So let me get this straight.

$10 more a month for 2x-3x speed
$5 more a month for same text that was FREE
No dock included anymore that was FREE
$36 activation fee when you get the phone?

All of this so I can have bragging rights that I have the newest toy. Ohh and let's not forget that the next iPhone maybe not be sold to you at a discount because the $199-$299 may only be a once every two year deal.

I think I will pass.....unless they bring corporate discounts back or add some better features other than just 3G and GPS.:(

the lesser of two evils

I have decided that AT+T iPhone plan is the lesser of two evils. I'm ditching digital cable and all those crap channels I never watch, and putting the money saved towards an iPhone with AT + T plan.

As some people have already mentioned they are just moving the iphone onto their regular smartphone plans. They are not charging extra for it and I don't see why it still isn't competitive? I obviously prefer the $20 I pay now but that's life and I will definitely make the switch. If they charged some other amount above the current plan and different then other phones then I would be annoyed.

Also remember that AT&T is heavily subsidizing the price of the phone now (that is why it is cheaper) and in return they are now free to treat it like a regular phone for service charges. There was even a news report that their earnings are going to take a hit for the next two years in the hopes of long term gains.

Seems to me we got a good deal for a year and now we are just falling in line with all the other phones.

Also, this gizmodo post shows what appears to be a legit at&t memo (though you never know), looks like some discounts may apply?

is it true that the old data plan is gone? like if I bought v1 could i get the old plan or would i have to use the new plan?? would i maybe still get the $200 subsidy on the old iphones? you think they would want to get rid of them...

IIRC, the $20/mi 2G plan will remain available for the 2G iPhones until further notice. (I don't recall the source, I found it while Googling around.) The $20/mo plan CANNOT be used with the new 3G iPhones, it seems.

As I said if they do offer discounts again then I am in because that would bring me 10% savings a month and bring the price down to a more reasonable level. I really hope this is true.
