I remember hanging around here a lot more at launch of the OLED Pro, debating whether it’s worth spending £1000 on an iPad.

I did indeed felt a little guilty at spending so much, but man, what a purchase it’s turned out to be.

I’ve found myself not bothering with the tiny iPhone screen on evenings and weekends. My iPad Pro is used instead.

It’s glorious. The display is so good for video, and I’ve got way more value out of my YouTube Premium subscription, thanks to the OLED Pro.

The lightness is a game-changer too.

So that’s it, I use it every single day. Why did I worry so much about the price point!

In fact, I’m now thinking that when a new model comes out, I might ALSO get the large size (I have the 11”) becuase there’s times where myself and the missus watch a show in the kitchen or in bed, and for those uses
I got my iPad for similar reasons. I was using my iPhone 14 Pro (with a Clicks keyboard case) as a mini-tablet of sorts. It worked for me, but decided I really wanted to reduce my iPhone screen time. If not for my mental health's sake, then for my eye's sake. The iPad's larger screen helps with that. My iPhone mostly stays in my bag while I’m out, and in a different room at home. The iPad became my go-to device, basically replacing most of my iPhone usage, and my MacBook's; so my iPad gets a lot of use personally and professionally. I even downgraded my phone to a 13 mini just so I have an easier device to carry around with me because of the iPad.

I have previous experience with the larger iPad Pro. While I didn’t hate it, I think the 11" fits in my life a lot better especially as I regularly use it as a tablet too for reading books and news.

I have a love hate with my m1 iPad Pro. It’s great for content but I find it hard infuriating when trying to use excel or office apps.

However one thing I don’t think it gets enough credit for is it robustness! The screen is way tougher against scratches versus a laptop screen. Mine is still mint versus laptop screen isn’t
Don’t use apps - use the web browser version< it’s awesome

Only thing I’d change is to silver, because the space grey gets too hot outside in the sun. Also, thinking about 13” these last two weeks because I’ve been using it as a TV in for kitchen more and more. 11” is brilliant for reading and browsing though.

Tempted to get a 13” when the new ones come, in addition to this 11”! Just needs better speakers.
Do it! It’s awesome having both sizes - you end up using them for different purposes

Is it a good idea to buy the small iPhone Pro and the 11" iPad Pro to compliment it? I have the iPhone Pro Max right now, but I dislike the weight of it. I like the larger screen though.

I wish I could use the M4, within a few short minutes the screen started giving me a migraine. Recently I was watching a video comparing the M4 with something else and it even bothered me then.

I currently use 4 of my 5 iPads every day LOL

M1 iPP 12.9" games etc at night (sometimes draw on it - it was the main reason I bought it and used it a lot more than the past few years)
3rd Gen iPP 12/9" watch shows on it at night, while I am playing games on the other one. LOL
6th Gen iPad mini - read at night (watch / listen to videos to help go to sleep), church etc
M2 iPad Air 11" (newest for me) got it for the Pencil Pro and drawing. I use a folio case, so pop it out when I am drawing. So lightweight and easy to use.
I also have 5th Gen mini that I use occasionally (or share with others).

I have had the newest iPP's every few years. It seems weird to not have upgraded in so long. But I had some health issues in the past few years, so did not have the desire / energy to be creative with it. I am working on getting more creative (but had 2 have a cracked tooth pulled a few weeks ago).

I am hoping they fix the screen issues on this years iPP's for some of us. It would be so nice to upgrade. I do get at least 1 TB ones with my pros for the extra ram etc.....

The reason I came on, is I saw a fantastic deal on the M2 12.9" iPP today....

I have a huge problem with iPadOS's reliability. Half the time when using the Command+Space to search it crashes closing all of my apps. Especially if using an external display and stage manager. Randomly files app will stop working where I cant select files, move them, rename, etc until I restart. Similarly the mail app will randomly break where I cant attach anything (probably related to files being broken randomly). I am very disappointed I bought this latest M4 iPad to replace my macbook pro and was a few days away from selling it for a substantial loss and get a MBA instead. However the rumors swayed me enough to give apple one final shot at making a good ipadOS.

