The dual-core Yonah has 2 processors on the same cast..

Jobs never said the new intels had two dual cores.

Then it would be nice if everyone would stick to a definition of "core" and a definition for "processor". By Steve Jobs' and your definition we now have dual-processor processors. It makes it confusing if you ask me. Now down the road when Apple puts two dual-core processors in a Mac how are they going to explain it to make sense?

Perhaps reading up on the subject might help you.

And my first post was sorta confusing..

There's two cores on one processor.

I figure by that time, they'll get the kinks worked out from this run and will probably get a slight speed bump.

Are you suggesting that the first run of MacBooks will be kinky? :p

Seriously though, with a transition this large I'd expect there to be bugs to work out... I'll probably wait for gen2 too though somewhat out of necesity because I don't have and won't have 2 grand to spare any time soon.

I suggest you take a look at the quad G5's... they (already) have 2 dual core processors.

Tis would be a fully loaded redesigned alternative to the Powerbook which is BETTER than the macbook pro - in the a 17 and 19 inch size??

19" in a laptop seems a bit insane to me... 17" though useful is pushing the limit in my mind. A 19"er would be to large and heavy to be a practical "mobile" computer... it would probably weigh as much as a 17" Dell laptop! :D

Hey! I just thought of something! A 19" "laptop" could become a tablet-like tabletop computer!... you keep it laying flat on a table with the screen facing up which would double as a stylus writing surface... y'know for a graphics "workstation"... This could be cool!

all these posts are due to my somewhat random-order reading of this thread and I appologize to any who are annoyed by my numerous posts...

Hmmm, I sure would like to see apple making on of these:

Does anyone know what will happen to the 12" MacBookPro (finally got used to that name. They could have done morse... MightyBook or something)? Many sources claimed the 12" model was no longer on the pro laptop roadmap. That would be pretty sad. I want a 12" to fit in my bag (among other stuff). But well, let's see what they do with the iBook. I suppose they will call it MacBook, but they might as well keep iBook as name (since white glossy consumer apple Products start with "i" and some letters behind it: iPod, iMac, iBook, iNim Cam (reverse plz ^^).

Let's all wait for apple's anniversary. Maybe Steve will show something we just can't imagine (and ppl here can imagine pretty much) :D

This might be off topic but..
People are complaining about dual layer etc..

I'm installing i"Life'06 and noticed the install DVD is 6.25 gigs..

I was under the impression DVD's were 4.5gigs..

I guess they are comlaining about the new ones not to BURN dual layer. And since you are insalling iLife 06, I assume you don't have the new iMac (where its already installed)

Apple needs to start moving away from the whole iName crap. It's becoming outdated and silly. Software, fine, iNameitwhatever......not hardware. iBooks look like and sound like toys. Macbook sounds more professional and more "up to date". MacBook Pro is a great name. It sells. Powerbook, no, it's too dated and too "tube socks with sandles".

They seem to be on the right track with the names, but in terms of "showing their balls"......the released machines aren't doing it. They look the same, they looked rushed.

Associating an iPod with an iBook and and iMac...etc......fine. It made customers relate the product to the brand to the maker. It serves no purpose anymore.

Ditch the iName's and ditch the "Power" name stuff. Make customers think and relate the new transition with a new period in the Apple world.

iBook's do not look or sound like toys!

I own an iBook and think its the best consumer laptop in the world! The i in the name symbolises the "you" because it's a consumer item, like the iPod, its your personal pod filled with your music!

Also Apple should keep the i in the name because with the increasing amount of iPod owners, they will recognise it and associate their iPod's ease-of-use with Apple's computers! I like the Apple Macintosh name but the "i" imo sounds better, macrumors should have a poll "i" or "mac"

Anyway your a Windows user?? Yuk :p

My guess is that the MacBook (née iBook) will use the Core Duo L2300 and L2400. Those are the low-power versions of Yonah, running at 1.5 and 1.66 GHz. I believe they are supposed to be available in quantity in time for Q2 '06.

It's all very well to talk of crippling the consumer laptop by putting a single-core chip in it, but you'd better be saving a lot more than $32 on that chip to make it worthwhile. I suspect one reason for the name change to MacBook (assuming that's the name they use) and MacBook Pro is to quietly concede that there really isn't that much difference between the two product lines.

Oooh, that does look very nice. However, I ordered my iMac already... better get the black can of paint out. :p

Oh, and I wasn't complaining about rumors, that was merely a joke. Should've used a ";) ", I guess.
I often overlook the obvious too. I should have used smilies and/or [sarcasm][/sarcasm] containers. I think all here know that if they are fed up of rumours the door's that way. ;)

eBook... Sounds fine to me. An "educational notebook" for students that dont't have money. However, the name would be MacBook Express or something like that. But actually I don't want something even cheaper than the actual iBook. The display/keyboard/mouse-button just don't look/feel too good, but for the price, it's ok. Hope the intel version gets some new design (white candy bar is just not my taste. Guess it's the main reason i always preferred the powerbook even if the feature/performance difference is not that much for the 12").

MacBook Pro 15.4" widescreen
MacBook Uber 17 " widescreen

Apple should look at trumpng Sony's new ebook, and provide written books online at ITMS. To do this they really need to produce some portable screen computer/device. Such a device could also act as a wireless remote, web browsing interface, picture viewer etc

Didn't Apple do something similar with the Zinio reader?

errr... the iPod can show text pretty well. Ever read the iPod info there? :D
It even can be a picture viewer and play videos! :p

I haven't read the whole thread, pardon me if this point has been raised already. It just occured to me that we might never see a new iBook at all. Aside from the rebranding of an entry-level portable as a MacBook, what would stop Apple from releasing a 10-12" MacBook and a widescreen 13.3" MacBook, positioned beneath the 15" and 17" MacBook Pros? They could all be an aluminum enclosure, and this just seems to make more sense. If you compare the design of the 12" Powerbook to the 12" iBook and look at improvements in both lines, it is very conceivable that Apple could just make that one portable, slap a MacBook sticker on it, and that would simplify everything, instead of having a 12" MacBook Pro and a 12" MacBook, one aluminum and thin and the other white with a plastic exterior.

So is it definite that there will only be one screen size for the new iBook (MacBook)?
13.3"? I was hoping for a 14" - 15". :(

:) There are never any definites with rumours.

And it's easier for a rumour site to find out Apple's building a 13.3 inch (either finding some obscure supplier, or a beta tester)... it is far harder to find out that NO suppliers or beta testers are testing a 14".
