13 Mini owner here.

It's my third iPhone, after a 5s and a 6s, and I must say that despite loving the size and convenience, it's been quite a letdown. I have had it for 2 years and the battery health is now 88%. But that is not the worst part. After having owned the 5s and 6s for several years, it is the first time the Lightning port stopped working and now the phone cannot be charged using this port. Mind you, I take good care of the cables and quite careful when connecting and disconnecting cables. Oh, well. Time to start saving enough money to pay for a new battery (when the time comes) and for the connector repair.
88% after 2 years isn’t bad

That’s what happened to my 14 pro max

Apparently 15 pros are 88- lower 90s after just coming up on one year gulp

Ha, my 14 Pro sitting here with 78% battery life in 2 years. But I don't really notice it beyond number peeping in settings.
These things are so efficient now - the improvent in this aspect alone should make it very possible for Apple to focus on form factor again - slim it down, make it lighter, make a smaller model once in a while to surprise everyone...

iPhone 13 mini, a smartphone I wish I would have purchased if only:
  • it had about 3000mAh
  • it had a telephoto
I have iPhone 5c right now which is around the size of iPhone 5/5s/SE 2016 and iPod touch 5/6/7 but with a 4 inch 16:9 screen... It can mostly be used for phone calls, text messages, photo and video and transferring them via AirDrop [which iPhone 4s and older and iPod touch 4 and older do not]

Only a few apps can be used with iOS 10 since most of them either dropped support for it or too many features introduced in later versions that do not work in iOS 10 compatible apps...

I could be in the minority since I don't get the appeal of switching to aspect ratio taller than 16:9 or 18:9 [2:1]
  • video is either 16:9 or 18:9 [2:1] and black bars show up
  • pinching to zoom video to use all the available space will cut off parts of the video that was originally part of the recorded video
Gesture based navigation as a standard seems to be the only thing for me since videos are mostly shot in either 16:9 or 18:9 [2:1] with a very few still using 4:3

I really don’t understand how we got from the size of the iPhone 4 to these giant “Pro Max” bricks. Who are all these people who like phones that don’t fit in your pocket or hand, make your pants sag and your wrist sore, and require two hands to operate?!
Yet you see small women holding Promax iPhones. I understand your point!

I don’t know anyone that uses that weird fisheye wide lens anyway.
I don‘t get it either why they put in that normal lens and that really distorting wide-angle lens. Sure, it‘s nice to have every 200th photo or so (but still doesn’t look very good then) - but a tele lens would be so much more useful. Apart from that I love my 13 mini and, to be honest, at the end of the day the 15 pro still has trashy phone cameras - if I want to lug around something that unwieldy and heavy I just grab a real camera with a big lens and a big sensor.

but are still too small to make text more legible and videos more exciting…

People who use them more as mini tablets than as phones. Reading websites, news articles, ebooks. Even watching videos.

I bought a powebank as a best friend to my mini, I think 'she/it' got a bigger battery only by hearing that. Not sure how much I will need it, but it was on sale on the Amazon-days recently, soo.

I have no plan whatsoever to buy a bigger phone anywhere soon - absolutely NOT 🚫
As longer as Apple disrespect us iPhone mini user, as better the powerbank will feel. It's like taking my mini to the gym, and boost it up 💪🏼 for endurance. She is not going to lose this fight!

I underrated you. I also would like to have iPhone mini-like, but only with TouchID (Even on side button).
Lite, easy to catty by one hand, robust enough.
The only disadvantage if small phones (like current SE) - poor battery life...
Apple, please think about one-palm-lite-phone-users :)

Several reasons - many people use their iPhones as their only computing and communication tools, so they want as big of a screen as possible for photos and videos. Then we have Chinese and Japanese characters that are easier to read/write on bigger screens. Add Android peer pressure in (bigger screened phones) and here you go… Today 6.1” screen is the most popular size across platforms, so the developers need to optimise everything to this.

I hardly ever use the lightening port on my mini. Can’t even recall when I did actually. But I probably have in some distant time.

