Well then you should very well know you're suppose to ask for trades in the Marketplace, not in other threads in non-Marketplace forums.

or post in the forum that would actually contains what he claims to be looking for...

I wish you luck in any decision you make. I have an Air and a MBP and both after owning have lost some luster. I do prefer the Air for 90% of my computing needs.

I'm sure if you place an ad in the marketplace for a trade someone may very well take you up on it. There are others who post just the opposite of yours and it could be a win-win-win for the two of you and Apple.

Agreed. There are always those wanting to go both ways on this one.

Check out my posts, and previous threads, and the fact I've been a member for 3 years, then ask again if I'm a troll.

thats nice and all, but like i said, you came in here not asking for advice, but bashing the MBP over the air...so thats kinda trollish sorry...

besides, i thought you weren't going to read this thread anymore...

I want to know how many of you have actually worked on a 13" shortscreen mac.

Seriously, not flaming, but I thought a macbook was going to be fine for me, until I actually spent some time using my mothers machine. Good god, with all of the toolbars that many apps put across the top and botom of the screen, I was left with about 5" of usable vertical screen. And I even have it set up with the doc on the side.

All I'm saying is that if any of you are considering the air or macbook go out and make sure you use it.

A 13" shortscreen is nowhere near as usable as an old style 14" 4:3 screen.

I would wait and see what the new macbooks have to offer. You make want that over the air, supposedly it will be thinner than both the current macbook and macbook pro. And probably lighter, and better specd that the air.

OK, bit of a strange update.

My MacBook Pro was getting really, really hot, and the screen always seemed a bit 'dull'. So I called Apple, and they said its probably a defective screen.

I'd never heard of such a thing.

Anyway, no sooner had I put down the phone, STRIPES started to appear all over the thing - which the rep had mentioned.

Anyway, basically, they insisted on sending me a new one.

I've just opened the new one up now, and my GOD.. I AM IN LOVE WITH THE MACBOOK PRO!

Its amazing!

I know I sound like a total freak.. but honestly, the built quality on this one is so much better. The screen is INSANELY vibrant compared to the other one, so maybe I've got a different panel?

On the same colour profile, its much better - 10 fold.

Anyway, I'm glad I never got the Air. Pro is the way forward!

Maybe I just got a bad one to begin with...

Speed

Although the pro is nothing to look at its what's inside that counts, you would be so disappointed on how slow and unreliable the air really is.

I failed to see how the built quality on this one is superior to your last one unless the last one is totally garbage which I doubt it is.

CASE SOLVED.

your 1st MBP is APOL (!)
your replacement is APPLE, therefore you got the real deal! the aluminum one:D

seriously, i find it amusing how you "missed" all the bells and whistles of the MBP with your 1st one, then came the replacement and suddenly you appreciated the machine?

if sexiness is your main concern, go with the AIR, no matter what everyone says about it.
based on what your normal tasks are, the AIR will definitely exceed your expectations.

and don't be surprised with the " strong " reactions from the other members..
if you posted this thread to the other group " macbook AIR" they would have been friendlier and more welcoming.
it's like this.. Hey YALE peeps, i think i should have enroled to Harvard instead.. no offense guys..they're just sexier!:D

I personally much prefer the macbook pro for the following reasons:

-Larger screen, 15.4" is the perfect compromise between portability and ease of use. 13" screens are way too cramped for use as a primary machine. External displays can be hooked up to the air, but you are limited on size due to the integrated graphics, whereas with the macbook pro you can hook up a 30" display.

-USB Ports. I need two. I won't be unreasonable and demand 3 plus, but seriously, between usb flash drives and external mice etc I could never live with just one port. Add in the fact that you can't hook into ethernet without using the USB on the macbook air and its a disaster.

The air is great for its light weight design and lack of optical drive. I would have no problem using an external drive on my pro to trim down the size since I don't need the drive when "on the move". Overall I couldn't see living with the air as a primary machine, or even a secondary machine for that matter (i also own a mac pro).

My son's g/f has a new MBP, I've got the Air. I've played with both and it reaffirmed my choice to buy the Air. I'm a road warrior. It meets my needs.

It sounds like the original poster had an apple salesman over the phone talking him into the MBP. That sucks. I think it's hard to buy expensive toys over the phone with never having had an opportunity to play with them first.

Finally, the haters on this forum need to get a grip. The world's a pretty cool place overall. Try and figure out your place in it and find some inner peace.

theyre different beast meant for different uses, looks like youve got something you didnt want

BlackBook

I think you should just go with the MacBook. Ridiculously more power than the Air. I'm a power user, even with graphics, and mine has never let me down. You can max one out for the price of the Air!

I personally just don't see the price/benefit ratio of the Air. So, it's super thin. Great. It also is the least powerful laptop available from Apple. Unless you are a traveller, the Air has NO justification to its price. Can anyone argue with that?

That being said, if you're looking for power, don't overlook the MacBook. it's better than folks give it credit. I'm a power user (adv. post-production work) and I've run FCS2 on a MacBook with no complaints. Sure, it's not as fast as my iMac or my work G5; but it's fully capable. And for a significant price cut of the MBP, too.

I just wish the MacBook could have the multi-touch trackpad. It looks like fun :( Oh well....

This is probably less than 100 of todays dollars in raw materials. And most modern men wouldn't even consider her attractive. Yet the number of people that would give 100's of millions to own her is huge.

Justified? Yeah, just because you don't see the value doesn't mean there isn't value there.

Hey, I agree with you that it's silly to use looks as a defining feature of a computer. But it's not made for you and me. Just accept that and move on.

Actually the number of people that would give 100s of millions to own her is quite small... there aren't many people with over $100m to begin with, and out of those, only a handful would be interested :)

I'm not talking about people that actually have the money. I'm talking about the people that would spend it if they had it.

I need more powahh than whats in the Air. It's like comparing a hybrid car to a 300 with Hemi.....

(if that makes any sense, lol)

Exactly. I have a MPB only because a couple days a week I work at home, I'm a software developer - for that reason extra screen real estate and power are valued over portability.

All the rest of the time, I pretty much do whatever most consumers do with their machines, email/web browsing/music playing/etc. If I never used the machine for work I would have an Air.

Yeah...if you're a power user go for the Pro...if you are in it for the "novelty" of having one of the thinnest and stylish laptops out there get the Air.

Personally I put my laptops through a lot so the MBP would be my choice!

well i just traded my MBP 2,16ghz core 2 duo for a MBA 1,8ghz and i must I say that I couldn't be happier :D

the MBA is not slow, it's actually quite snappy (once it's up and running), i'm not such a power user, all I mainly do is web surfing, email, iphoto, adium, ical, skype, youtube, itunes and sometime I use aperture, photoshop, imovie, idvd and isquint.
and for work I run Vmware for windows xp vision.

all of that works fine with the MBA haven't had any problems so far, and I'll repeat myself it's not slow :)

but if you're planning on using pro apps regularly like final cut, logic studio or playing games then I strongly recommend buying a MBP or even better go for an Imac ;)
