Never going to happen. Apple will never. Got to protect the sagging laptop sales.

Just like Apple is protecting sagging iPod and iPad sales by not releasing the iPhone and iPhone Plus models.

Apple will not "protect" any of their existing markets if they feel it can be served by another of their products. Whether they are correct in their reasoning is another matter, but cannibalization has never been something Apple avoids.

LOL!

OK what ever you say but Apple did not pour millions, maybe billions in the new laptops so that the next iPad Pro can do the same functions. That would not be wise business and there is one thing that Apple does well and that is business. This is why you work for someone.

Sorry I failed to see you vast collection of Apple hardware at first glance.

IT SOUNDS LIKE WE NEED MORE FRIENDSHIP IN HERE!!!!

I guess we don't know what Apple will do in the future and we only know that for the last 9 years, they've kept iOS and OSX at arms length of one another.

As much as I like OS X or MacOS.. I like it in comparison to Windows. I don't think I want MacOS on my tablet. One's designed for touch one's designed for mouse and keyboard.

I don't know if Apple is nimble enough to do it but it's going to take a complete re-think of how we interact with technology to merge the two together. As they are now, it doesn't work. Even Apple has admitted it.

We don't need them merged at all. Apple is fully capable of giving iOS all the features it needs to replace macOS; they just won't. There's no reason to make macOS touch friendly when Apple can just add a few features to an OS already designed for touch input.

For you there might not be much more OSX can provide you than iOS already does

however different users' milage may vary. I know personally that I would love running OSX just so I could use things like Finder, Xcode, NodeJs, Emacs and the list goes on.

I feel like you stopped reading my comment after the first sentence.

the surface 4 has more hardware. I had a Surface Pro 3 and SP 4, hated both of them. They had fans that made a lot of noise, the systems got hot (even when running just a trial version of Artrage and would crash), it was a real pain. If that's what you want, you'll need more than a chip that can handle it, I'm sure the Ipad Pro would need a hardware redesign, which I think would make it less desirable in form and function. I could be wrong, not totally knowledged on the hardware, just know what the Options were on the Surface Pros I tried. I know they have the M processor which doesn't use a fan, but also know that the models with that don't have the processing power to handle big software, like the I5 and I7 processors could. I had the I3 SP3 and the I5 SP4 and the upgrade to the SP4 and the higher processor, didn't really make any difference in the problems I had. Such as loud fan noise, excessive heating up after minimal use (to the point I couldn't hold the tablet in my hands, too hot and uncomfortable), and crashing of certain art programs. Not to mention reading all the small drop down menus that came with some of the Art Programs, just wasn't User friendly on the small 13" SP display. I wasn't about to pay the price for the I7 Processor on the gamble that it may handle those problems better.

I think everyone that keeps saying that they want to see what OS X on an Ipad Pro would look or feel like, should go buy a Surface Pro 4 and try it, just to see how you like it and you can always return to the Microsoft Store before the return period is over. I really wanted to like it, but I left windows 7 as being the last time Windows was any good and the latter of their OS upgrades, including Windows 10, left a lot to be desired. Now I have a Mac and am happy, but I downgraded from Sierra, back to El Capitan, due to some Problems. I since am leary of upgrading my Mac now too. Definitely better than my windows experience though. Who knows, If you like the Surface Pros, it may be just what you're looking for instead of a Hybrid Ipad Pro. The stylus was decent, but I had severe lag with sound in programs as another problem. I didn't need a Hybrid, I was just looking for a Tablet, not a computer and tablet together. With Astropad, i can use for some of the Mac OS X Art Programs if I choose. All the rest I have my Mac. Just like typing quicker and easier on the Mac with the keyboard.

