Have fun. FedEx swings by at around 9:30AM so it never makes sense for me to camp out. I'd be able to have it open and playing with it sooner even if I was first in line at the closest Apple store.

Will check the local Best Buy tomorrow and report back if there is a queue.

Actually, that sounds like a fun game. My Best Buy and Apple store are pretty close to each other. I may check to see if there is a line at both tomorrow.

I don't see what he said that was so wrong that would cause you to act like an ass to him.

But it's ok to act like an ass to the OP?

Come on, people. Is it really going to hurt you if this guy camps out?

OP, hope you have fun.

Round and round we go!

He made the thread to get reactions/attention. He got reactions/attention and noone has said anything particularly out of line. The world is at peace.

If hes mad about it he is free to come post about it, though personally I don't think hes actually camping out yet anyway.

What If Your Shipped iPad Is Defective?

I guess the advantage of lining up and getting it from a store is being able to bring it back instantly if it has a defect (e.g. dead pixels).

Don't you have to wait weeks to get a replacement for a unit bought online?

If people get stuff like a dead pixel or screen defect, I'd hold onto it for a while myself.

Free card to get a replacement anytime within the first year if you manage to dent a corner or scratch the screen or something that you otherwise arn't covered for sans apple care +. Unless it actually really bothers you. Or just refresh the battery.

Hey, some people here need to grow up now and quit acting like they're superior to people who choose to camp out. Guess what, i could have pre-orderd it like the rest of you guys but i just made the decision to camp out just for the experience. I know getting it delivered is a much wiser choice, but I'm young and i'm a new yorker, so if i decide to have some fun with my life i don't think people should criticize me for it. At the end of the day, i'm happy with what I'm doing, so go ahead and continue to glorify pre-orders. Oh and btw my brother works for Fedex so i definitely could have received it sooner than any of you guys

I guess he was serious then.

I don't even have a preorder myself (didn't know I was going to get one when they were still available for release date), what I found ridiculous was a day and a half+ early when it seems like pretty much anyone who lined up 4+ hours early last year got it.

Perhaps a NYC Apple store would require you to get there earlier, but still.... that early?

Welp, alrighty. Anyway, if you are going to make an attention seeking personal thread you can't really add the qualifier "but only if you are going to be nice". None the less, sure have fun...

The Upper West Side store is out of my way, but I may stop by the Fifth Avenue store tomorrow and report back on how many people are camping out already. :p

I camp out for basketball tickets, so I understand the excitement of pitching a tent and having fun with it. Enjoy the experience and the iPad. If I was getting one, I'd do the same.

Oh and be safe!

Camping out for a product can be fun. I've done it for a Sega Dreamcast and a Nintendo Wii, both of which I pre-ordered.

Its more of a social event. You hang out with friends, meet people in line, and talk about whatever cool new gadget you're about to buy.

If the OP has the means to do it, let him.

Exactly !!

I camped out for a black friday the night before once myself. 4 hours for the iPad 2. A few hours for a videogame launch once.

It can be fun, its not the act of waiting for it that surprised me its the day and a half earlier than you'd expect that surprised me. A day early at the least.

Yes. Every person that camps out at my Apple store is a person that's in line ahead of me. ;-)

More seriously... to the campers: enjoy it. You won't mind if I think you're a little insane, right? Life would be boring with the slightly insane.
