I didn't say anything in my original post about anyone rushing out to buy the device. It was an an anecdote, nothing more, nothing less. ......

Anytime you start a thread you are asking people you have never met to comment on your musings, anecdote, etc. Don't be surprised when they may have a different take on your "anecdote" about a "creative", "fun" electronic device that everyone loves and can be used as an adult coloring book. :apple:

Then again my wife updated her iPad to and Air 2 that she uses exclusively as a game device :).

I personally feel like the genius of the iPad Pro is that it can be a lot of things to different people. It's a great consumption device and to me is the real "coffee table" computer, like they called the original iPad. You don't need to be a professional to use it, but you can be. You don't need to be an artist to draw on it, but you can be.

I personally use it for email, web, movies, drawing and work. Can my laptop do the same? Yes (everything but drawing). But for everyone who thinks it's too big, I feel like it's the sweet spot for me and what I envisioned a tablet to be. It's only a pound for having a 13" screen. I haven't used my laptop more than one time since the first day.

I'm not saying it's for everyone. It's not. And I think it depends on your usage and what other devices you have. For me, having a 5.7" screen on my phone made using my iPad much more scarce. With the larger screen of the Pro, I feel like they are two separate devices. Not trying to start an argument. Just simply stating my opinion.

I know the IPP isn't cheap, however, maybe I'm in the minority that thinks the price was pretty reasonable - especially for Apple. Considering that an unlocked iPhone 6s Plus costs around $900, I don't find the price that exorbitant.

A price is not just a number. The iPad Pro is not expensive simply because it costs $1000. It is expensive for some because for $1000 people expect to get more value than the iPad Pro currently offers.

Some people feel the Pro does deliver value

I guess it's how one defines value. IMO the biggest improvements with the iPP are going to come from software. I don't think the software comes anywhere close to taxing the hardware right now. That's why I'm very excited to see what Apple has up its sleeve for iOS 10.

True, do I think it adds much more than my air 2? No I don't

But it works great for many other people which is great but for me not worth the extra I would need to pay

I think Rogifan is right, price is absolutely relative. Some may think it is expensive and at the same time spend near as much money on something different which is a value for them and a useless spending for others.
I am glad, Rogifan enjoys his iDevice as well as his family.

My sister in law got one for Christmas and it has not been put down since. From adults admiring it's size and speed to kids playing games on the big screen it has been a huge hit. I can honestly say no other gift has been constantly passed around, admired and used as much as her iPad Pro.

I too showed it off to all my family and they all loved it,though my Dad says I spend to much on "toys" as he calls them. But hey I love it,use it for work and I couldn't see going back to a smaller one. Though I've yet to receive my Apple pencil yet :( Can't wait till I do! So excited to finally try it.

I'm so envious! I can understand why your IPP was a hit with the relatives. My husband has an IPP and was griping a little about the size of it. I picked it up and was shocked at how light and tiny it was. Yeah, it seems small to me. This is one time where Apple's obsession with thinness seems to really pay off.

Because of all the comments I'd read I was expecting something a bit clunky like a MS Surface, which my husband also has and is indifferent to. The pencil is a dream. We are getting a family IPP to share next year.

For me I bought it to replace my everyday computing needs minus the heavy programming I do in XCode which I still have my 1 year old MBP for, but apart from programming(Is there a reason why the IPP couldn't run Xcode?) I don't think I've used the Mac for more than 5 minutes, the IPP is just so much more flexible with basically the same screen size, the pencil makes note taking so glorious that I never want to take notes ever again on a computer
On top of that the keyboard case I got at Christmas is wonderful, it's a smart case that has soft buttons that click just enough to give you a satisfying feeling of typing on a real keyboard. As I've said before this is the first Apple device in the Tim Cook era that has given me the most WOW this thing is changing my daily compiuting routine. Can't wait to see where they go with this , the future is promising.

I certainly see the iPad pro as a device that can impress and delight most people for a day... But how many people will be happy they spent $1000 on it a few weeks later when the novelty wears off? I really don't know...

Well whatever supposed "novelty" this device had, it hasn't worn off on me yet.

Most people that have seen mine are very curious about it. It is my hope to have this replace the vast majority of what I do on my macbook. Right now, I'm working on setting it up, etc... The key is having the right apps to make things productive.

I showed off my iPad Pro at a couple family Christmas parties and everyone loved it. They especially loved the Pencil with this coloring book app called Pigment. What's interesting is I got very few questions about the device from a productivity standpoint. No one asked about file systems or windowed apps or even keyboards. And when I was showing people that you can just stick the pencil in the lightening port to give it a quick charge if you're running out of battery they all thought that was the coolest thing ever. The tech press can make fun of it all they want but my non-techie family and friends gave it a big thumbs up. Oh and one other thing I remember...no one mentioned weight, in fact most people were impressed with how light it felt for the size.

That's how everyone reacted to my samsung note pro 12.2 a year before ipp was even born. now no one cares, and i rarely if ever use the wonderful pencil/stylo that actually comes with it, doesnt need to be charged and fits inside the tablet. so the thrill wears off.

Well too bad for you I guess. The iPP replaced my iPad Air. I've been using iPads since 2011. If the thrill was going to wear off I think it would have happened long before now.

For me, the "right app" is FileBrowser. It serves as the file system people keep saying they want/need. It ensures that I can get my work files into and out of my iPad.

You are a better person than I. I hid my new iPP in a closet during the big holiday weekend because I knew my techie cousins would want to mess with my settings and download a whole bunch of crap and leave digital fingerprints everywhere. And maybe break my pencil:/

So yeah, I'm getting coal this Christmas for being a selfish shellfish. Coal and an iPP

Thanks for mentioning this app. I have not seen it before, but just downloaded it. Pretty impressive, I can now access files from my iMac and Airport Time Capsule directly.

I didn't get an iPP for Christmas, but I would have done the same thing. I don't like other people using my devices, so I guess I am a selfish shellfish also. :D

I thought it was pretty average, considering the price they are changing.
Average?

Lol, what tablet has that level of performance, polish, etc. for the price? What laptop has that level of thinness, power, etc., for the price?

There's almost nothing average at all about the iPad Pro. Now, you might think it's not worth $799, and that's fine, but there's nothing else on the market like it. Just different things that you may or may not prefer.
