Actually it is noticably bigger. 1'75" high instead of 1" and the XServe doesn't have an LCD screen in that space. Also if you look at the other dimensions, the XServer is well over twice the size of a Powerbook. Also, the power required to run the fans in the XServe would drain a laptop battery quickly.

Yes, but we're talking 1.5GHz G4s, not 700MHz G4s. Now if you really need all that power, you probably want a Dual 2.0GHz G5 anyway, not a laptop.

well eventually they will. And yes if I could afford a dual G5 I would have one now. But I can not. Just Like I can not afford my Boobjob. If you can drop 5000 cdn, 4 gigs of ram plus a new airportextreme on a computer any ole time then send me one too.... The affordable laptop is necessary for when I travel. And hey while I am placing my order I could use a new guitar, American standard Telecaster. 1350.00 Cdn

then I can retire the eMac 700 to the kids. They need another machine for their Diablo 2 LOD fixation.

Strange ... iBook 14", 1.2GHz PowerPC G4, 512K L2 cache @ 1GHz

Is this just a typo? It seems strange to have a cache frequency that is not 1:1 with the cpu-frequency.

Australia Highlights

Powerbooks is good old Aussie dollars

12" combo $400 drop to $2599
12" super $400 drop to $2999
15" combo $400 drop to $3299
15" super $800 drop to $3999
17" $1000! drop to $4499 ($300 cheaper than the old 15" super price.)

Apple Australia look like they have gotten it right! :D

Price?!?!

OMG, the 15" Superdrive in Australia is $800 (AUD) cheaper than before. My prayers have been answered.

They are definitely working out some bugs still. I just tried to custom config a 15" (extra vram and hd speed) and the price went up by like $800 bucks! I thought that odd so I tried to do it again and got the yellow sticky.

It looks like Apple have finally realised that the US Dollar exchange rate hasn't been too favourable with their non-US prices.

Hooray, no need to go to the USA now. 'tis a silly place. ;-)

So how long till G5 PBs? If it happens around the fall then I could wait... but Christmas and after is a stretch.

Ok, technical analysis.

Excellent graphics card update :D +$76.38 for 128MB!

Ok speed hike :)

Superdrive up :p

NO improvement to screen resolution :( (For the 17" I can cope...just)

EXCELLENT PRICING (Compared to the last bunch of years) :D

17" comes with a single 512 RAM stick :p Cheap upgrade

HD to 5200 rpm for $76.40 :)

OMG I am seriously thinking about the 17", and I thought it would always be out of my grasp

Ha, we're never happy. I can't wait until the PowerBook G5's so we can all moan about the speeds. I'm disappointed that the 12" PB doesn't have FireWire 800 or a backlit keyboard on it. But, aside from that it's a nice update. Better graphics then I expected.

Well done, a new record, Powerbooks have only been updated about 16 minutes and already the G5 powerbook speculation has started.

You sir, are a legend

It sucks that an additional gig chip of ram is ridiculously priced for 12". $700! I want to beef mine up but I'll have and get the standard 256 and wait for prices to go down. Is it still $400 for one from Crucial?

Can somebody please tell me if its PC 2700 Ram i need for the powerbook? It used to be PC 2100 but in the new tech specs it says 2700. I'm confused.
