Although it is rarely the case, every customer expects the hardware she/he purchases to be the equivalent to the money they worked for. Anyone who has an iPhone now already knows the trouble of just getting one. What was so wrong with this instance (if this happened as explained by the OP) is that a employee of Apple accused a customer who already invested in their product of lying over an issue already widely held in consideration. The employee no longer represented Apple at that point, but became an individual, and an instigator of conflict. This sort of conduct isn’t passable in any business.

Instead of attempting to start a fight, file a complaint with Apple; log a complaint with the BBB on their website. Go to another Apple store and attempt to resolve the case without anger.

It’s easy to become infuriated with the bad conduct of any employee working for a major company. My family has had to deal with Hughes satellite for four years, mostly through calls transferred to India. Just last month they were attempting tack on a 2-year contract for replacing a modem that simply stopped functioning. We bought the modem outright in the beginning and they wanted another $125 plus the broken modem returned. Their tune changed when a complaint was filed. Rule of thumb, a large business will try ANYTHING they think they can get away with.

Dude, a fist fight isn't going to resolve anything or make your situation easier. I would have walked away and made an appointment with a different "genius" or just go to a different store if that was possible.

TOTALLY not cool.

The OP needs some help, especially because he is seemingly proud of his actions. If, by chance, a sane-minded, normally-funcationing adult were to find himself in this kind of situation (police called, etc.), he would be too embarassed to boast about it on a public forum.

So long story short I was refused replacement for my non-able to get 3G speed phone. I almost harmed this "Genius" who questioned my honesty and had to be held back and escorted by security. This Apple store is in a mall so it was loud, words were exchanged, it was nearly physical. Police information was taken both ways. I am cooling off for now before I escalate this any further.

Geniuses are sheep who do what the Mothership tells them. Punch Jobs, not the Genius.

OP - Not too sure whether you posted this to get sympathy!

I bet the people who were shopping in the store at the time thought you was a right @ss.

What a way to behave!

Am hoping it's you who gets in trouble over this and not the Apple guy.

What a tool.

Sounds like someone that was never put in their place by their friends or parents and now thinks they can treat people who don't give in to their every whim like crap.

Seriously. It's a phone. How on earth do you get through life? What do you do when something important happens that you can't handle?

Return it and move on.

Just a note, this is a tactic used by scumbag car dealers to eliminate problematic (aka, costly) customers.

All they need to do is get them to scream or yell, say the word lawyer, or threaten the salesmen.

And they are suddenly speaking to lawyers or cops about the problems with the car.

A dealer here used to use it to great effect, a simple "please leave" inserted at the right time would mean a trespass or assault charge filing, along with an instant restraining order the next day. And suddenly the problem the customer complained about was solved.

Of course, but thats expected from you someone who been here since 2002.

as for others as much as I want I can't elaborate much more at the moment, but will say employee is gone.

You were in the wrong, not he. I know for a fact that Apple logs negative behavior and attributes it to your serial number, so your best bet is just to return the phone.
If you got this guy fired that's really wrong of you. If I hear a story of an Apple employee killed I will be sure to report this thread.

did you ever stop and think that polite and respectful conduct might make it more probable for you to get your way? puting someone on the defensive is going to make them hold their ground and be unwilling to work with you, it's not rocket science, if you disagree, share it with them, it could very well be a lack of communication or training, just turn around and walk away and come back when someone else is working or go to a different store, all you did was make an ass of yourself and piss some people off, see what happens when you go there again and try and do it, i bet security will be there waiting to remove you no matter how reasonable your quest may be this time..

DEEP BREATH. :)

I'd say be happy it didn't get physical..I'd assume it's better to be without 3G for a few more days than being called Susan in jail.

Because you totally know the whole story

If, for example, the Apple employee responded to the OPs actions with similar violence and threat, he better be fired.

I dont agree with the way the OP handled himself, of the 100 times I've been to an apple store 99 of them have been great experiences. I have to ask I've read a few responses, people say oh be nice be respectful which is a given but if things dont go the way you think they should you guys seriously get in your car and drive to another store? No way in hell I would ever do that! Im not trying to start a flame war or anything like that it just blows me away that someone would go that far to avoid a small confrontation.

If, for example, the Apple employee responded to the OPs actions with similar violence and threat, he better be fired.

But you'd think the OP would mention that as it would back up his story that the employee was an awful employee. OP seems to want to make his side look good, so I fail to see why he wouldn't have mentioned that (even if it was to exagerate when the employee just tried to defend himself to claim the employee was being aggressive back).

What we also don't know is what the employee did to "question this guy's honesty" or if it was even warranted. I notice OP makes sure not to go into details here.

What we do know is that the employee said something to upset the guy and that the guy responded violently enough that security had to hold him back. Now, I'm willing to bet that some one reacting like that may be unreasonable about what he's reacting about since it seems he has a temper that he can't control well ;).

ON top of that, if the employee got fired and I'm reading hte situation right, not only is the OP an ass, so is the employee's manager (unless this isn't the first time the employee has done something like this and they have been having trouble with him antagonizing customers. But if this was first "offense" and employee didn't attack physically right back, he should not have been fired as you'll never be able to please all customers so there should be a little leeway given cause sometimes your customer is just an a**. But if this is a consistant thing with the employee, chances are it is the employee).

Even if everything the op said is true and unbiased, someone questioning your honesty does not warrant a fight. That's like something you would see on the Jersey Shore show.

In all honesty you should be pissed at your mother for not raising you correctly. I bet you were allowed to throw temper tantrums in public as well. You were probably a joy to be around in restaurants and airplanes. Ever hear of manners?

x2! I've taught/assisted with krav maga, muay thai, bjj, etc. over the past few years and uhm...you remind me of the superagressive guys that come into class decked out head to toe in tapout, cagefighter gear. please tell me you were wearing an affliction tee when you visietd the apple store :D

Remember, every time you punch a low level apple customer service rep in the face, an angel gets its wings!

It would be pretty interesting to have a day where people people started going into apple stores and punching geniuses. Simple assault is a pretty minor slap on the wrist, less than a good traffic violation in most cities, and the publicity of having a few hundred "Geniuses" punched in the face on one day would be amazing.

I had a customer threaten me once at work because he wasn't getting his own way, I called the cops on him. Way to settle the problem, get yourself arrested!
