Hi,
Could your say something about the few reasons not to buy it?

Additional cost, still using the Haswell processor, the lack of Target Display Mode.

I'm wondering if Apple didn't release the Retina iMac now because the iMac desktop line was getting stale and they needed something to bump up sales until Intel could get the Broadwell chips out the door. I'm thinking that maybe Apple originally had different plans but when Apple found out Intel was struggling with Broadwell they sort of whipped out the Retina iMac for the holiday season.

I sent the refurbished iMac back to Apple as soon as it arrived because I discovered why my current iMac's CPU was being crushed by Logic Pro X and also the solution.

Which configuration did you buy/return?

I am awaiting mine. I have 16GB of crucial ram awaiting the two empty slots still in the ram trap (16GB ordered in original build). My machine will be fully loaded then with no possible upgrades for speed.

Finally i got my iMac with Retina 5K display.

I had previously purchased just the basic config but was not completely satisfied.

4.0 GHz i7
32gb memory (Crucial from amazon)
256GB Flash storage (Not sold on fusion)
AMD M295 4GB DDR5.

Also a LACIE D2 Thunderbolt 2 (4TB)

I am very happy with my purchase but the wait was exactly 3 weeks.

:apple:

I ended up returning mine. For the money it wasn't that great considering I had the display settings set at non native just to be able to see the text well. So the 3k I spend on it didn't make sense.

I was switching from a high end PC which I could game on and would do everything well. I guess I just couldn't handle the Mac way of doing things and the lack of programs for Mac. Yes I could have run boot camp etc but then I could use my PC. I was really hoping to ditch my PC and go all Mac with my iPads and iPhones.

BTW I have 32g of ram for this thing that I couldn't return because I bought it from OWC so if anyone is interested it buying it private message me. It's brand new. I just installed it for a couple of days then removed it and returned the Mac.

after owning for a couple weeks, I'd say it's great but not as great as I thought it would be. Videos and images really are crystal clear and as such, it is great for editing. Yet, there is still some lag, even though I have the maxed out version cpu/video wise with 24 gigs of memory. Firefox and a few other programs crash unexpectedly, but I think that's more of a Yosemite issue I've learned from researching. I may just need more time with it actually doing editing, time has been consumed with other activities and just trying to get my entire image library properly organized before I really dive into using it.

I got the 2013 27" 3.5 i7 with the 1TB SSD and 16GB or memory. I noticed that they had another one just like in the refurb store next day. It makes you wonder if Apple is selling new as refurbished to push stock. There sure are a boat load of 2012/2013 27" iMacs in the refurb store.

Ok, so I got my 5k iMac 48 hours ago... and its A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!! Well worth the 3 week wait. My first Macintosh was a 2007 iMac (I retired it years ago), and have had a retina MBP for years, and finally added another iMac to my Apple collection.

PS: The fusion drive is REALLY good, faster than expected (coming from SSD on my retina MBP).

Well done Apple! :)

hi , i was wondering if all of you have ordered straight from Apple Stores or you have found another eshop that can send to Europe ! Because i am in Greece and i am searching to find a cheaper source for an iMac 5K i7 1TB Flash with 4GB GPU...

Picked up a base model for $2300. After 2 weeks no fan issues that I can report but there is lag from time to time which seems like more of a software issue, nothing major. Screen is fantastic.

We just ordered 2 5k iMacs with i7, 16 gb ram, 1tb fusion drive, and 295x video cards. Only gave us the standard shipping option (5-7 business days right now)...no way to expedite it. Delivery estimated to be Dec. 30-31.

goto about this mac >system report >sata/sata express
have something like Apple sad Sm128F plus west digital or seagate drive there

Ordered the "full monty" (sans the 32GB of RAM of course) on 12/1. It's currently in Tennessee. Supposed to be here 12/17. I've got 32GB of Kingston HyperX 1866Mhz RAM waiting for it. Pretty stoked! :D

Holy crap. I ordered the full Monty (sans RAM) as well on 11/28 yet mine is still in Shanghai according to UPS. It's supposed to arrive 12/22. Any idea how this discrepancy is possible? Is this because I'm in Canada or something?

I don't know how Apple is handling Canadian shipments. Perhaps they come to the USA first and get sent there.

Well, it went to Alaska first. Fortunately from there it made it direct to Canada. Although they actually flew it past me to the extreme other coast then back past me to the other coast. Now it will be delivered here a few days early which is a nice surprise. If they had just shipped it down from Alaska instead of coast to coast it would already be here. Guess that's a bulk delivery cost-saving (but highly inefficient) thing on the courier's part.

I take that back. They've changed the delivery date back to the original one for some reason. I called UPS but the agent was useless and rude about it. No reason, its just going to sit idle somewhere for 5 days then be delivered.
