Hey Friends,

My wife loves the look of the gold apple watch, but could never justify spending 10k+ on one, so I gold plated her Stainless steel Milanese apple watch. Well, i actually plated 2! I was going to keep it, but I think i'm going to stick with my 42mm link when it finally arrives, so its hitting ebay. (apple won't accept the return)

looks great man

I was thinking $399.

Not to say anything about your one-off production (because it's good), but being realistic, considering that long-time, professional plating specialists and companies charge about upwards of $499 their quality of work, you'd probably have to be more competitive and/or be prepared to handle the quality, workload, guarantees, etc.

Thanks everyone! I'm very excited about how it turned out. I'll build a square space site this weekend and see what the interest is like. Does $499 seem reasonable for this service?

Make it $199 or $249 and you'll have people going crazy and probably catch the attention of the press! $499 seems a bit too much considering the Watch starts at $349 (SS for $549).

You're getting what is essentially the same look of the $10k-17k watch for $500. I'd say that's worth it.

How durable is the plated finish?

I would really consider this at $299. $399 really depends on the labor and how quickly and bad chipping can occur.

What is the gold plating process, and what is the safety/durability of the end result?

Is the watch damaged during the process?

Do any metals or chemicals wear off on the user over time?

I think $499 is a pretty decent price. Not too expensive that people wouldn't think of coming to you and not too cheap that a crowd would line up your shop affecting quality. Now that I mention quality, I will pay 499 if plate could at least last >6mos or there's an easy, affordable and safe way to replate it if it starts to chip.

Personally, you should wait at least a month before you consider doing this for others. At least that would give you enough time to see how your wife watch holds up for cracking, etc. Risky business if something goes wrong.

No,

OP, start planning now. You're not the only one with a shop.
Maybe someone else in MR has a shop too.

First means something.

Watch looks great. That band really looks great in gold.

Also checked the site, those motorcycles are totally my style. Bookmarking for the future

Check these bad boys out:

Hey guys, I'm convinced. I'm going to do this. I just talked to my coowners and we can do 1000+ day. I'm putting together a squarespace page right now.

$399 seems like a good price. Its worth it for us, but not outrageous. I would totally do it if I didn't already own the shop

He's not first though. There are already several professional places with slick websites offering Apple Watch plating services. So he needs to be competitive with them or else why would people choose a one-man operation with no track record, etc.?

Anyway, here are some pictures of the finished product:

Whoa. That looks way better than I anticipated. I am interested in your services if you're willing to provide them. PM me. ;)

Edit: I just re-read your post. You're selling this specific one on eBay? Man, I wish I could nab it.

Superlative job.
This thread will be hit with moderator reminders.

I would consider this if I stick the watch
