9to5 posts what claims to be a screencapture of a version of iChat for Windows.

The site doesn't express a high amount of confidence in the picture, and so we post it for interest's sake. The rumor is not without precedent, as a previous page 2 rumor had pegged the introduction of a paid version of iChat AV to be introduced at Macworld San Francisco 2004.

I just posted about this in iChat for everyone! Its a big push to rival LIVE Anywhere I think.

iChat to rival MSN
.Mac to rival Hotmail

its a competition now between these two!

I am by no means a photoshop expert, but really.. That LQQKs shopped.

i would love this i would love to have to have ichat on my pc and windows partition for some reason aim doesnt like my camera or my ip dont know which one and everytime i wanna talk to my dad when he's on buisness trips to wait a few seconds to switch back over to mac but yeah i think this would be a nice addition and i will deffintly download it :)

As much as I think Apple may indeed release iChat for Windows, I don't think that this picture is real (though it may be a relatively accurate mock-up).

My largest concern is the relatively obvious difference in font between the menus and the title. This looks completely off.

This definitely lends a bit of credence to the iPhone pictures from a few days ago... interesting.

iChat for Windows, you mean I can finally get this AOL monopoly off of my system in it's entirety? :D I would love it, and would download it instantly upon availability.

Oooer.

Fake I reckon.

1) Fonts are crap (title bar and file menus)
2) Window edges are blurry
3) They have captured on xp not Vista - easy to do mockups on
4) Well.. Come on.... Apple would never do this, not with the competition of Yahoo and MSN.

Why would Apple never do this? They released iTunes, Safari, QuickTime and other software. Apple may be a hardware company, but it doesn't preclude their software from being cross-platform. Besides, say a 3G iPhone is released. Perhaps it will require iChat for video functionality?

I've never liked the way OS X ports looked in windows. The way the menu bar is positioned is just not OS X... I hope they never do this; I would hate to see my loser windows buddies bragging about how they love iChat on their pos OS.

Why would apple show this on a Windows XP background, with an old icon for Word?

WHat is the Business reason for this? iTunes makes sense - because of the iPod and iTMS, but what does iChat for WIndows do, except weaken the draw of OS X? I suppose you could argue it might be needed to Video chat from the 3G iPhone?

Just seems odd..

I am a very happy Adium user for my AIM/GTalk names on OSX

For Windows, I am content with AIM and Google Talk both being run open

Just never caught on with iChat and the way it is set up

Wow... Your friends are losers because they use Windows? I'm surprised you have friends at all with that kind of mindset.

Every one of those software products either helps sell things or helps develop things. iTunes sells music and iPods. Quicktime has a pro version that costs $$ and also has its own standard, which apple needs to get out there. And Safari was released for developers. iChat has none of that, especially with no more iSight. iChat runs on AOL and .mac, but .mac isn't going to be much use to a PC user unless they also have a mac.

Rival for MS ? i don't think so!

MSN is free
Hotmail is free
Windows Live apps are free incl Live gallery very similar to iPhoto

.Mac = 99 USD
iChat = ???? USD i doubt it will be free with the leopard functionality

my 2cents..... Apple should stick with mac computers and stop creating windows versions of their apps which justndont work good and do not feel right...
