I managed to experience the Series 7 watches in person today and would like to share my thoughts, or rather, concerns after doing so!

Context: Apple Watch user since Series 0, always going for the larger size of the two as I progress from series to series. Current daily driver is a Series 6 Nike Cellular, Space Grey, 44mm.

When I first saw the Series 7 today, the increased screen size jumped at me more than I expected. The difference was really obvious when I wore it side by side:

My immediate take on it is that.. it is too big! It just looks a little disproportionately big. Here's a shot of just the S7 (45mm) on my wrist.

The smaller S7 was there too, so I put it on and it immediately felt right.

The simple solution seems to be... to just get the smaller one! But... I have quite a collection of bands for the larger size already.

I walked away thinking... maybe I should just keep the S6 though that does not seem like a long-term solution, if this trend continues. The S6 size actually seems to be just right for me...

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who may think that the larger size is now too big?

i’m concerned too… man here with small 162mm wrists, wear a size 4 in the solo loop for reference. i like my 44mm S6 and don’t think it is “too big” but it seems right on the edge you know? the trend in watches is bigger, bigger, bigger with even rolex updating many of their classics to have larger faces. i don’t think anyone will think that 45mm looks too big on you in person, but YOU need to be happy. the photos create an illusion… we all take pictures close up and it makes the watch look much larger. you want to take a picture from a bit of a distance, almost like you arm dangling by your side from chest height. that gives a better view of how the watch actually looks in real life.

that said the 41mm is now in terms of screen size nearly the same size as the screen on the old 44mm so suddenly it becomes an option for those like us on the border.

i get my 45mm today and i think i’ll get used to it. unless i immediately know its absurd i plan on not moving smaller.

This is the same concern I have. I'd have no problem going with the smaller size if I needed to, but I have a ton of bands I don't want to have to get rid of, and a lot of them don't have 41mm equivalents.

If it comes down to it, I'm just going to go ahead and look like a freak with a giant 45mm watch if it means I can keep all my bands.

the actual case is 1mm larger, so I'm not sure what difference that really makes, but, I have not seen the S7 in person but I am really tempted to upgrade for the larger display ... YMMV

Some people like a large watch but sometimes it will not be proportional to the size of their wrist and it looks very big. I like the size bump but I have a fairly large wrist so it would be nice to have the larger screen. I'd say keep your S6 or get the smaller S7. Hopefully Apple doesn't offer a Max version in the future with a 50mm case size! Nice to have a larger screen for obvious reasons but it still needs to look natural on the wrist..

This. I have small wrists and I don't care how it looks on me. As long as it's comfortable/usable I'm going to want the biggest version of a tiny screen I can get.
Do you wear clothes and shoes that don't fit you as well? Tech can only go so far before you look like a goofball walking around with an iPhone sized watch hanging off your tiny wrist. Gotta keep it a little classy.

the bands are different between watch sizes? I never paid attention to that.. but then again I'd never order a band from apple.

I see the difference. But no desire to upgrade to one for it. Seems like a waste of money if you have a working S4 or better.

The bands are specific to the case size... the 38mm had one size, the 40 had another. As the watch case sizes grew, Apple kept the bands backwards compatible ... so bands for the 38mm watch fit the 40mm watches; bands for the 40mm watch fit the 42mm bands. That continues to the current iteration of 41mm/45mm case sizes.

And it doesn't matter where you buy the band (Apple or third party bands/source), they have to be the correct size to fit the watch case.

In the OP's situation, going from the larger watch (40/42/45mm) to the smaller (38/40/41mm), the bands that he has would not be compatible with the smaller watch.

So in looking at these pictures it looks like you have a charger or something behind the new watches. I think that’s making them sit way forward on your wrist and making them look much bigger, especially compared to your old watch. The new 45mm watch is 1mm taller, but exactly the same width as the old 44mm watches. The size difference shouldn’t be that noticeable.

My first impression: Synchronising my new watch right now and the OP is totally right: The new display is a monster! The 6 looks like a toy from years ago. Feels like a watch 6 compared to a watch 3. What a difference!
Regarding the color: I´m coming from a red 6 and now starlight is real different. It looks for me more like a soft gold than silver. Will be hard to get used to. But I will keep it. The red 6 is sold already and there is no way back.
Old band fits without problems.

I haven't had a chance to see the new S7 watch in person yet, but I have the same concern. I am a woman with a very small wrist and my S6 watch is already big for my wrist. I like the idea of the bigger screen but if it looks ridiculous on my wrist I may stay with the S6 this year.

you haven't seen the since of my wrists. i'm sitting here thinking the increase to 45mm just isn't enough. give me a 50mm. not only are my wrists thick but i also really like large screens. i don't care if i have a whole bloody ipad on my wrist. the bigger the better.

I remember reading somewhere that it's possible to slide the bigger size band into a smaller size watch, but the ends stick out. I don't know how noticeable the effect is, or if it affects comfort / wearability, but maybe it's worth a try?

I've had the Series 2 and 4. I remember thinking how much bigger the 4 was/looked compared to the 2, but it didn't bother me too much. With my faltering eyesight, having a slightly larger screen was nice. I don't think I'd want huge watch (physically), but a larger screen is never a bad thing IMO. Like others, I have a few bands and I'd rather not have to invest in new ones especially since they don't always make the same colors. I'm sticking with my 4 for now (I know y'all care) and will wait for the next big advancement (blood glucose or BP) before getting another one. The 4 does everything I need it to and then some.