I have used SP 1,3 and 4 without any of the issues you have encountered. I use it as an art
tablet with sketchbook pro and notes device with OneNote. I never really use these devices
with the keyboard, except to expedite software installation, etc. I find the sp4 pen generally
comparable to the ipad pencil. The pencil is fine, but massively overhyped. MS clearly lags
in power optimization and battery life. I have never heard the fan on my Surfaces (i5) or had
heat issues. I am not doubting your accounts, just saying it might not be typical

I would have believed you if it didn't happen with both the SP3 and SP4 I tried. I did like the Pen on it and I didn't notice that much lag or any to be honest. Both did the fan and heating up though. when I researched and watched youtube reviews of artists trying the Ipad pro, some of them even mentioned how Wacom cintiqs heated up, and I did read some reviews that Laptops did that, and the SP's are sort of like Laptops. The Ipad Pro they said never heated up. Now I have a plastic backing on mine (rather than spend on the Apple version), but I've never felt the Ipad Pro heat up like those did. Now it could have been bad units, but It was enough to turn me off of them, from the two different versions and Processors. Wasn't going for the most expensive.

As I said, didn't really need the Windows on it, just a tablet for art and drawing. Having the Windows with it was just a Plus, but didn't really need it. I'm not saying it's a bad product, because the whole reason I tried the SPs was from all the great reviews on them, especially the SP 3. Just wasn't my experience with them.

Oh and I tried using a program that was recommended to me from the manager at the Microsoft Store, to play my Draw Something game on my Windows SP 4 and she told me to try Bluestacks on it. It's an app that let me play some of my Android Games on the SP 4. That made my SP 4 heat up within literally 5-10 minutes would heat up to uncomfortable temp. and had so much lag with it with the sound when playing the game on it. And as I said, just the trial version of ArtRage would crash all the time losing my work. That was aggravating. It just was my experience with them and that turned me off to them. It was actually just A little more than what I paid for my Ipad Pro 128gb or actually a couple hundred more, but did not leave a good taste in my mouth. The Microsoft store was great with exchanging the SP3 for an Upgraded Processor SP4, so no problems with them. Just the devices themselves. I see a lot of very good reviews from people on forums about the SPs, so I know a lot of people like them. More than what I needed though. Samsung gave up on the Note Tablets and they made a Hybrid, which I had no interest in trying after the SPs.

One thing I feel Apple should consider adding to iOS (more for iPad than iPhone): allowing fast user login with Touch ID.

See it's a feature being added to the new MacBook Pro w/Touch Bar.

Seeing as some people share iPad (friends/family) would you like to see such a feature?

The new rMB doesn't have a fan. Apple could potentially make a Core M tablet without any fans.

Yes - Ive been saying ths for a while now. I do NOT like how Windows and others are trying to make all-in-one devices. Its just not rhe right way to do things, IMO. Tablets are tablets and have different use cases. Same for laptops. Sure, they "blur" into each others use-cases sometimes but Id much prefer each excel at their own task versus trying to please both sides. Or something like that. ;)

Channan, I know that about the Core M, but I was told with the problems I was having with my Surface Pros, that I needed the I7 to handle some of the software I was running. I was also told this by other artists who used the Surface pros. Core M is like the bottom of the bunch, so may not be good enough for more intense software that needs more resources. Just going on what I was told. People are saying that the Ipad can handle the Mac OS X as it is, because of the A10 Chip alone. Maybe, but I think it would need more than that to be worth the effort of converting it to also use OS X.

I'm sure there are families, businesses, schools, etc. that would like to see that. There is a bit of additional overhead required, storage space-wise, for systems with multiple users - multiple photo libraries, for example, could eat a lot of space. Since apps on MacOS are shared among users (under most circumstances), while iOS app usage is licensed to the user, not the machine, apps could also be a bit more complicated to manage under iOS ("I switched to my user, and all the apps disappeared!"). Family Sharing is a workaround, but not ideal - There's no provision for multiple users when it comes to sandboxed app data, so the OS would need some adjusting.

Not to say it can't happen (it's a UNIX variant, after all), but Apple's design philosophy from the beginning is that iOS devices are intended to be personal computers, far less likely to be shared than desktop PCs.
