Those big bezels really annoy me. This front design is from 2009. I just can't believe Apple hasn't gotten rid of them yet.

macOS looks so good on a thin bezel display.

I think it looks great, but I wouldn't mind a redesign. We'll see what they come up with.

Given the meager options Apple has to offer (no Kaby Lake), it would be nice to see a redesign.

I don't mind the large bezels, in fact I don't even notice it, but I get what you're saying and something a bit more fresh would be a nice change.

    I just purchased a 27" 5K iMac with 3tb fusion drive and M395.... I sure hope there isn't a redesign in a month! LOL

Although I did call apple after and spoke to an agent who said usually if a new iMac were to come out next month, they usually wouldn't have an issue with allowing me to Do an exchange. She noted my account that I called in too.

Either way, let's hope for a keynote invite soon for press!

Amen to your post. The iMac design is seriously long in the tooth, and I'll buy this year's model in a heartbeat if they do indeed do a redesign and really skim the fat off those Godzilla like bezels.

    Welcome to 2004 Apple.

    Whaaatt?? How is that possible?

The fat bezels really make the iMac look dated. The design is so 2009.

Solidsnake, I'm in the same boat as you.

I have an m395 512 SSD iMac on order from a 3rd party, but if what you said is true, I'll be cancelling and buying from Apple.

Are you sure they said you can just return it for the new one if the new one is released?

(it undoubtedly will be, Apple always does an iMac refresh in October, they have every year since something like 2009).

I have never heard of that but if it is true, that would be perfect for me.

Im am not in agreement with the smaller bezels. I have a Sharp Aquous 47" HDTV from 2010 and it has similar chin and bezels to the iMac. I have purchased newer thin bezels HDTVs and the build quality is very cheap compared to the 2010. I think the newer design minimal bezel is a cheaper way to manufactur the screen and in the end you have a lesser quality screen that will not last as long.

So I'll explain in some more detail of what I meant earlier.

I placed my order on the new iMac (actually a refurbished direct from Apple.. It was really quite the deal and refurb is sometimes better than new, I'm sure some here will agree.)

I just purchased 2 new iPhone 7's and another mid-tier 27" iMac 3 weeks ago for my office at work and this one was for my home office. It's going to be the main computer at home to share with the girlfriend and to replace my 2012 MacBook Pro retina that's pretty much on its last legs... Anyway, I ordered this one today and called to ask if they can upgrade shipping for free since I've probably spent well over $4500 this month alone on Apple, she then mentioned it already went into preparing for shipment within the first hour of placing the order. Which was great, no complaints. I then asked if there was a new iMac released next month, is the 14 day return/exchange policy firm and she went on to say we would get you in touch with one of our supervisors and it absolutely shouldn't be an issue at all. She said we have definitely done exceptions for many customers like this before when they purchase an expensive computer and a new model happens to be around the corner without us really knowing.

I asked her to make a note on my account that I called in and asked about this and she said no problem.

So all in all, yes it's up to the discretion of the supervisor when calling in or the manager at the Apple Store, but I don't see it being an issue.

I think the price I got for this iMac and it being the higher end model, I'll probably stick with it for many years to come. I really wanted it for the 3TB fusion drive and it happened to include the M395 graphics card which is fine but I won't be doing anything too crazy graphics wise at home besides web site development.

In case of a major redesigned, I'll exchange it depending on price and so on but I'm really excited to have this one coming in a few days.

Interesting, something like that would be ideal for me because I unloaded my old iMac in the interest of buying a new one, but I am without a desktop for now, and would want to buy one.

I am planning on getting one of the current iMacs but with a new one so close it is hard to justify it.

I feel this is something they should do given how much money we're spending on their computers.

My late 2009 iMac is on its last legs - Graphic issues.

I ordered a brand new iMac 5k and an Iphone 7 but cancelled the whole order last week because of the iMac refresh hopefully next month. As I claim the VAT back, i couldn't keep the phone either - October couldn't come soon
    enough for me.

