Hardware failure rate shouldn't be that radically different.
So what they're referring to appears to be more like Windows vs macOS?
Certainly one wins over the other by a great margin at least in terms of maintenance. Unix ftw.

There are various quality levels in hardware. Like how a $300 PC is not the same as a $2000 corporate PC.

My fully upgradeable Hackintosh would beg to differ.

Only if you consider your own time as worth less than the loaded cost of hiring an IBM employee. The lost opportunity costs (e.g. billable hours) for many professional consultants from any time used playing with upgradable hardware might play for several new Macs.

90,000 Macs supported by FIVE administrators. Wow. 1300 new Macs provisioned each week by those five people? less than 10 minutes to provision each machine if they do nothing but provision new devices. That's some major assembly line economy of scale there.

I work at a medium sized public university and we have one Mac admin. When I switched to Mac, he was in my office less than ten minutes. It took him a few minutes to pull everything out of the box and hook it up and another few minutes to connect it to the network and start flashing the university's image file to it.
[doublepost=1477010894][/doublepost]Never underestimate the idiocy of the average employee and its effect on tech support.

I work at a medium sized public university and the idiot-proof nature of Macs really does decrease tech support calls.

Example: our last Lenovo all-in-ones had a touch bar on the front that allowed you to, among other things, turn off the screen. There'd be at least one tech call a week where someone accidentally turned off the screen and called to say their machine was broken. We had to send someone to their office to investigate only to find out they shut it off.

This used to be true, but not so much anymore. Now a days, I get more calls from my friends with macs than PCs.

PLEASE READ: THIS IS MY OPINION. KEEP YOUR TROLLING AND FLAMING TO YOURSELF. MY OPINION DOES NOT REFLECT THAT OF TIM COOK, THE APPLE CULT, THE DIE HARD APPLE FANS, ANDROID FANS, OR TAYLOR SWIFT.

It's normal to have more call today than before, because they are more Mac than before ;-)

Wow. You know trolls are gonna be trolls despite your disclaimer, right?

We use a mix of macs and windows at

If Apple hasn't released an updated version of the 2013 Mac Pro (Which is non-upgradeable), then yeah. You're going to save money because you have no options

I have a Mac Pro. It's the best Mac Pro. No ones gotta better Mac Pro then me. My friends call me and say hey you have a great Mac Pro. Believe me.

Honestly, that part of the article is seriously questionable. I don't care how good Macs are - there is no way they can effectively have that kind of ratio. hardware failures alone across 90,000 macs would overwhelm those 5 admins.

Oh how the times have changed:

Mods don't taze me bro, i think this is highly on topic.

I absolutely agree with their findings as they match my own. Mac users at the office do not constantly whine that their computers are not working as opposed to the PCs in the office. I deployed Macs at home for the same reason. You can get a good 5-6 years from a Mac with little drama from the user.

To get good performance from a PC, you need to be a hobbyist who loves messing with it. That is what, 1% of the user base?

You think the TAX will be 500 dollars. You are of course referring to the new USB cable! I remember when the iMac forced us all to move to USB. What a waste of time that was.

Forced us to stop using floppy disks. Oh the horror at the time.

Remember when Apple made us stop using a physical keyboard on a phone? That was the worst.

Or the time they got rid of ethernet ports? WE CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT THEM!

They put webcams IN the laptops so we couldn't strap them to the tops!!!

Put speakers IN the computers so we didn't have to buy external ones!!!!

Remember the time they made wireless BUILT-IN to the laptop as if people would want that?!

OH THE HUMANITY!!!! WHY DO THEY DO THESE THINGS TO US WHEN WE NEVER WANTED THEM!!!!

I've had the same mac for 9 year. I've gone through a PC every 3 years and they are slow as molasses when I do...

He sounded more genuine sorry :p

It's incredible. I'm glad the Mac is finally getting recognition and a seriously important customer for enterprise. This can only lead to good things.

That's what I've been hoping for, for a long time! At work, we all share stories of how we miss our Macs back home :)

That's the power of Enterprise grade AppleCare+, they'll have a new Mac out to you the next night probably.

No. Its because they are well built. My wife's 2010 MBP is still kicking ass while I've gone through 3 Dells in the same span. and my wife does not baby her MBP.
I'm genuinely curious as to why you've been buying Dells in the first place? ;)

I agree, they are extremely well built.
