I’m seriously considering this bad boy. Final stage of the decision process, what can you guys tell me about it?

I am. I got the base i9 model. For my needs and coming off 2013 MBP, I one happy guy. Watched plenty of videos and reviews on youtube prior to pulling the trigger, and what they say is pretty spot on. Go for it!

I like it a lot. The keyboard alone is worth the update but the screen is gorgeous and the ability to add RAM over 16GB is useful for me as I generally have a couple of VMs running in addition to the core OS. Everything is very snappy. Never type on the keyboard of a new 16" MBP and expect to ever go back to the old keyboard.

I am literally just finally happy with it after having it for almost 4 months.

Had horrific stability issues until 10.15.4.

Best laptop I’ve ever owned. Had 2013, 2016, 2018 13” MBP, and needed more than 16 GB ram (blockchain and ml programming work). Have i9, 32gb, 2 tb retail version. Attached to V1 LG 5k monitor and use it open (second screen and Touch ID). Don’t have any issues with noise, and fans generally not on except for some large local DB syncing each morning. So glad I upgraded from the 13”. No beach balls anymore!

i9 base model as well, no issues. keyboard has been great i think the next revision will be oled or high refresh rate display but the display has been awesome. got my 12 inch ipad pro set up as side car it's very nice.

they will probably do the same thing to the 13 inch macbook pro, since they have a 13 inch macbook air. i love the screen size otherwise i would have waited for the 14inch.

Yes. It's the first Macbook Pro Apple has made in literally years that was worth me giving them money.
Keyboard - back to normal MBP kb, no more crap butterfly.
Has an ESC key.
Has 32GB(mine) and 64GB options.
2TB(mine) and higher options for SSD
It's a beast overall - 2.4GHz i9, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, AMD 5500 8GB.

There is a seeming issue in the Radeon using too much power just connecting an external (ok, a large-ish one, 38UC99) display - seems should be < 18W. Will see how that pans out, but no major issues.

I'm sure no matter Apple's hype and rework on thermals - it's still a laptop, and still 'Apple thin,' but it's also not a gaming laptop 'luggable,' while the fans are quieter than previous models I've had.

It's a nice machine.

I’m not happy.
I’m Ecstatic!

Haven’t been this pleased with a laptop coming from 2002 15” Dell Inspiron XPS, 2006 MacBook white polycarbonate?, 2008 15” MBP Unibody, 2015 15” MBP...

The only, and I stress ONLY, downside is no aftermarket upgrades like the ram or ssd. I’m all in for TB3 ports only.

I’m upgrading from a 2014 MBP13 myself. Have been waiting a long time for a reliable keyboard, and also think this new 16 screen will save me an external monitor. I’ve already ordered it, thank you guys!

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts when you finally get it. I'm coming from a 13" Mid-2014 MBP as well and have been considering either upping the RAM to 32GB and the faster i9...

Let me know your thoughts when you get it.

I'm coming from the "legendary" 2015 15" and I love this thing. It's faster, yes, but I wasn't complaining about the speed of the 2015. Everything else is a much more cohesive package. It's quieter under full load, the graphics card is a revelation compared to the old R9 M370X, the screen is better. The speakers and mic are a revelation. Things I miss are the SD card slot and upgradable storage.

I’m very happy with mine. Silver base model.

if I had to do it again I’d do a BTO with the i7, 32gb of ram, 1tb ssd and a 5500m. But I was in somewhat of a hurry so the base was more appealing.

I’d also probably go space grey if I did buy again. My iPad Pro is space grey, as is my iPhone, and even though they are never really visibly side by side, it bothers me. Went silver for the nostalgia.

Absolutely love mine. Upgraded from 2015. Got a refurbished 2.3 i9, 64gb, 8gb 5500m. Night and day difference in every way compared to my 2015.

The external monitor overheating/fans blasting problem is really really annoying. I would have waited for a fix from Apple or an updated 16" if I knew it was a problem. And Apple still hasn't released a fix after all this time...

Check every day or two for the refurbs. The selection gets refreshed somewhat consistently. They don't seem to list them "one by one", but when they get a batch/batches of similar models returned and refurbished.

Thanks! I’d been checking daily and none were being added, as soon as I posted this there’s a bunch of 16” models in stock. Got the base i9 model.

I was very happy with mine from when I got in Jan up until about a week ago. Now I get frequent random kernel panics, and it seems that this may be a common (hardware) problem. I've no idea whether Apple has fixed this yet, so you may be OK with a more recently built machine, but I would recommend waiting for a couple of months to be sure it gets resolved.