For the iMac I really don't mind the large bezel. The current design is gorgeous! On the iPhone though....

I'd love to see a piano black finish body like in iphone 7 or even white piano finish.
As awesome as it was when introduced, I've grown bored of the aluminum body.

I'd buy a piano white finish on an iMac in a heartbeat. It would probably look much better next to the new white Magic Keyboard/Mouse etc too. I really liked the design of the old white iMacs for the time. A modern take on it (Aluminum with piano finish) could be fantastic.

Even use the current design with a slightly smaller bezel and a choice for a white instead of black could be cool. A glowing white Apple logo on the chin could be cool too, but I think Apple is going away from that with design of the MacBook (a spacegray or matte black finish like the MacBook would be really cool too).

Doubtful that the bezel and design will change. Seems to me apple is more focused on thickness inwards than bezels, though that is a rather strange preference on something you look at from the front which needs the internals for cooling. The iphone has a bigger bezel footprint than any of they competitors, even so they didn't bother modernizing the design...despite it being the same for 2 years. And iPhone is apples biggest flagship these days. I would be shocked if they actually have putten resources into redesigning the iMac. Hell, the iMac is STILL listed as new one year later on their page with the current design and internals....so either they consider it still to be fresh and new and you wont even see an update this year at all, or they are trying to frame a lot of ignorant buyers,......oooor they care so little about Macs that they haven't even paid attention to their own Mac webpages for the last months...which I think is the correct one. You would be lucky to even see a refresh of the iMac this fall to be honest. Personally Im super happy to have sold my retina iMac and now having a PC as my workstation. I will never go back. (will of course still buy other apple products, but no more desktops and workstations from them).

YES and YES! A piano white iMac would be an absolute dream machine for me, as well as a complementing piano black for others who prefer that to match with their Jet black iPhones.

The glowing Apple logo idea, while cool, doesn't seem practical on an iMac since it's facing the user and can be a distraction from the display. Glowing Apple logos are also the result of backlit MacBook displays, and having the logo under the display would require Apple to build in an additional light in the chin, taking away from internal space and adding unnecessary components which would be just for pure aesthetics, so I don't see that happening.

The iMac is definitely a beautifully designed machine, and I as I said previously, I don't even notice the bezels.

I mind the chin more than the bezels, though I would prefer less bezel as well.

I sincerely hope they release the next iteration with black keys on the keyboard. The white keys are so absurdly user-hostile. Unless you work with pristine white gloves on.

I don't mind the white keys, they remind me to clean my keyboard more often ;) The dirt is going to be there regardless, I'd rather be able to see it so I know when it needs cleaned. Kind of like the difference between hardwood floors and carpets...

Also I think the white keyboards works better in a darker environment without backlit keys. A black keyed keyboard with backlit keys would be pretty sweet looking though.

Personally, the bezels don't bother me as they sort of drift into the background when I'm focusing on content. In some ways I think the bezel actually helps to separate the screen from the rest of my room.

They also serve a purpose of allowing you to grip the screen without touching the active area, so it doesn't get fingerprints.

They may also serve as additional space internally, as well.

Well given the pretty mediocre iPhone 7 release I'm not holding my breath re: a complete iMac redesign. I genuinely do feel it's looking somewhat dated now to say the least.

We can but hope though Apple don't appear to have much interest in their computer line these days.

As I am writing this I am sitting in front of my 2009 27" iMac. And I think it still looks good, albeit a bit dated. In my mind, ideally they get rid of the chin and reduce the bezels significantly. I know this would take away from the internal space, but for all I care they could make it 3x thicker. Although I know they would never do that.

I'm getting the impression that everyone is focused on the bezels when at the desk. Personally, I focus on the screen. LOL

For me it is not so much when I am working at the computer. Then I am just glad that the bezel is black. It is more when I don't use it. Then that chin looks quite big.
