buy the 27" model which I like even better. It doesn't rotate to portrait mode but it moves up and down on an articulating arm (like the first flat panel iMac). You can drop the screen right down on the desktop.

As for gaming with the Xbox 360 (at 1080p) or watching HD movies (1080p), the only way to totally eliminate jerking during panning or ghosting would be if you can run the monitor at 120Hz instead of 60Hz. The Mac can only support 60Hz. That's why LCDs by nature are probably not ideal for gaming with the Mac. But it the LCD supports 120Hz, it's possible that the Xbox 360 Elite model knows how to use that setting.

You do realize that the xbox 360 only supports up to 720p.

So of the 30" monitors on the market today which offers the best compromise for gaming and movie watching
Currently I have a samsung 192Mp and its fine. I would like better than what I have now in a 30"

I am not too crazy about dell or samsung.

and whats this I have been reading about from all of you on the TN "technology"
I dont understand the differences between the different panels

What's your source? Keep in mind that companies sometimes switch panel types without any notice.

I'm typing this while sitting in front of a 245T that I purchased last week. It is obvious that it's not a TN panel, the viewing angles are fantastic and the colors are great. If you go to http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php and search for the 245T, you'll find that it uses a Samsung S-PVA panel, the same panel used in the HP LP2465. It's a great monitor!

I'm a former gaming junkie. I've owned 3 or 4 crazy setups since 2003 with various hardware from AMD to Intel with various monitors from Dell, Apple, and Viewsonic. None of them were below 12ms response time. To be honest, I never noticed any sort of smearing or artifacts or any of the BS all of the BS reviewers claim to see on LCD displays. I've gamed on the 30" ACD recently for kicks (crysis demo), I did not see any sort of smearing or trailing because of the higher response time. I edit high frame per second video quite frequently and see no smearing either. The Dell is adequate, but I still feel the ACD is a better product in terms of color reproduction and such. Plus it's bezel design and sturdy feel will most likely not be beat for time to come - I know that doesn't matter to some but it matters to me. The Dell is also $2000, while the ACD comes in at $17xx with student discount, or $18xx without. Get the ACD, you will not be sorry.

Only thing I don't like about the apple design is the non removable cord. and the fact that the ports are ... limited compared with the dell

also the 3000:1 contrast ratio that the dell has.
THough I am not convinced that should be a deal breaker to me

look I would really like to keep this all the same name brand but apple makes it tough for the above reasons.

I've never really went by display contrast ratios. I have a sharp 32" LCD tv and a philips 32" lcd tv. The philips has a lower contrast ratio, but has better PQ then the sharp.

The removable cord is awesome, could not get any cleaner then just the single cord. Why do you want to remove it?

The only gripe I have with the single cord is that it could be bigger.

I was thinking in case if I ever had to replace the cord. what do I do. On samsung and or dell monitors the cord are removalbe. and I would max out on all the apple care for just that reason

and as far as the cable length can't you get those solutions from belkin? my mac pro will not be any considerable length to the pc. though I might have to keep it on the desk instead of on the floor because of the cable length.

I just feel like I am getting far less ports to play with than apple. why are they so skimpy.

Since the NEC will be out of stock until some in "at least March" I decided to get the Dell 2408. It arrived today and is a great looking monitor! Color and sharpness looks very good so far.

Just received my Samsung 2693HM 26" (though I think it's actually 25.5") LCD and am more than pleased, though not entirely until calibrating it with a Spyder2 Express. 3000:1 (dynamic), 5ms, 1xDVI, 1xVGA, 1xHDMI, concealed speakers (and audio in/out) and it's pretty slick looking. Going from dual-19" LCDs to a huge 26" LCD was quite shell-shocking. Not a IPS, but beautiful nonetheless.

I was initially planning on buying a 23" ACD, but the amount of Apple branded and silver hardware sitting on my desk is starting to look ridiculous and homerish.

I looked EVERYWHERE for the LCD2490WUXi and even called NEC. NEC had a few coming in this week but wouldn't have anything substantial for backorders until the middle of March.

NEC LCD2690WUXi

I ordered the NEC 2690WUXi a week after ordering my MP and it just arrived today...exactly 4 weeks. (sadly still waiting for my MP).

This display is gorgeous and the quality is superb. Before leaving the shop with it, I had it tested. Not 1 dead pixel or any signs of bleeding. The black was so black I thought it was turned off. I love the super smooth height adjustment and rotation to portrait view. The date on the back showed 02/2008 Rev. 4F. Looks like it was hot off the assembly line, QC'd and shipped out.

The display is using the new H-IPS A-TW (True Wide Polarizer) panel. I'm so stoked I can't wait for the MP to arrive any day now! :D

Sitting in front of a Eizo CG241w and loving every moment of it. Playing Bioshock and Crysis, processing photos, watching movies.
A great monitor just like the Nec above mentioned (the 24 is not available in europe).

Any of these will do really good!

Cheers