I have a few wireless chargers placed strategically at my home for my mini to energize and rest in.
Just a suggestion, in case you don’t want to spend your money to repair your little friends lightening contact.

I actually try to avoid cables as much as I can even when it comes to USB-C too - have a few docks around here for my latest iPad mini too, and even lightening docks for my oldest iPad mini.

Good observation. I live in rural Mexico where everyone has a smartphone but very few have a computer or tablet.

It’s a worldwide marketplace for smartphones and one size does’t fit all, but 6.1 fits many.

Some people might try to use a phone as their only device, but as expensive as they are, they’d be better served getting a real computer. All it takes is filling out a form or doing some comparison shopping on a desktop or laptop to see how ridiculous phones are for most tasks, even if they’re nearing tablet sizes.

I don’t know about Chinese text entry, but I live in Japan and people here have been using flip phones and then smaller smartphones quite well.

I definitely won't rock the MagSafe battery pack all the time, but my what a rad combo to have as an option for certain use cases.

All discontinued products: mini, leather, MagSafe battery pack.

Steve: are you getting it yet?

My sense is that people who use phones as their only computers are doing so because they can only afford one device, and they need a phone for mobile communications, so that's the device they get.

I get that. But how and where? Are these the people who drive everywhere and don’t have to carry them? But then why aren’t they just using tablets or laptops?
I carry my phone in a bag, either a waist pouch or a shoulder bag. I've never felt comfortable putting an iPhone in my clothes pockets, even when they were mini size. In the winter, my winter coat has roomy pockets where I can fit the phone, so I don't need a bag.

As for tablets or laptops, even the largest phones are considerable smaller, so it's much easier to carry and use a phone on the go. I can use a phone standing up, which is much harder to do with a tablet, and impossible with a laptop.

I can only comment about Mexico where inexpensive Android phones are common, as is buying data at an OXXO convenience store. Oh—and keeping a phone number is not a priority since WhatsApp is easily transferable and is the way Mexicans text and call. Phones are often swapped within families, so few use their phone’s number.

Inexpensive Androld phones work great for social media and WhatsApp!

There aren’t that many online forms that a Mexican has to complete, and papelerías near government offices usually have someone to complete online forms and schedule an appointment on a computer for a fee. Works out pretty well given the literacy level.

Corporate websites in Mexico are a complete disappointment hence the rise of the SHEIN app for shopping. Often a web purchase is finalized through WhatsApp because 40% of Mexicans are unbanked. I’ve even been pushed to WhatsApp when buying a mattress in a box!

The unbanked may have cable TV (can you say Premier League?), but they don’t have high speed Internet, and use LTE for everything. (What is this 5G of which you speak? My iPhone often switches to 3G.) Some ask their employers for access to their WiFi network, but most don’t. (We give our housekeepers the password to our Starlink system.)

Things only get less sophisticated between Mexico and Panama.

So, after months and years, I finally understand the 6.1 smartphone when it’s the only device one has.

The world is bigger than your neigborhood.

100% agree with you.
WHY cannot Apple understand.
I don't need "regular". SE is too sluggish, round, overheats and feels cheaply built (and I regularly use it, unfortunately), I hate plus, pro, pro max - even if someone gave it to me for free I WOULD NOT use that, no way, it is too large, heavy like a brick (and I do workouts!) and it is a pain to shoot photos with it. Mini size (same as 5, 5s, SE gen 1) is ideal for photography and casual lifestyle for people who have no social network addition and just make calls, take photos and browse Safari.

What is even the point of a bigger screen lol. I have MacBook, iPad, multiple TVs, iMac. There is no point for me to have large screen in phone.

Recently I found my old e72 in the drawer. It still works, battery holds 5 minutes but phone still works. What a pleasure to hold this thing in hand, so light! I believe it is lighter than Apple Watch actually

I’m thinking of switching to the 13 mini again soon. Maybe when the iOS 16 is out, don’t want to beta OS the phone that’s my 15 pros job