The Pencil randomly stops working only for certain drawing tools (which means I know its a software issue since changing it to the pen or something instead will magically work). Don't get me started about the random weirdness of Microsoft's apps on iPadOS that work PERFECTLY FINE on macOS.

With it being such a limited OS given its hardware I would at least expect everything to work PERFECTLY.

Does the matte display help? Did a doctor ever diagnosis you with anything? What about night shift or adjusting the colors/refresh rate?

I tried everything - multiple times in the day I had problems. I tried the next morning before returning - with fresh eyes and nothing help.

Thats crazy, sorry to hear that. The fact that even looking at a video of the ipad screen messes with you is even crazier.

That's really odd. I use my M4 13" a lot and don't run into similar issues.

Have you ever factory reset? My iPad is easily one of my most reliable devices. Use it for hours a day as my main work devices

I am extremely tempted to. My daily average per screentime is around 10hr so maybe I am a heavier than most users. Another thing is the "Link Keyboard and Mouse" feature on macOS/iPadOS (not sure where its breaking) disconnects like every 5-10 minutes. I am going to try the system update tonight otherwise if it persists I will do a factory reset. Because it definitely should not be behaving like this I just assumed iOS 18 was really buggy on ipads

18 has been really solid on my 13" & Mini 6.

I average 10-14 hours but haven’t had those issues either.
Office is a dud, the webversion is sometimes a bit better, but Microsoft keeps it dumb. And not for the sake of the hardware, that is capable enough.
There are plenty of good, bug free apps, I use Goodnotes a lot, Nebo, and a lot of newspapers.

On topic:
And reading trough email, newspapers, magazines, research papers: my m4 13” nano is brilliant! The nano works wonders with harsh lighting overhead, outside, but also writing on it is certainly a bit better when compared to the regular screen. Paperlike is a bit better, but wears down quickly and the reflection and refraction of light is way worse then the nano.
The nano comes really close to reading on nice smooth paper: the letters are sharp but not as unrealistically sharp as on a m4 regular display.
So yeah, it cost a lot, really a lot. Most people buy 3 laptops for that money. But they don’t stare to that screen for hours at a time, every day of the week.

Yes 100%. I actually think it’s healthier too.

Easier to read on the iPad and you’re not carrying around a cellular phone 24/7.

I’m certainly not saying cellular is dangerous, haha, but weirdly I just like to leave it in the other room and have a ‘clean’ iPad on evenings. By that I also mean, no social media or WhatsApp. It’s liberating. Healthier.

First thing when I wake up, I grab my iPad. 1) way better for my eyes, I’ve found, 2) I avoid socials and emails which I find are easier to ‘access’ on my phone.

I’m thinking about doing the same in the next years: I upgraded at the end of 2024 from a 12.9 2018 to 11 M4 and I’m thinking about that the next step will be to move form 14 PM to a regular pro.

Seems like a really good routine!

All a matter of preference, so why not?

I use a Mini to compliment my Pro Max, others may feel that the two are too similar in screen size despite the true difference in square area. To each their own right?

Totally agree — the OLED iPad Pro really justifies its price over time. The display is stunning, and it’s amazing how it replaces other devices for media consumption. I had similar guilt at first, but like you, I use it daily and now it feels like money well spent. The 13" for shared viewing sounds like a great idea too!

I love my iPad Pro 11” OLED, I also use it a lot more then my iPhone, for me getting the Magic Keyboard with it has been an absolute game changer! It is so easy to type on, I love having the little laptop like machine.

It is BY FAR my favourite Apple device.

I am the same, I have the 14 Pro Max, and whilst my eyes really like the bigger screen, I hate its weight, plus my hands ‘can’ get aches typing on it. So I am under if that is caused by the size of the phone or its weight. I do have an iPhone XR so perhaps need to use it to see if I get the same issues? If I could I would absolutely just get a standard iPhone 16 or 17 etc.
