For the ipad follow this as mentioned above:

http://iphonehelp.in/2011/12/29/how-to-fix-ibooks/

It says iphone, I used it on my ipad 1 about 10 minutes prior to posting and it works fine.

You have to
1. add insanelyi
2. after installing, turn off your ipad and then turn it back on for this to work.

Just follow the instructions in that link. Thanks to the original poster of this!:)

There is no fix for iBooks that you wouldn't have to be insane to try.
Why do people think that adding nasty repos is OK?
People are busy at the moment. A real fix will come along soon.

Is there a problem with insanelyi repo?

I've used the ibooks fix in the past without any issues and just today as well.

If you think pirating software is OK then that repo might not cause problems. I wouldn't trust those thieves and certainly wouldn't add their repo as I like to know my phone will work.

Thanks for the advice.

Finally this done it for me too. I restored my iPad with retail iOS 5.0.1, jailbreak with redsnow b3, uninstalled iBooks, installed from App Store, installed iBooksFix 2 using those steps and got it working ;)

I did the same on my iPhone 4 and iBooks is up and running ;)

I got both my iPad and iPhone working following the 7-steps guide after restoring with iTunes and jailbreak with redsnow update 3.

Previously:

-Make a backup of your iDevice with iTunes. (If you don´t want to lose your data).
-Restore your iDevice with stock iOS 5.0.1 from iTunes.
-Re-sync all your Apps, Music, Data etc from the previous backup...if you want... And if not, you can configure as a new device. It's up to you.
-Jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.10b3 for OS X or Windows
-Install SBSettings from Cydia (To get the re-spring option).
-Add http://repo.insanelyi.com repo to Cydia.

Then, the 7-step guide:

Using this, and the "previously" section makes iBooks works ;). Tested on both iPhone 4 and iPad 1.

BTW: 7-step guide, didn't work for me without doing the stated on "previously" section :p.

insanelyi.com repo isn't showing me any packages

Edit, followed the 7 step guide above and iBooks is working again :) thanks

After hours of trying, this finally worked!

I tried all kinds of things that a Google search (and this forum) came up with. Spent hours and hours trying. Nothing worked, the same error kept coming back again and again, and in the end iBooks just crashed immediately every time I tried. But I can't live without my iBooks, so last Friday I gave up and restored to 5.0.1, without a JB. This morning I decided to give it a "clean" try, following the steps below. And - insert drum roll - it worked! I wasn't registered here on the forums yet, I was only a reader, but registered just to be able to tell I got it working on my iPhone 4 :) Next step (some time this week) will be my iPad 1. Will let you know if that one works as well.
Thanks so much to the original posters of the solutions!

I tried ibooksfix2 and it didn't work for me. The app would just crash every time I click on it. If it worked for you, can you check which version of iBooks you have?

I tried the GizmoWeb ibooks fix, and it worked on my iPad 1, however it reverted iBooks to an old version (I think 1.3) as it no longer has the night mode and full screen buttons. Does your iBooks have these functions? If it does, I might restore my ipad and give ibooksfix2 another try.

i can guarantee it works on the ipad 1

what i did was the same as the rest here

updated to stock iOS 5.0.1
jailbreak using redsnow b3 release
added repo.insanelyi.com
downloaded sbsettings
respring
download ibooks, do not open the app
respring
download ibooksfix2
respring
tadahhh, fully working ibooks with full screen and themes

Hmm guess it'll be another restore for my ipad then. Gonna give this a try.

Ok I just tried this on my iPad 1, followed these instructions to the letter, and iBooks still crashes to SpringBoard as soon as I run it. I'm out of ideas now. Guess it's back to Gizmowebs fix for me.

Update: I just restored my iPad and tried again... and it worked! Not sure what was going on the first time, but I finally have a working iBooks 1.5 on my untethered 5.0.1 iPad. Thanks everyone for all the tips :)

this worked for me :)

Glad you got it working man, haha, tested on an iPod touch 4g of my cousins and it works.. The new iBooks seems snappier and I like the themes

One odd thing I have noticed is that using the iBooksFix2 iBooks seems to run slightly slower on my i4 5.0.1 and the appstore sometimes prompts me to install iBooks. Also the settings panel has changed

Okay, i got it, maybe i was lucky, but i got it.

0. Delete iBooks and/or every other patch/patches on your iDevice.
1. Install a clean iBooks from the App Store and then restart your phone.
2. Install the iBooks Fix2 from the insanely repository.
3. Respring the iDevice.
4. The Springboard now should crash and go in safe mode (i don't know why, but the only time it crashed and went in safe mode it worked for me), so if it doesn't crash go in safe mode.
5. Restart the phone.
6. Now iBooks will work (at least it worked for me).

Awesome! iBooks now works for me as well! Thanks!

I assume that I can now safely uninstall the insanely repo? I'm not a fan of the cracked apps repos, but this was a legitimate tweak :)

Update: After this fix, I now notice a side effect that Notification Center is opening apps when I get an alert rather than just doing the banner across the top. No changes other than iBooks Fix2 and now this is occurring. Anyone else?

Little over a week since I "fixed" ibooks. Zero problems on both my ipad 1 and iphone 4.

For those having problems after installing the fix, make sure you turn off and then turn on the device.

This worked for me only when i configure it as a new device.
If i sync it from the backup it didn't work.

This may help someone with problems with the fix.
