I was was refused iPhone replacement, me and Genius get into near scuffle!!

I have no idea how big you are, if you are in shape or not, you might even be in a wheel chair and have only one arm....that being said, you could have taken him easily.

You: My phone no got the 3Gs super fast zoom. Fix it or I am taking you out!

Genius: I see sir. I am not sure what the 3Gs super fast zoom is.

You: Are you calling me a liar! Give me a new *#!^=+# phone or I am going to jump up on that bar and kick your *##

There you go. I filled in the most likely scenario for the part you skipped over.

You were in the wrong, not he. I know for a fact that Apple logs negative behavior and attributes it to your serial number, so your best bet is just to return the phone.

Wait, so it goes on your permanent record ...? Holy crow, you just made the list, buddy!

In all honesty you should be pissed at your mother for not raising you correctly. I bet you were allowed to throw temper tantrums in public as well. You were probably a joy to be around in restaurants and airplanes. Ever hear of manners?

his mother probably gave in to the tantrums. you're supposed to let kids scream, ignore them for a few minutes and when they figure out they aren't getting their way they become quiet again and do what they are told.

it's an amazing jeckyll and hyde transformation within seconds

I am guessing you left out the trespassing charges, and possibly the civil lawsuit.

Pics of restraining order or it didn't happen.

It would be really sweet if he were banned permanently from buying iPhones in the future.

ON top of that, if the employee got fired and I'm reading hte situation right, not only is the OP an ass, so is the employee's manager (unless this isn't the first time the employee has done something like this and they have been having trouble with him antagonizing customers. But if this was first "offense" and employee didn't attack physically right back, he should not have been fired as you'll never be able to please all customers so there should be a little leeway given cause sometimes your customer is just an a**. But if this is a consistant thing with the employee, chances are it is the employee).

In the retail setting there are certain actions that warrant immediate firing, as it is important to maintain the Apple Brand name for quality and excellence. As we do not know the whole story it isn't possible for us to fairly say if the employee deserved to be fired or not.

However to say that the manager is an ass or the employee shouldn't be fired for a first offense without even knowing what happened shows a lack of insight into the importance of customer satisfaction and brand imagery. If the employee said or did anything that reflects negatively on Apple, he deserves to be fired as while he is on the job he is a representative of Apple and must conduct himself accordingly. It is very possible to maintain professional conduct even with angry/insane customers. That is part of the job the employee signed up for.

I am all for being nice to people who work retail (and people in general). I have worked in customer service and can't stand jerks who try to bully something free or whatever out of you.

BUT, I never would've called a customer dishonest unless it were an absolute fact and my manager confirmed I could say that as opposed to saying "We are unable to help you at this store, please call 1-800-APPLE" or some other polite BS.

If some douche bag at an Apple store called me a liar, he damn well better be able to back it up. Some people think they can say whatever they want and not have any reprecussions.

Even if everything the op said is true and unbiased, someone questioning your honesty does not warrant a fight. That's like something you would see on the Jersey Shore show.

Of course. The OP is completely in the wrong for the actions he conducted. I just pointed out that you can't say for a fact whether or not the employee was in the wrong or not.

If for example, the employee was courteous and nice, and attempted to politely redirect the customer to his supervisor when the customer started getting angry, and then the customer just pounced on him, then the employee was only maintaining protocol and was doing everything correctly.

However, if the employee shouted back, or verbally or physically attacked the customer in anyway, he should be fired as that very negatively reflects upon Apple.

Wait, so it goes on your permanent record ...? Holy crow, you just made the list, buddy!

I don't know how permanent it is, but here is how I know it. I went to get my iPhone 3GS replaced for cracks, while my father went with my sister in the mall. I needed to wait for him to sign the contract, so I stood at the Genius Bar while we waited. One genius (who was gay, it comes into the story later) was talking to another one about how he logged this negative behavior of a customer down. He continued saying that this customer had called him a f*g and that his kind shouldn't be in public( I wasn't aware that we still lived in puritan times). I asked him and he said that if a Genius saw that on record that they would be less apt to give him a replacement (not sure the ethic in that either).

So long story short I was refused replacement for my non-able to get 3G speed phone. I almost harmed this "Genius" who questioned my honesty and had to be held back and escorted by security. This Apple store is in a mall so it was loud, words were exchanged, it was nearly physical. Police information was taken both ways. I am cooling off for now before I escalate this any further.

Congratulations on the trailer-park antics... real classy.

You can escalate here: http://www.jerryspringertv.com/be_a_guest.php

It worked when crate-training our dog...but then again Wiemeraners pretty smart.

Every so often a thread is started on MacRumors that just makes me shake my head.

This is one of those threads.

OP have you returned your phone for a refund, yet, like a normal human being?

I'm confused. I thought he was trying to return/exchange his phone, and the Genius refused to take it back. (Assuming the story is true, which is a big assumption.)

he's one of the whiny people that think he should get max advertised speeds in every square foot of the planet

A little off topic but i have a question. My Iphone 4 has been having several problems. It overheats alot, people tell me im echoing in calls, signal sucks, random weird sound mixups and a dead pixel. I noticed the other day that the bottom corner has a little dent in the black rubber that surrounds the screen glass. Will i have a problem exchanging it at an apple store because of this? WIll they say i damaged it or dropped it an refuse an exchange>?

He claims an exchange (not return) was refused and than he got superman tough on the genius and the cops came. He apparently has not tried to return it. I suspect the trespass warning will mean he has to return it by mail.

Did you drop it? If not you'll be fine. Just don't be like the OP. firm yet polite, that's the golden formula.

Kick his ass Seabass!!

This remind me of the only bad Apple experience I received was when I wanted to replace my headphones. So the guy at the door said that I will have to set up an appointment with a Genius person to handle that. And then I said: But the other times that I've done this in the past it was always easy and a genius appointment wasn't mandatory. He then said that I have to schedule an appointment. So I said ok. After an hour and half of waiting its my turn and the girl at the genius asks me what's wrong and I told her that the phone was ok but i needed new headphones. She then said that for headphones u didnt need to have an appointment. Then I said: that's what I thought but the guy at the door insisted that I should. I even asked him that usually this doesnt require an appointment but he wouldnt let me.

I was calm during the whole thing, the girl started to apologize and I totally said that it wasn't her voice. She asked me which guy it was, and I said it's fine don't worry about it.

So because of this story does that mean they logged this story into my serial number? like i said i was calm during the whole thing, and wasn't disrespectful but i did mention why i had the appointment.

Rule Number 1 of customer service: a level head, polite nature, and genuine attitude will always win through in the end.

From personal experience, I remember when my wife was made redundant last year and we had a right sticky spell financially. I had to phone our mortgage company, who are renowned for being real hard noses, for a bit of leeway and the initial exchange was going absolutely nowhere until I eventually managed to get the advisor laughing (the topic and details aren't worth posting).

I remained jovial despite my situation and the advisor eventually came round and was extremely sympathetic and helpful.

Now, I was dealing with the roof over our heads ... if anything that's more of a situation where tempers could flare, but over a mobile phone?

It wouldn't be me, but then not everyone has the same temperament.

I wonder if the "iPhone death grip" aka touching their lower left corner with your palm works on Apple employees? LOL.
