I just had to post this....

I of course like others have jailbreak their iPad, iPhone, etc to the new iOS 5.0.1 untether and was a bit disgruntled when ibooks broke :(. I have been searching high and low for a solution that works.

I jailbreak with redsnow 0.9.10b2 and then stumbled on:

http://iphonehelp.in/2011/12/29/how-to-fix-ibooks/

I already had iBooks installed on my iPad.

Hope this helps some.... :)

Hi all,

Has anyone tried the Kobo app with this new JB? I daren't try the JB if there is a risk of breaking ibooks, but Kobo would do for me as an alternative, as I only need support for pdf and epub files.

Tara

Also tried this method for my iphone and it does not work for me either.
I installed a clean ibooks then i get the configuration error.
I then install ibooksfix2 from cydia, respring and reboot but the app still crashes on startup.

I then reboot a couple of more times but still the same thing. When i try and uninstall ibooksfix2 buit when i try and delete ibooks it wiggles but no x for me to delete it.

I don't understand how its working for everyone and not mine. its not complicated from the instructions. :( :(

I'm getting the same problem. iBooksFix2 didn't work for me and now I can't delete iBooks either. :(

iBooks is not working for me too... No matter what i've done :/

My iPhone 4 was on 4.3.3 untethered JB, i made a clean install (A.K.A restoring) to retail iOS 5.0.1 and then jailbreak with untethered 5.0.1 redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for OS X. Yesterday i saw the redsnow b2 update and re-run jailbreak as stated (Without selection "Install Cydia"). All runs smoothly until today that i tried to open iBooks (Never do it before) and get the error.

As instructions provided, i deleted iBooks, downloaded a new copy from AppStore, downloaded and installed iBooksFix2 from Cydia (http//repo.insanelyi.com repository) with no luck. Tried all possible ways and nothing...

Now i see that a new b3 update of redsnow is out, i'll try to clean restore my iPhone again with retail 5.0.1 and then i'll apply this jailbreak redsnow b3 update to see if it resolves the iBooks problem.

Update #3: The b3 version of redsn0w fixes a problem where re-running redsn0w over an existing jailbreak would cause MobileSubstrate-based apps to stop running until MS was installed again. Now you can re-run the redsn0w jailbreak step without worrying about that (but still remember to de-select the “Install Cydia” option if it’s already installed).

BTW: For all of you who can not uninstall iBooks, try to open iFile, navigate to /Applications/ and delete iBooks.app from there. Then just respring and... voila, iBooks is gone ;).

To delete iBooks go to settings general usage find ibooks tap and again on delete app!

Deleting it from settings did not work for me.

Even when i remove it using itunes it still won't go. The only way it worked for me was to go into the App store where it shows the blue '+Install' button. Click it and while it is trying to reinstall the app on the existing app click and hold down on the icon and it should then wiggle and then the 'x' will appear and you can remove it.

This worked for me with an additional step of
7. Turn off iphone and turn back on

Thanks for the advice.
In my experience, the keys to getting iBooks and iBooksFix2 working are;

1. Delete iBooks from your device.
2. Re-spring
3. Reinstall iBooks from the App Store.
4. DO NOT START iBooks!
5. Run iBooksFix2
6. Respring.

Done.

What she said

Okay, i got it, maybe i was lucky, but i got it.

0. Delete iBooks and/or every other patch/patches on your iDevice.
1. Install a clean iBooks from the App Store and then restart your phone.
2. Install the iBooks Fix2 from the insanely repository.
3. Respring the iDevice.
4. The Springboard now should crash and go in safe mode (i don't know why, but the only time it crashed and went in safe mode it worked for me), so if it doesn't crash go in safe mode.
5. Restart the phone.
6. Now iBooks will work (at least it worked for me).

Thx! This /\ worked for me:
- updated to iBooks 1.5 - got pop up error
- bookFix2 from inanelyi - quick crash
- reboot did the trick

Ps: 5.01 untethered w redsn0w 9b10, patched with corona 1.3

Thanks for the advice.

Finally this done it for me too. I restored my iPad with retail iOS 5.0.1, jailbreak with redsnow b3, uninstalled iBooks, installed from App Store, installed iBooksFix 2 using those steps and got it working ;)

I had given up after a whole day of messing around. I didn't fancy doing another full restore. So, I had just used iFile to remove iBooks and decided to wait for a fix. However, I did notice, that even by removing iBooks using iFile, there were still remnants of it left over. E.g. 3G Unrestrictor still saw it as an app in it's app list. Albeit, with a "?". SBSettings also had it listed as a "?" in the App Folders menu. So, it seems all had not been removed properly.

Anyway, I noticed that an update had been pushed out for MobileSubstrate, so, I applied the update and thought, why not take 1 last chance. Lo and behold, downloaded iBooks and then applied the iBooksFix2 and it worked. So, maybe there was some relation to the MobileSubstrate fix. However, I'm all good and running! Glad I didn't have to restore yet again! :p

Awsome! Thanks Guys! Followed the instructions and added the insanelyi fix and rebooted and all is well with the world and iPhone!

BTW, this was after the MobleSubstrate fix for everyone's info just so if it is something that has to happen first we know.

F I N A L L Y !!! Fixed the issue.

As others have mentioned the culprit seemed to have been Mobile Substrate. If you don't wanna update your jb to Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 then just go into Cydia and allow the packages to refresh (might take a few mins as servers are being slammed)

Once this has updated you should then get a badge change for mobile Substrate to version 0.9.3995. Update this then follow the 7 steps motioned by others and this should fix iBooks

iBooks on iPad problem

Any solution for the iBooks problem in the iPad?

The one that resolve it in the iPhone is not working in the iPad.

:(

Yes it works, tested on mine, but you would have to restore it first... https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/14078898/

I will do the same for my iphone 4 because the 7 steps method is not working seems for me without restoring

Did 4 times the restore and didn't work

"1. Delete iBooks from your device.
2. Re-spring
3. Reinstall iBooks from the App Store.
4. DO NOT START iBooks!
5. Run iBooksFix2
6. Respring.
7. Turn off iphone and turn back on"

And there are some more people with the same problem. :(

Are you running the latest version of Mobile Substrate in Cydia?

iBooks fixed but Safari crashes

I'm having no issues with iFile and have iBooks fixed but Safari keeps crashing and closing each time I try to open it. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
