"Choice" is a silly argument. You have choice; if Apple isn't selling what you want and some other company is then you can choose to buy it. A corporation has no obligation to produce every iteration of every device. It's silly to say that Apple is denying anyone a choice.
Sorry, but that "if you dont like it get something else" argument is getting tired. In this forum then an overwhelmingly large amount of us WANT an iPad. The difference comes in what size we have a personal preference towards so we express ourselves in hopes that enough people rally behind an idea that it gets addressed.

We are CONSUMERS and, prior to Apple, consumers used to express themselves on what they want and hope the company would notice So to fall back on the "if you want a pink car then dont buy a Mercedes" argument is lame because in the end there always is the possibility that the brand you prefer will ALSO make the style you prefer. So just conforming to loving "only what they offer" is exactly the sheep mentality that Apple fanatics try to pin on PC users for not "thinking different" enough.

50 people posting on a Mac forum is not a scientific cross-section of consumers.

Apple is a corporation that must decide what resources it can apply to developing and producing new devices in light of how they will affect its existing product line. I have no doubt that Apple would produce a 7" tablet if it worked to its satisfaction AND didn't cannibalize sales of its 10" iPads. Anyone here who says "Apple must make ... because choice is good" is being overly naive and simplistic. Apple's in the business of making money and if they saw an opportunity to make money right now with a 7" device, it would be here. And it still may appear at some point.

Samsung, on the other hand, is not the consumer's benevolent friend. It's throwing everything it can think of into the market in the hope that one or two will make an impact. Maybe they're geniuses over there, who knows?

At first I was cool with the fire because of its price, but after lengthy time with it, I must say all around, it just plain sucks. I hate the screen size because the fluidness of the scrolling, swiping, and pinch zoom is horrible. It constantly stutters. If you are going to have a small screen u MUST have a fluid interface. I won't complain about the screen sucking because I mean, it is a 200 dollar device. But the lack of hardware buttons(home and volume) really is irritating. 10,000 apps vs Androids complete library.....SMH.

I think its becuase, like what I hear about all Android devices, it is not good enough.

If Apple made it, it would work much better (but cost more, of course).

Are you returning it?

BTW, I want
iPad Mini

Two accurate statements. First hand knowledge of the second one, when they were entering the cell phone market.....

Didn't Steve Jobs once say the 7" tablet was DOA? After using the Kindle Fire, I'm inclined to agree with him. All of the OS limitations aside, I find the 7" size a "tweener" that's not really needed. Surfing the web and watching videos feels very much like using a phone. Constant taps to zoom, reorienting the device from portrait to landscape, etc. So, who needs a 7" phone?

I personally love 7" displays. I hope that Apple figures out how to offer more screen size variety without fragmenting user/developer experience.

Kindle Fire ‘fails at almost everything’ partly due to its size

I wouldn't trust the objectivity of any article from "The Daily". First because it is a Rupert Murdoch publication and second it is heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem.

The Kindle Fire is exactly 1/2 the size of the iPad but 3x the size of the iPhone, so it is closer is size to the iPad... hardly a phone.

...but that "who needs a xx" phone?" comment is typical of those who don't see the value. Anti-Apple people said it about the iPad, Pro-Apple people will say it about non-Apple tablets... until Apple produces the same sized device, THEN it will be "innovative". ;)

A little harsh. It's pretty good for $200, but the 7" size is limiting.
I just got done playing with a Fire. I wasn't expecting much and that was pretty much what i got. Scrolling was stuttery, trying to select what you want off the carosel is a chore (seriously, the stupid thing would like to flip left or right instead of letting me stop and select the app I wanted), it crashed twice trying to play "Cut the Rope" and after that I gave up.

It's a beta product, I'm convinced.

If you were checking it out in a retail store, then it was probably running the 6.0 firmware. 6.1 was released a few days ago and it significantly improves performance. There are different ways to interact with the Fire that does not require using the carousel. It's about flexibility. Don't like the carousel (recently accessed media/apps) then use the tabs and favorites tray.

That would have been better, but had no idea how to do that. It took me a few second to figure out how to get back to the home screen from inside an app. Swipe up from the middle. Kinda reminded me of my Touchpad in that regard.

And it was probably running 6.0 and not the latest update. Cause scrolling sucked.

I find it much too small to read books on. Also the Fire needs some serious OS or firmware updates.

I really like the 7" screen. I think it offers plenty of screen to read, web surf, watch videos and game!

I think it's perfect for mobility.

I wish the iPad 3 would come in this screen size as an option as I know not everybody would want the smaller screen.
