You beat me to it! I just love it when you get to correct the "smart guy" when he's trying to show how smart he is by correcting someone else!

I was talking about his spelling not his punctuation. It doesnt take a "smart guy" to correct his mis spellings. A third grader knows how to spell repair, as well as knows when to say yack and yacked in the proper context.

I learned contractions in the third grade. 'It's' is a contraction of it + is.

In addition, it's 'misspellings' not 'mis spellings', one word not two. You really should quit while you're ahead. ;-)

Pulling rank isn't nice, especially when the newbie's right. Sorry, just had to throw my 2c in.:p

Hey! Who do you think you are that you can try to browbeat some other member of this forum just because you've been here longer? I think you owe somebody an apology.

Ok i'll say this again for those of you who were to thick to hear it the first time. I was correcting his spelling, not his punctuation. So i was right. If i was correcting his spelling and punctuation then you would be right in correcting my punctuation as i was the corrector. The point is he threw up on his computer and i dont like reading a post from someone who spells repair as repare and "i yack on my ibook" means that he yacks on it on a regular basis. I "yacked" on my ibook means he did it one time. So i guess if we dont correct this then it means he yacks on his ibook quite frequently, so hey thats nice. Can we see pictures? :D

Yaayy! (btw, it should be "too thick") I will say, when I first read the thread title I expected a video of him yacking. Due to the missing -ed. A little disappointed, really.

If i was correcting his spelling and punctuation then you would be right in correcting my punctuation as i was the corrector.
Nope. Any spelling/grammar/punctuation/language corrections you type in a forum must be completely error-free. Otherwise you are wide open for counter-attacks without remorse. Period. Doesn't matter if your corrections were, uh....correct, your mistakes are ready for bashing!

This is the internet forum law.

So you won't mind if we point out the missing 'o' on the 'too thick' in your post.

Look mate, you're fighting a losing battle so admitting gracefully that you made a mistake might be the best option. People who only post in a thread in order to correct spelling or punctuation are always seen as grammar Nazis. If you're going to post purely to criticise someone's grasp of the written English, you have to be whiter than white yourself in your response or you'll be seen as a bit of a hypocrite.

And while we're on the subject, why do forums have a
?

It's hardly appropriate. Shouldn't we have a "Quote" button and then a
[quotation]
[/quotation]
?

I'm not doing this to correct anyone ;) I'm just trying to contribute to the swirling chaos that this thread is becoming :D
Ditto. That's why I left 3 possible errors in that post. Just for fun! (all of them are more questionable, though)

Don't get your quote question, though.

Let's get back to the original topic, shall we?

I, for one, would like some pictures of this event. :D

But seriously, did you actually have to explain to Apple that you threw up on your computer?

Well, from my understanding, "to quote" is a verb, but a "quote" is not correct usage. To say "I have memorized a quote by/from/of Churchill" isn't appropriate. It should be "I have memorized a quotation by/from/of Churchill."

So I'm thinking that the "Quote" box is arguably incorrect. You can say you're using it in a couple different ways....

You said, and I quote, "Du habt Geschlectverkehr mit deine Mutter." Well, the same to you, sir!

-or-

Here is a quotation made by you last Wednesday: "Du habt Geschlectverkehr mit deine Mutter." Well, the same to you, sir!

I kinda picture it as being the latter, and so to me it should be "quotation" and not "quote."

But who knows? :p

I see. Makes some sense. But it can easily be debated. Counter: clicking on the button (or typing the code) is an act of quoting, so "quote" is correct.

"Quote" can be a verb or a noun...either "quote" or "quotation" is appropriate. Just you use Command-Control-D over the word in this thread to see...

Ok to be fair, the guy probably doesnt speak english as his first language. I may have screwed up the punctuation in my post (knowingly because i dont care about punctuation on this forum), but know the difference between i yacked on my ibook and i yack on my ibook. That was really my gripe. Living in San Diego where people speaking English as their first language is a rare find, im just tired of hearing people not add the ed or the s on the end of their words. For example, when you go to a mexican food place here they say "what you like to eat?" same at a chinese or japenese food stand. Or when they say i yack on my ibook, you say oh you do? How often do you do that? Nooooooo i yack on my ibook jus 1 tyme! Oh then you mean you yacked! on your ibook, you bobbling idiot! It gets annoying after a while when you hear things like that every day and your rent is 3500 dollars a month for a 1500 square foot house. Ok im done, goodbye.
