Why not buy a intel mac don't stay in the dark ages. With all those computers you have you could probably grab a macbook (Kind of)

Powermac worth $210
eMac worth at "least" $220 for a collector
And all those iBook clamshells would be worth another $200

So $630 and some of your own cash you could probably buy a end of life macbook or something for a deal

Can't sell the Power Mac,already sold the eMac,and only have my one broken ibook left which I'm on at my friends right now using an external keyboard mouse since my tractpad and keyboard on it died.I'm getting a PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz.Can't afford anything newer.

While I, like you, love PowerPC Macs, my first being a 12" PowerBook about a year ago, I'm telling you that if you can find a cheapo first or second revision MacBook on eBay, and can handle the slight increase in cost over your projected PowerBook, you'd be committing a sin not to go for the former.

Intel Macs are far superior, even if they're not as charming as PPC. My 2 cents.

I understand you, even though I have a Mac Mini that smokes all my powermacs, I could not bear to sell my powermacs, especially my 733Mhz Digital Audio version (even though I got it for free from my father's boss :p)

As for Clamshells, once they drop down to around $50 from $100, i may consider getting one.

Wireless N on Clamshell

Hi I have one. It's a Graphite 466Mhz model. I've upgraded it to 576MB ram 120GB hard drive and am using a Belkin F5D 8053 wireless N USB adapter for fairly quick internet. Runs Tiger no issues. Plays MPEGs MP3s and DVD's . It's not bad for a 10 year old laptop. I like the look too. I use a hub and plug in flash drives, usb mice etc. Other than Youtube, it does most things I want to do. And I really don't waste too much time on Youtube anyhow. If I really feel the need I use another computer. So count me in as a Clamshell fan.
( I now have a 300Mhz Blueberry Clammy as well)

Hey all,
I was wondering if I was the only person who uses a clamshell at all. I use a 366/576mb/10gigHDD to surf, play itunes with my Soundsticks, play DVd's on the go, check Mail, and use Word. Upgrading it with 576 megs of ram from 320 really helps. Feel free to share your Clamshell stories and opinions, upgrade tips, modding projects and your Clammie names (mine is Lil' Clammie and the iMac G5 is Stevie;))Long live the Clamshell and all who use one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Kids Games Play Well on iBook Clamshell?

Hi,
I was just wondering what games will play well on an old Clamshell 300Mhz.
I wish to load a bunch of games for my 8 year old nephew on to one and give it to him as a gift. I would like to try to get a number of playable games on it. Can anyone give me some suggestions please?
Thanks for your help.

I love my clamshell iBook enough to replace the hard drive with two CompactFlash cards, a process which cost me more than the computer is worth just to buy the parts. But now I have a solid state drive which is totally silent with no vibration. I love having a fanless quiet computer.

Here is a YouTube video of me showing the performance of loading a few web pages. The battery was replaced two years ago, and still has enough juice to last most of the day on one charge.

Mine is a 366MHz so it's not the fastest one, but I prefer the matte exterior plastic finish and the rubberized trim on the older models. It's a great around-the-house computer.

My only complaint is that Tunes 9 won't run on OS X Panther, so I can't sync my iPod Touch with it.

My iBook Clamshell.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago, after doing a lot of research on these computers. And i really like my iBook Clamshell. It boots into 10.4 "Tiger" without a problem. I don't use it as my main computer, nor secondary for that matter. I primarily use it to run my favorite non-windows programs, for example my favorite IRC client: Colloquy (This... program.... is... awesome!). And i also like to take it with me, mainly to show it to people and hear their comments (also to use it ofcourse). Haven't heard a single negative comment about it. (Except for my dad tough, he thinks it's ugly, i obviously disagree.) Some people actually have mistaken it for a new Apple laptop. Weird how that only appears to happen with Apple laptops eh? ;)

I found this website very useful: ibookguy.com This guy knows a lot about these computers.

Anyway, here are the specs:
iBook Clamshell Graphite Special Edition 466Mhz
320MB Ram
10GB Original Hard drive (Not brave enough to open it up that far :p )
AirPort Card (Yay!)
No Battery
DVD Player (Special Edition iBooks have those.)

It's in pretty bad condition. There are cracks near the Apple logo under the display and near the F12 key. And the Apple logo on top of the lid is missing. (Some people think it's supposed to be like that.) I bought this particular machine because it was cheap and.. come on, it was the special edition I just had to buy it! :p

I also made a simple Boot-Up and shutdown video. (Starting of web-browser included :p)

Anyway, thanks for reading this post.

I once played with a lady's clamshell. It was a tangerine. :D

That was around the time I got my PowerBook G3 Pismo. I felt I needed the extra power for Final Cut Pro. It's a shame I didn't make more movies, but that was before YouTube. No audience, no motivation. But I digress. I really want a blueberry for my collection.

I just seen a blueberry out in public, crazy. And he had a working 1st gen iPod shuffle, keeping it classy. It's been awhile since I've seen either of those in public.

My Graphite SE...

Hello,
i'd like to introduce my 466 SE :) Bought it for equivalent of $50. It had broken hinges and no backlight. I fixed damages and upgraded it a little (512 RAM and 32GB SSD). With 10.4.11 it's now pretty fast (as for Clamshell ofc). Boot time is now 41 s.
I made a little video of this 466 boot time compared to my PB 17".
Now i'm fishing for LG LCD cable to make XGA mod ;)

I have a Clamshell Graphite 466 SE running 10.3 and I love it. I use it at the library all the time because of the great battery life. I haven't really felt the need of upgrading to 10.4 yet but I may at some point for software compatibility reason. The only thing I wish ran on 10.3 is Coconutbattery :)

I used to have a tangerine clamshell iBook G3.. then then the cd drive broke on it... needless to say I tossed the whole computer out as I needed storage space.... I wish I didn't. It was beautiful.

I have a 466mhz Graphite clamshell with the full 576mb ram and Airport. Cost me $105 AUD. Excellent bootup speed, I timed it last night; 45 seconds from push of power button to completely usable in OS X

This week I am getting a new high cap battery and in a couple of weeks a 16gb solid state drive for it.

I just got my Graphite 466mhz (running 10.4.11) in the other day. I know it's "outdated" but I'm going to find something productive for this old computer. Here's what I've done so far:

1) Disabled "shadows" with the application 'ShadowKiller'
2) Disabled Spotlight and the Dashboard with "Disable Tiger Features"
3) Changed my color scheme to "thousands of colors." (it's not even noticable on most tasks)
4) Removed extra languages/unneeded architecture with "Monolingual"
5) Installed "Camino" (and turned on the "flash blocker" built in the browser)
6) Changed the minimize effect to "Scaled Effect" instead of "Genie Effect"
7) Installed "ShapeShifter" to get the Leopard menu-bar/icon scheme.
8) Installed MS Office X (the first version for OSX so it runs well on a G3)
9) Installed apps: Transmission (v1.54), Adium (v1.3.10), and VLC (v0.8.6i)
10) Installed a brand new battery.

It runs a little slow at times, but for a 10 year old laptop, it's still fully usable for everyday internet browsing. I'd like to see anyone try and do what this iBook can do on a Pentium III laptop :D.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I use the "zoom out" feature on Camino so I can see a full web-page without scrolling around.
